About Neil Hassall

Architect and Design.

Why Neil Hassall chose San Miguel de Allende

A unique Contemporary house designed by Neil Hassall with town and country views. Located a 5 minute walk to the local market and 10 minutes to the main square and other historic attractions, local restaurants, shops and artisan market is around the corner. Enjoy the spectacular natural pool in the lush private gardens.

Natural Swimming Pool.

The pool is kept fresh, clean and healthy by use of an infinity edge that drops the water through the air, thereby oxygenating it, into a constantly moving body of water which incorporates living plants, gravel filters and sand beds.

The water is then moved up to solar panels before descending to the pool itself to repeat the process. The water stays at a natural temperature, similar to that found in nature. This system does not produce the slightly warm pool one might be accustomed to. But it also does not require the use of pool chemicals, including chlorine, to keep it clear and free of infectious bacteria.

What makes this house unique

This unique one of a kind contemporary gem offers a naturally exclusive hideaway for life in a tranquil world of your own. The location is great with only a 10 minutes walk to the main square El Jardin, cafes, restaurants and other iconic cultural sites.

Relax and Renew Your Mind and Body,

Schedule a Reflexology with Holistic Wellness Expert Lydia Wong, learn some new relaxation skills like tai chi to take home, begin yoga or meditation. The wellness studio is located around the corner. Go home completely transformed.

Elegant and modernist. Lovely views. Extremely comfortable furnishings. Lovely views from each level

  • 5 of 5

It was an awesome stay from start to finish. Niall the housemanager-builder-architect-designer-long time expat-IT expert-life coach was very kind and extremely helpful. He stocked our fridge and pantry with fruit and the makings for a hot breakfast as requested. The house is beautiful and something out of Architectural digest. It is on three levels with decks on each level and has lovely deck (it would appear that SMA has an elaborate rooftop culture). The pool is beautiful albeit unheated, which is ok given the heat. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans and utensils. The furnisnishing allow four people to be perfectly alone or perfectly together as the mood dictates. The home is located at the top of a hill on a residential street and the transition from outside to inside is breathtaking. The house itself is located a few short blocks from a huge Mexican market selling fruits, vegetables, dairy products, tortillas and fresh flowers. A New York style bodega is three blocks further for liquor and canned goods (Bonanza). Everything is very clean. El Jardin is truly about 10 minutes away. Being in a resedential neighborhood allowed us to participate in a local festival dedicated to Our Lady of sorrows: diaromas dedicated to her were set up in many homes and passers by were offered ice cream and popsicles. The liquids represent her tears. Downtown, banks an such set up elaborate displays +/- the frozen treats. The restaurants are great and the street food top notch. Back to the house, THIS HOUSE IS UNSUITABLE FOR CHILDREN NOT IN THEIR TEENS. THe stairways are narrow and there are beautiful paintings and sculptures everywhere. The pool has no railing. This is a great place to escape from your young children! Lastly, Soledad the housekeeper comes daily to clean up, it is like staying in a few thousand square foot hotel. She will make breakfast or even better, you can make an early breakfast and she will help with clean up. If asked, she can help with laundry.

Simply put, it was an awesome trip and SMA is treasure. N.B.: There is some construction at an adjacent property that should be done by September of 2018. It was in the background but did not disturb us.

We stayed for five days and were a party of two adults and two teens.

This a beautiful property.

We had a great stay and Neil is an excellent host. Unfortunately the WiFi router for the family room died so no internet other than the bedrooms. The solar heated pool wasn’t as warm as we hoped it would be. Otherwise everything was terrific.

This was even more than we had imagined!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent the month of February in this magical home! Everything was exactly what we we hoped it would be and more. The house is superbly designed and the open kitchen was fully equipped with all the tools needed to prepare the wonderful food found in the local organic markets.

The master suites were spacious and there is even a beautiful enclosed bamboo atrium garden in the bathroom!

Our housekeep Isabel was so helpful and eager to please.....always with a smile. She anticipated our every need and was a real asset during our stay.

Neil, the property manager was ever available and was a pleasure to speak with and visit........his philosophy on life is a lesson we will try to inject into our own lifestyle.

We look forward to our next visit.

definitely an exquisite stay

  • 5 of 5

The minute we walked through the door, all was calm. Walking in the front gate to Koi fish in the pond, we knew this was going to be a special stay. And the yummy Spa smells once in the house!!! (products can be purchased in town - Hecho SMA) Our retreat-home was perfect for relaxing from a busy day exploring: laying by the pool in warm winter sunshine, sitting on the different level decks looking out over the lake, watching the local birds enjoy the beautiful landscape and pool, walking in the garden, enjoying all the art, listening to the wind blow the bamboo in the bathroom atrium and cooking a Christmas morning breakfast. Oh, and the house comes with a cute pool boy (wink). You will love your stay here!!!

Such an inviting peaceful home.

I really can't say enough about how much we loved our stay at this wonderful home. We arrived very late and Neil was there to greet us. He had left us bread, fruit and eggs among other items; everything we needed. The house was so much more than we imagined. Very beautiful and had such a nice "zen" feel to it. After walking all day (and wow we really did walk all day) it was so nice to come home to the house and immediately feel relaxed. We sat by the tranquil pool sipping our wine and watching the hummingbirds. We enjoyed the morning walks to town but at night we hailed a cab only because I spent way too much money shopping and always had many bags.

We have stayed in many VRBO places and this by far has been our favorite. If we ever come back to San Miguel this is most definitely where we will stay. My husband says it will be a while because we are now broke from all my shopping trips! San Miguel has such beautiful textiles!

Also a big shout out to Victor and his staff for our drives to and from the airport. Very courteous and timely.

And last, many thanks to Solidad. Our place was always clean, full of fresh flowers and smelled absolutely wonderful every time we walked in the door...wonder what she uses?

We just loved this little piece of heaven!
