Cottage, Nr. Perigueux, Dordogne - Peaceful Location For Exploring Region
About Alan Cox
Julie and I live and work in Beijing, China as educators. With our three children and cat we enjoy the urban excitement that Beijing offers but look forward to holidays where we can slow down the pace and enjoy the beautiful tranquil countryside of the Dordogne.
Alan Cox purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Alan Cox chose Cherval
A quiet place to get away from it all, enjoy the sunshine, food and the good company of friends and family we wanted a cosy place to be our second home that our family and future families would be able to enjoy.

Family holiday in beautiful rural setting
This is a beautiful, character filled but practical place to stay and was perfect for the 6 of us covering ages 17-80. The pool is absolutely gorgeous and the setting of the property is quiet and rural although you can hop on bikes and be within 10 mins of a bakery. Brantôme, St Estephe Lake and beach, Périgueux and Ribérac market are all great trips, all within 40 mins of this property and we would happily return again in the future. Highly recommend it.
We are glad you and your family found the property and setting suitable for your wide ranging age group! We too enjoy having the whole extended family together in one place under the sun.
Lovely place. Lots of character.
Spacious. Enough accommodation to suit big group. Well located for a restful holiday but with relatively easy access to places of interest. Nice garden and pool.
We spent 1 week at the property. It was relaxing from start to finish. The house has everything that you could possibly need making it a home from home..we were able to cook family meals for the week.
Our 2 children were kept entertained all week at the house as alongside the pool there are plenty of games, dvds and games console to keep them busy.
The house itself is beautiful..the character features enable you to fully absorb yourself into the French way of life (in luxury). The beautiful pool was well used as the weather was fab.
We found the location convenient as it was secluded enough to be truly relaxing, yet within driving distance of many towns and amenities. The house had guide books and leaflets of attractions and places of interest which we found really useful.
Definitely recommend !
Dear Jenny and family
Julie and I are glad you all felt at home. For us there is nothing like cooking a big family meal together and enjoying each other's company - glad you enjoyed it too! Lots of laughs for sure.

Excellent Holiday Home
A very spacious, well presented holiday home. There are plenty of rooms, the bedrooms are very generous and there are plenty of seating areas. The kitchen is well equipped and there are lots of dining areas inside and out.The house was very clean and tidy. The pool was excellent- a very generous size, lots of space around for sunbathing etc and clean.
We were a family party of 10 adults,8 aged between 24 and 29 and they absolutely loved it.The pool was a great hit- only leaving the house for food shopping and canoeing!! We would have no hesitation in recommending this holiday home.Thank you for such a wonderful stay .
Dear Collette and family,
So glad you and your family enjoyed your stay! I personally cannot wait to sit and relax by the pool myself... Nothing like dining alfresco on the long French summer nights.

Fabulous setting and very charming cottage
Had a wonderful relaxing 2 week stay in August. Plenty of room for the 7 of us and parking for both vehicles which was a great plus. Swimming pool used everyday and was well needed as the weather was very hot. Evening's sat outside on decking enjoying BBQ''s. Both teenage boys loved having their own area with TV, double sofa bed and shower room. The master bedroom and bathroom was massive, other bedrooms were also a good size. Did attempt one bike ride to the patisserie in Cherval. No hesitation in recommending a family to stay at the property. If you do get a chance try the kayaking in Brantome - we did the 12km route and was great fun. Also visit Riberac market on a Friday.
Dear Sharon (and family) -
We are glad you had a great time at the house and the area. Yes, our older boys and their friends do indeed enjoy that loft area as a 'young-man's cave'. Plenty of Playstation football tournaments late into the night! Great place for them to get some space and chill out time when needed.

Beautiful home in a relaxing, rural setting.
We had a wonderful time staying in the property with our friends. There were 4 adults and 5 children and the layout of the house gave us plenty of space to have time together and find a quieter spot if needed. The house of full of character and beautifully restored. It is very well equipped with everything you need and more. The children loved the pool toys and spent lots of time having fun in what is a great sized pool, even with 9 people in it. We visited the market at Brantome-en-Perigord which was beautiful and only a 25 min drive away. You can hire canoes here which we didn't do, but it looked lots of fun. The closest bakery was in cycling and running distance (2.5k) in Cherval and the pastries were delicious! The hamlet is very quiet and makes for a truly relaxing holiday!
Dear Marsha and crew - Julie and I are very happy you enjoyed your stay. The peace and quiet certainly does recharge our own batteries when we stay - our excuse is that the walk/run/ride to the bakery helps combat the additional calories!
