Not worth the $$ - in need of repairs

We are a group of college friends that enjoy a weekend getaway every winter. It's a chance to decompress and reconnect away from the busy go-go-go of the rest of the year. Everyone was very excited to stay at this home because the photos are amazing, but they're almost too good since they drastically oversell the property. This property was 'newly renovated' in the kitchen only and it was most likely completed at least 3 or 4 years ago. None of the bathrooms have been renovated in the past 10 years.

We started off our visit with a call to the management company (which were super polite and quick to call us back) because we found a large dead bird in the master bedroom toilet. This was disconcerting because if the house was cleaned prior to our arrival there is no way it could have been missed. So we started off wondering how clean the home really was.

The stove doesn't work (range is fine). We needed it to preheat to 350 degrees and it never reached it. We ended up cooking a lasagna for several hours at around 250 degrees.

The pool is a great amenity, but in serious need of repair. The plaster is broken off in large chunks so the sides and bottom of the pool are very rough in many places. We paid extra for the pool to be heated but it was only 80 degrees and too cold for many of our group members.

The couch in the family room has lived it's life. It's broken in many places creating uncomfortable dips. We had a large group and struggled to find a place for us all to sit together since the fireplace in the main living room doesn't work, and the sitting room off of the main space that does have a working fireplace only really seats 5 people comfortably.

This is a historic house, which is fine and usually appreciated, but the heat just doesn't work. The living spaces were freezing while the bedrooms were stifling. There are 3 thermostats and no instructions on which controls what area.

The views at this property are amazing. If you're looking for a place just to rest your head after sightseeing in the milder parts of the year this property would be great (at a lower rate). If you're looking for a staycation, this is not the property.

The management company was very easy to work with, my only complaint is that I provided all of this feedback to them right after our stay and didn't receive any response.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests. ESVR would like to share an update on the subject property and additional information about our guest services. All properties receive a departure clean and a arrival setup/clean. Both cleans are followed by an inspection by ESVR's property care manager. No property is released until it meets occupancy guidelines, ESVR also has a full guest service team and after hours response. If an issue arises ESVR strives to respond in a timely and professional manner. All properties undergo a professional photoshoot and each property has a minimum of 24 pictures and a complete floor plan on the property page to ensure an accurate depiction of the residence and furniture placement. After receiving feedback from a guest if concerns are noted an inspection is done and matters addressed if needed. The stove was serviced and is functioning properly. Informational cards on the operation of the thermostats are in place. The pool plaster is scheduled for repair. Seating capacity in the family room increased and fireplace inspected and repaired. We appreciate and welcome any and all feedback. We take all feedback seriously and use the information to improve the guest experience while vacationing with Eastern Shore Vacations Rental. Perfect for all our needs!!!

This house served all our needs and more! It was large enough for 6 families to come together for a great weekend and not feel like we were on top of each other. The house was well suited with everything we needed and then some. The kids and even some adults took advantage of the indoor pool given the cool rainy weather. We liked it so much we are ready to book again!
