About Paul Gerrard
The Property is managed after by our friends Paul & Raffaella, who live nearby. We have recently purchased the House and intend on spending as much quality time there as possible, we enjoy spending time at the House and having Family and friends stay over, we have fallen in love with the area around Bagni Di Lucca as it offers us everything we need and gives us chance to relax away from our stressful working lives. Our children love it as we can walk in the nearby forests or paddle around in the River Lima there is always something to occupy them in such a peaceful, safe and beautiful area.
Paul Gerrard purchased this House in 2010
Why Paul Gerrard chose Bagni di Lucca
The family bought the house as a retreat and a place to relax with family and friends during the Spring and Summer months, they chose Benabbio as it has a triving year round population and is home to the best Restaurants in the area. The village also contains everything they need with cafe, bars and well equipped shops. The locals are extremely friendly and offer all a warm welcome to the village which made them feel part of the community.
What makes this House unique
The property is ideal as it's situated in the small but vibrant Village of Benabbio, with everything one could need, but only a few minutes drive from the centre of Bagni Di Lucca so we and the family can stroll into the Village without the need to get in a car every time we wish to venture out. Not many other properties in the Bagni Di Lucca area offer the flexibility that is afforded by our location.

Wonderful stay in a lovely village.
We have just spent 8 nights in Benabbio and had a lovely peaceful stay. The villa is terrific, clean & well equiped. Our daughters loved the pool and visiting the small stores just around the corner (20mtrs). There is great information on the region provided & Paul is a lovely, helpful & welcoming host.
The village has a great restaurant (book for the tourists lunch... cheap & delicious). It also has a great pizzaria.
We enjoyed our stay :)
Thanks Tess for your wonderful review, we are glad you and your family enjoyed your stay with us, if you are ever back in Italy again we would love to have you back.
Simply stunning. Surely this has to be rural Italy at its best.
We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Irene. From the moment Paul showed us around the property, we knew we'd chosen well. The photos just do not do it justice.
The villa is well laid out, with a very well equipped kitchen. The outside area in particular is a lovely place to be with the (better than expected) pool and BBQ area. We spent many an hour cooling off in the pool and supping a few cold beers at the BBQ.
Spend a few minutes staring down the valley from the rear windows with a coffee (or cold beer) and you'll never want to leave.
For a small village there's loads going on, with the two restaurants and little shops giving you everything you'd need. (complete with 'fluid' opening times for the grocery store). The pizza restaurant at the top is really friendly and were more than happy to make a wonderful birthday cake when asked. The restaurant in the middle of the village is worthy of its TripAdvisor rating. Without speaking much Italian, we were never too sure quite what we were ordering, but it was always amazing. The tagliatelle with wild mushrooms is probably the best pasta dish I've ever eaten.
The surprise in the village is the 'bar'. At first look, you wonder what you've walked in to, but it is friendly and busy every night. There's a real community in this lovely village.
Benabbio is far enough up into the hills to feel like you are out of the way, but close enough to Bagni di Lucca that you can get everything you need.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and were very sorry to leave. We quite simply cannot recommend it enough.
We are so glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay Max, you are right. Benabbio is a brilliant and friendly Village, where visitors are always made welcome.
A lovely holiday in a beatiful location
Having got to Benabbio up the very windy roads (a bit of a shock first time but you soon get used to it!!) we were a little concerned about parking when we arrived, as it was very busy on a Saturday night, which meant it was not that easy to park nearby ... but Paul soon re-assured us that you can pretty much park anywhere you like (within reason), and we didn't have any problems after that, so you can park about 1 min walk from the property without too much hassle. In fact Paul was very helpful all round, he accommodated our arrival later than planned at short notice, and took time to tell us all about the house and local areas.
The property itself was lovely - very spacious and comfortable. If we were being fussy we could have done with a little bit more workspace in the kitchen (although there is a large table as well), but that was about it. It has all the appliances you need. No Wi-fi, but a good 4G signal at the back of the house. Big TV with a fair selection of UK DvDs for all. The fans in all of the bedrooms and the living room were very welcome in the extra hot weather. Views out of the windows were sensational - far better in real life than on the website. The outdoor space was very welcoming - a great pool (not huge but by no means tiny), plus a friendly cat or two who paid us regular visits. Nice outdoor furniture for relaxing.
We went to Florence, to Lucca (cycling around the wall was fantastic), to the beach at Viareggio (head for Torre Del Lago, as far south as you can go where the free beach is). The local pizza restaurant was lovely, just a couple of mins walk up the hill past the church.
All in all, a great base for a fantastic holiday, we would definitely recommend.
Thanks for your very kind review Hayden, we're very glad you enjoyed your stay with us and that the Apartment and Village lived up to your expectations.
We had a great stay at villa Irene! Nice appartment With room for every one and a great pool.
We stayed in villa Irene in Benabbio for ten days. And had a lovely stay. Villa Irene has only one large appartment on the second floor which is the one you rent. In the Basement is the washing machine. The pool area is beside the house. In the appartment there is a larger kitchen and Livingroom and three large bedrooms.
We had dinner and lunch at the two restaurants in the village, great local restaurants With nice people. In the village is also a small grocery store there you can buy bread and so on. For larger food shopping We went down to Bagni di Lucca.
The area is very nice, arround Benabbio you can find small trails for morning run or just a Walk. The village is a bit sleepy, but Very beutiful.
In the area around Begni di Lucca you find action activitis in the canyons, We did stand up paddel board (sup) one day in one canyon and can highly recommened that!
We did day-trips to Pisa (1 h drive), Lucca (0,5 h drive), and some beaches (1 h drive), and even a longer day-trip to siena (2 h drive).
Villa Irene, Benabbio and the north part of Toscana is just very nice!
Thanks for your great review Hanna, glad we could help make your holiday memorable.
The photos don't do justice to the charming superbly equipped property and its stunning views, and Benabbio is a fasntastic location
Thanks for your review Julian, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.
Lovely apartment in a very charming litte village
We had a fantastic week in this lovely apartment. Everything about it is just great and the surroundings are amazing. The green patio with the pool is just perfect and was very appreciated in the sun. We can highly recommend the two restaurants in the village. The pizzeria makes the best pizza we ever tasted during our 3 weeks in Italy and the other restaurant serves perfect homemade Italian food.
I hope we will come back in the future. Benabbio has a special place in our hearts now and Paul was such a great host and extremely helpful and serviceminded. Thanks a million Paul for letting us stay in your lovely apartment! Have a lovely summer!
You are welcome Anna, we're glad you and your family had a wonderful time, we would love to see you again.
The Versilian Coast, about 1hr, is fantastic all year round. Wide sandy beaches & warm shallow waters make it ideal for families. Here you will also find children's play areas every 150 metres along the beach, which are great fun for the younger kids. It has miles of bars, shops & restaurants as well as stunning piers & small coves where you will find traditional fishing villages with trattorias selling fresh fish on their menus. All beaches have won Awards for cleanliness and amenities.
