About the property

3,000+ Square Foot, Three Bedroom plus Bonus Room , 2 1/2 Bath Quiet Haven

Gorgeous 3,000+ square foot, three bedroom plus bonus room, 2 1/2 bath updated beach house on wooded one acre grounds directly on the Gulf of Mexico with magnificent views of the secluded beach. Master bedroom features one king bed, 2nd bedroom has two full-size beds, and 3rd bedroom/bunk room has one queen and two single beds. Bonus room has a full-size pull-out sofa bed with memory foam topper. Home to over 200 trees (palms, live oaks etc.), our beach paradise affords visitors privacy on this ecologically protected key just 1 1/4 hour drive from Tampa International Airport, and 38 miles from Sarasota/Bradenton airport. While our home provides uncommon peace and quiet, beach shops and restaurants are only 5 miles away and a wide assortment of retail establishments (grocery stores, Walmart, pharmacies, theater, etc.) are in easy driving distance.

Our backyard (the beach) features a rarity in a reef, home to tropical fish and a fisherman’s dream of some of the country’s best sport fishing for snook, redfish, trout, tarpon, etc. Paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing, jetskiing, snorkeling, gathering shells and fossilized sharks teeth, make this one fun playground. The beach is a nesting area for sea turtles. Dolphins frequent the waters just offshore, cruising for fish that attract a wealth of birds, from pelicans to great herons. On occasion, manatee will cruise our beach.

An entertainment center features a 60-inch Sony HDTV, Blueray DVD player, surround-sound speakers, and wireless internet connectivity, movie streaming etc. A large farm table welcomes 10 diners beside a modern kitchen equipped with high-end stainless steel refrigerator-freezer, Bosch dishwasher, disposal, microwave, oven, ceramic surface cooktop. A propane/charcoal grill and electric smoker broaden cooking options.

White wooden rocking chairs await you on the second floor open air balcony overlooking the lawn, tree canopy, and of course, beach and Gulf, replete with gorgeous sunsets. An outdoor enclosed rainshower pours torrents of water to refresh from salt water dips. Hammocks for deck and lawn (strung between palms) provide relaxing perches.

A third deck sits beachside atop the sand with a decorative table seating six for sunset dinners by the surf.

Come see why Manasota Key has been the choice of celebrities seeking privacy, quiet, and soul-rejuvenating natural beauty. Fall in love with this special place as you unwind, perched high in white rocking chairs on our expansive porch overlooking the surf, or in one of our hammocks nestled in the trees, or on Adirondack chairs where our beautiful lawn meets the sand, or marveling at one of Manasota Key's famous sunsets dining at our beach patio table atop the sand. Our guests will never want to leave this place that so captured our hearts.

Our preference, depending on the season and demand, is to rent Saturday to Saturday.

About Carolyn Oken

When our kids were toddlers, we sought a haven where we could relax and enjoy the very best of Florida's beaches and natural beauty, whether lounging or pursuing fun waterfront activities. We fell in love with our property and so will you. Our kids have now grown and are off at college, but love to return to our beach home. We live in Tampa. Glenn grew up in Boston, graduated from The University of Virginia, works in private equity, and enjoys exercise, boating, fishing, travel, great books, movies, food and wine. I grew up in the U.S., Argentina, Chile, the Philippines, and graduated from The University of Florida. I am a homemaker and enjoy cooking reading and walking on the beach. We are blessed to have a wonderful family, friends, and this amazing property to share with others.

Carolyn Oken purchased this house in 2001

Why Carolyn Oken chose Englewood

We were fortunate to be invited as a guest to a friend's home on Manasota Key. The unspoiled, quiet beaches, and amazing tropical flora captured our hearts. The combination of stunning beach and this wealth of live oaks and palms (the live oaks form an arch over the two lane road at places) create an uncommonly beautiful and peaceful setting. We knew that we had found our family's paradise, where the kids could run and explore, and we can enjoy for generations to come.

What makes this house unique

The architecture of our home fits the setting. Ours is a spacious wooden house that we remodeled with the design inspiration of a gorgeous island home in the Bahamas that we saw in an architectural magazine. Dark wide plank floors contrast a canvas of white walls and tongue in groove ceilings with substantial beams. Large baseboards and high-end fixtures throughout lend a feeling of quality. One of our favorite things about the house are the 6 sets of new white sliding glass doors that open creating an open air aspect to our home. The walls virtually disappear when opened, inviting an ocean breeze.

Great beach vacation home!

  • 4 of 5

Great home and well taken care of. Much larger than expected! Great lawn for games and well-stocked garage with beach toys, games, fishing gear, etc. Fabulous shark tooth hunting. Owner is easy to work with, answers questions quickly and was responsive during our stay there. Only disappointment was the reef prevents you from just running in the ocean and swimming. Quite rocky in this section of the key and you need to float out a ways before you can swim. House/location would otherwise be a 5 star.

Magnificence in Manasota

  • 5 of 5

This is an absolute gem on the beautiful beach! I have lived and traveled around the world, and this is the nicest house I have ever been to. Immaculately clean yet cozy, one can see the amazing views of the ocean from almost every room in the house ! Hearing the ocean while eating on the beautiful deck rejuvenates the soul and spirit. The kitchen is excellently equipped , The grill on the front side of the house is massive for a family to enjoy a big meal. Fresh fish is available for a five minute drive from this oasis. There are an amazing array of shops and restaurants for all your needs. But honestly, we didn’t want to leave the house much as it is just too beautiful, calming and relaxing. There is a huge HDTV with surrounding sound systems if one can choose to take their eyes off the beautiful ocean view. The beds are the most comfortable ever... Carolyn is a rockstar! I can’t wait to go back there again!

Could do better for the cost

  • 4 of 5

The house is lovely and the position on the beach is amazing. However although it would probably sleep 12 they would have to be good friend as the are only really 3 bedrooms. Two of which have partitions/curtains across them to accommodate further beds. Also we had to wash the bedding when we arrived as it was dirty. So was the BBQ. Little things let it down.

Owner's Response: Hi Stacey, I'm sorry you thought the AC needed updating; both units are new (purchased in 2014). If we had known it wasn't working at 100% we would've sent a tech over to check it out right away and get it working properly, which we did immediately upon learning of the need. Best regards, Carolyn
