House in Braunton, North Devon, England - Peaceful Location, 10 Minutes Drive To The Beaches

Hi, I am Claire. I am a pre-school teacher and I have lived in Braunton for over twenty years. I enjoy walking the north Devon coastline and love our beautiful beaches. My interests include walking, gardening, reading and travelling – I particularly enjoy visiting London and other cities – a huge contrast to rural north Devon. Gull Cottage has been a happy family home and I hope you enjoy it too.
Claire purchased this House in 1980
Why Claire chose Braunton
I moved to Braunton from Cambridgeshire to be near my family and because I have always loved to be beside the sea. The area is so versatile, beaches, moorland and gentle countryside and just a short journey to the more rugged Cornwall. Braunton is a bustling friendly village with interesting shops, pubs and restaurants plus a medical centre, dentists and schools.
What makes this House unique
Braunton is ideally positioned close to the beaches and the market town of Barnstaple. It has a good infrastructure and easy access to coastal and country towns like Simonsbath, Lynmouth, Bideford and Westwood Ho! Gull Cottage is on the edge of the village within easy walking distance to all the facilities the village has to offer.

Beautiful spacious cottage with everything you could possibly need!
Our family of four adults, one child and a dog enjoyed 4 nights at Gull Cottage. Two lovely spacious double rooms and a single room for our son meant everyone had their own space. There was a lovely airy dining room with views of the large garden. A well equipped kitchen and a warm and cosy living room. The cottage is in a quite and private cul de sac with enough parking for four cars. We were just s few minutes away from the beautiful Saunton Sands where the boys surfed and the girls walked the besch! It’s a short walk to the village off Braunton where there are shops and restaurants! Would highly recommend!
Wonderful cottage in Braunton
Enjoyed staying in this cottage very much - very clean and tidy with everything you could want in a cottage
Beautifully presented & well equipped property. Ideal base for exploring Devon.
We were a group of 5 adults and 2 children. On arrival we were really pleased with the property - it was equipped with everything you could imagine, and fresh scones, cream, jam and wine were awaiting us!! The only minor problem we found was that the sofa bed was in the main living room ( we had expected to find it in the dining room/2nd reception room ), so you might want to allocate this bed to the 'late-night-stay-uppers' of any larger group. The garden was delighful ( unfortunately the weather wasn't, so we didn't get to make as much use of it as we normally would have). The location of gull cottage was an ideal base for us to visit the surrounding areas - and there's plenty to see/do for all age groups. Overall, a fantastic holiday. Thank you so much .
Clean and beautifully decorated. Very well equipped and great value for money.
This home made an excellent base for our week exploring north Devon. It is well placed for many of the best beaches and very well equipped. Our toddler enjoyed playing in the garden as well as making use of the great selection of toys at the property. We would love to come again and highly recommend.
Lovely place to explore north Devon
Well presented with a nice garden that was enclosed and safe for the dogs. The house was comfortable and well presented. We met Claire who was very nice, The bottle of wine and cream tea she left us was great too. The main road is very noisy if you are not used to it but dont let that put you off this lovely property. The small town (they call it a village) is only 5 minutes walk away but there are quite a few shops to browse. There is a Tesco just round the corner too. The only slight criticism on this property is the drive up to the house. If you have a large car you may find it difficult as there is not a lot of space to turn around and we scraped our car as there are two brick plinths on the border that makes the space quite tight. We ended up reversing into the drive so we could just drive out which made life a bit easier. We did the tractor ride at Morthoe which was good and lunch after in the village pub. We were disappointed with Bideford as there wasnt much there but Barnstaple was a good shopping place. Check out the small shopping outlet by Asda. Saunton beach was beautiful and allows dogs and Ilfracombe was a nice place to visit too.
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!
Gull Cottage is an excellent place to stay.
There 5 Adults and our two grandsons staying as part of family holiday.
As soon as we opened the door whatever we had seen as a photo or read as a description on the website was exactly what it said on tin!
The building was spotless clean. Lovely bedding. Towels for all us. Milk & wine in the fridge!
The rooms were spacious, airy and bright. The two boys (age 5 & 3) had the novelty of sharing a room. Not a good move when we were trying to get them settled on the first night! Two toilets, two showers and one bath. Spacious parking for cars at the end of a no through road.
Enjoy sitting out on the patio with a glass of something mulling over the day and planning the next day. Use the OS map in the drawer of the living room table.
If you must cook, then there are plenty of pots and cooking containers, good selection of utensils and plenty of crockery. And there is a dishwasher to wash it all!
There are good eating places in within a short distance of the house.
The Williams Arms has a carvery to die for!
Squires have the best fish & chips.
If you want work up appetite then take the SW Coast Path past the Royal Marines Barracks to the Braunton Inn.
Our favourite watering holes were (in no particular order) the White Lion, The George & SQ.
Saunton was our favourite beach.
Why not use the Stagecoach 21 bus? The bus stops are almost adjacent to the pelican
crossing on the main road. The service runs every 15 minutes. An adult day ticket to cover Bideford & Barnstaple cost £3.70 and to include Ilfracombe an Westward Ho was £4.70 (I think).
We are hoping to be able stay again. Family members who did not attend this holiday are equally keen to try and arrange a break in the house.
We stayed for the May half term in 2018.
