The coach House was built in 1845 and has many original features. It has a cosy log burning stove in the large lounge as well as oil fired central heating throughout. The large lounge has a TV with free view and there are plenty of DVDs, books and games. There is a dining area in the lounge and the spacious kitchen is well equipped. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms with double beds and one single bedroom with single bed with pull out bed underneath. The bathroom has bath with shower over, wc, and hand basin. Outside there is a large garden to the rear with lawn and flower beds and a seating area with garden furniture. The courtyard area to the front has plenty of secure parking.

About Margaret Makepeace
My name is Margaret Makepeace and along with my daughter-in-law Trish Andrews, take bookings for our two holiday lets. The Coach House Westerdale is a tranquil cottage in spectacular scenery in Nth Yorks. While 21 Neville Street is a town house in the heart of Durham city. Should you wish to book either of our properties you can be sure of a very warm welcome.
Margaret Makepeace purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Margaret Makepeace chose Whitby
The reason for buying the Coach House was that it was in the grounds of Westerdale Hall which is a building of great interest. Also the remoteness of the village means it is a tranquil retreat with spectacular views.
What makes this Cottage unique
While staying at Westerdale many attractive villages and historic market towns are easily reached by car, such as Hutton-le-Hole with its Ryedale museum and Helmsley with its castle and wonderful walled garden. It is also just a 30 min. drive from the coastal towns of Whitby, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay. There are numerous attractions for all the family.

We had a lovely stay. The garden in particular is fantastic. Location great too - less than 30 minutes drive to Whitby. Kids has a great time.
Thank you Stewart and family for your kind review. So glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to maybe see you again sometime.
A small Victorian paradise set in a garden
Set in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, the Coach House, is tucked away in a garden just outside a tiny village of stone cottages, among verdant farm fields and heather-strewn moors. Freely-roaming herds of sheep and hiking trails abound in this area. The rental house enjoys its own private garden and terrace as well as a parking court behind traditional gates. The house, inside and out, is quaint and highly romantic - one feels as if one were in a Bronte or Hardy novel. The house is well-equipped for visitors and very clean and comfortable. The kind owner welcomed us with wine and grocery supplies and even a freshly-made Victoria Sponge cake (my husband's favorite). Fresh flowers were in abundance throughout the house, and blooms were in profusion in the well-tended gardens. The Coach House once served as the outbuilding for a Victorian hunting lodge, the larger manor house which sits next-door. Although the owners were in residence at the time of our visit, they left us completely alone and private to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, house and garden. This house and property is delightful. We loved the Moors region and especially this house and its lovely gardens. Highly recommended.
Thank-you so much for your thoughtful and considered review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Coach House. We would love to welcome you back in the future.
The Coach House is in an idyllic setting with a lovely private garden,
The house is comfortable and cosy especially if the weather necessitates lighting the log fire. We liked the homely feel and the antique furnishings. We slept well and enjoyed the views from the bedrooms. Close by to the moors and near enough to the coast to ensure easy drives to explore further afield. We walked sections of the Cleveland Way and found some great circular walks in nearby dales and still plenty more to discover on another visit.
So glad you enjoyed staying in our cottage and pleased you loved the garden. We try to create a "get away from it all" feel and hopefully we have achieved it. We would love to welcome you back soon.
Peace and tranquility
Delightful cottage and garden in beautiful peaceful location.
Charming and helpful owners. When the smoke alarm went wonky they had an electrician on site within an hour!
Thank-you for your lovely review. Glad our cottage, garden and the peace and quiet helped to make your stay relaxing.
Hope to see you again sometime.
Perfect location, lovely owner, very welcoming, comfortable and clean
We stayed 4 nights. We found the sat nav took us straight to the door and Trish made us and our two dogs feel very welcome. There was a wonderful basket of goodies for us and the dogs. The house was perfect and very comfortable. We loved the garden and exploring the area. We would highly recommend the property to others.
Thank-you Joanne for your lovely review. So glad our cottage helped to make your stay enjoyable. You were so lucky with the weather. It definitely shows the cottage and the North Yorkshire Moors at their absolute best. Hope to see you again sometime.
Beautiful cottage in a stunning location
Coach cottage was everything we wanted and more. A beautiful period cottage set in the north Yorkshire moors.
On arrival we were met by the lovely owner who showed us round and told us what we needed to know.
The cottage has many original features and a lovely garden and courtyard. Everywhere was well maintained and spotless.
The cottage country kitchen was more than well equipped with every appliance and utensil you could ever need! The owner had put fresh flowers in the kitchen, lounge and dining area and had also left us a homemade Victoria sponge (which was delicious!) and a welcome basket consisting of bread milk cheese butter chocolate wine popcorn - it was lovely. Our two little dogs were made very welcome and loved laying in front of the log burner.
During our stay we drove into Whitby which is about 19 miles away but the cottage is the perfect base for exploring the north Yorkshire coastline or moors and pretty villages in the area.
Would definitely return.
So glad you enjoyed your stay, especially as the weather was so awful.
Thank-you for an absolutely wonderful review. You can definitely come again!
