Why Andrew Bruckshaw chose Cabeceiras de Basto
We fell in love with the view from our house. Then we fell in love with the area and its people. This is real Portugal.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Quick and easy to get to but still away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Peace, tranquillity, relaxation and time to enjoy being together.

Beautiful and well maintained house in lovely and rual area.
Very clean and well equipped house. The communication with the owner was very good when we had questions. Thanks Andy! The area is great for walking and sightseeing. There are plenty of maps and flyers for day trips in the house to get inspired. Unfortunately, the weather was not to good, at the time we were there to get much use of the pool or the BBQ. But we still enjoyed our break by exploring and hiking in this really beautiful area of Portugal.
An excellent villa in a lovely location.
A lovely property and a brilliant pool. Best view ever from the terrace. We had a lovely time and really hope to go back.
The house is lovely spacious and very well equiped. The pool is an added bonus and very clean.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday in Villa Nune A quiet village only a few minutes away from a small town and several other quaint villages. The view from the patio and the pool was fantastic and we didn`t move very much at all during the first week. During he second week we explored a few of the towns recommended in the information folder that Rachael and Andy had compiled for visitors which was very helpful. Would love to visit again sometime.

Photos don't do this property justice
Our first impression of the property was that the pictures don't do the property or the view justice, it was like arriving at our own patch of paradise.
The pool area is a wow with the most amazing views and so very private. Fabulous size Pool, far bigger than you would imagine for a villa of this size. The sun can be enjoyed all day.
Once inside the villa you get the same impression. Proper home from home and the website hadn't mentioned an en-suite to the master bedroom so that was a bonus.
We left a few bottles of wine, some long life milk and packets of cereals to add to the stocks in the cupboards. Sorry no Port though that can be bought for 3 euros a bottle at the supermarket!
Spotlessly clean rooms, comfortable beds, plenty of towels and fans in each bedroom helped to make the stay even more enjoyable.
The great touch for our family was the library of DVDs that made up for no wifi, however, with data roaming charges being stopped by the mobile company we did all have 3G and phone signal.
I would recommend this property for families with toddlers, older children and teenagers as well as an ideal romantic get away. The pool has a lockable gate so no worries about little ones falling in when not supervised.
Really lovely villa with good facilities and amazing views.clean and homely. great pool!
We loved the fact it was in the countryside and had wonderful views over the mountains. The villa was comfortable and well equipped and suited us with 4 children. Dvds and books available to sit inside if it was too hot. The fans we're ok but not brilliant as it was still hot inside at night which made it uncomfortable. The pool was the Best we've ever had on holiday! Good size and warm . Overall a wonderful place and we would stay again.
wonderful and relaxing!
This is our 5th stay at this lovely house. It is very well equipped with everything you need for a happy holiday and very clean . The owners have taken care to provide those extra helpful thoughtful touches such as phrase books, information on the area, games,DVD's ,books and there is always some storecupboard essentials such as olive oil, vinegar, salt pepper, herbs, pasta and rice in the cupboard and you just replace if you finish them off. This time we took our own car sailing to Santander. The house is just under an hour from the Spanish border and it took us 6 hrs in all to drive there from the port. Very easy motorway driving all the way. There are plenty of places to visit if you can tear yourself away from the pool and views! All the locals are very friendly and there are some great places to eat, all very cheap especially the local Vino Verde! This area is real Portugal and you will not hear very many other English voices during your stay. There are 2 National parks which are beautiful to visit, and one of the things we enjoy doing is just going off and exploring the beautiful countryside. The cycle path is easy to walk/cycle and views from it beautiful. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
Special interest holidays:
The area is great for wildlife enthusiasts and bird lovers being close to natural parks for hiking or just enjoying the scenery. The area also has several lakes for water sports. The newly restored Tamega narrow gauge railway line passes through the village close to the villa and is perfect for cycling, running, or walking.
The nearest beaches are in Vila do Conde which is an hours drive away straight down the motorway. Many beaches have life guards and beach huts that you can rent with plenty of cafes and amenities close by. Watch out for the waves.
The closet airport is in Porto with flights available from several airports in the UK. Car hire is easy to arrange from porto airport and the drive to the villa is pretty easy and is mostly motorway, taking about an hour. A car is essential for getting around.
Cafe Cental in Vila Nune - about 500m
The nearest town is Arco de Baulhe which is about 4 km away where you can buy pretty much everything you need. You can find larger supermarkets and an open air market in Cabeceiras de Basto which is about 8km. Cabeceiras also has a lovely monastery and interesting museum of regional life. There are many restaurants dotted about with the nearest being on the way to Arco (Churrasqueira do paco).
The local restaurants mostly serve traditional Portuguese food particular to the area and is generally very good vaue though not ideal for vegetarians. The local vinho verde wine is very good and very cheap. Banks can be found in Arco de Baulhe. The nearest health center is in Cabeceiras de Basto.
