Why Sylvia Smith chose Fowey
We loved the area on our first visit and the cottage sold itself with its views. We particularly like this area as it is easily accessible from the A38 (only 35 minutes from the Tamar Bridge) yet its very secluded. There is little traffic on the local roads even in the height of summer.
What makes this Cottage unique

Summer 2019 holiday
Location of the house was perfect, quiet, rural location. The owners made us feel welcome and were on hand, but not obtrusive. The house it comfortable and a good size for a family of 5. I would recommend this holiday home to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in a lovely part of Cornwall.
Lovely hosts, lovely house with beautiful gardens. Well equipped and comfortable.
Kitchen especially well stocked, great layout for families to share, appealing spaces, great for dog owners. Wonderful views, very sound proof. Lots of beautiful walking opportunities. Owners very friendly and accommodating. Only reason not 5 stars was distance to many tourist attractions but use of ferry helpful with that.
Comfortable hide-away in a beautiful setting.
A beautiful location set in quiet surroundings with super views from the rear of the property. A spacious garden and patio provided a secluded outdoor area to enjoy with the addition of the swimming pool and swing area in the larger garden. The cottage is comfortable and provides all the necessary items to make everyone feel at home. The kitchen is well equipped for home cooking and the utility room provides good washing and cleaning facilities. The lounge/dining area provides a lovely modern family space to gather and the 3 bedrooms offer snug comfort in the old cottage part of the building. The bathroom and shower room were well suited to both those who wanted to shower or for those who prefer to linger in a bath. The cottage is suitably located for walks or short car journeys to tourist destinations and a variety of beaches. A delightful stay.
Idyllically quiet. Beautifullly situated with stunning countryside views.
We enjoyed this comfortable cottage overseen by the hospitable owners who were always there to help if needed, but were unobtrusive. The experience of complete peace and quiet as well as many lovely walks was much appreciated by us. The ‘dog friendly’ status of this property was borne out by the experience of staying at Colquite with our Labrador. Plenty of local sightseeing is easily accessed on and off of the tourist trail.
Thank you for your kind comments. Your review reflects our vision of Colquite. It was a pleasure to have you staying in our Holiday Cottage.
excellent property owners very welcoming
Thank you for your comments. We hope to see you again.
This is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of South Cornwall, with stunning views and lovely walks from the cottage. One of our favourites is along Penpol Creek where you can see several species of ducks and other water birds. Sometimes migrating geese can be seen and heard in their hundreds. It is an ideal location for walkers and their dogs. Wi-fi & Sky T.V. are provided. An oval pool approximately 6m by 3m with a solar cover is available in July and August. The patio has rattan patio furniture, sunloungers and a barbeque. It's an ideal place to relax and enjoy this peaceful location. Access is down a long private drive shared with Colquite Farm and Colquite Barn. The nearest coves and beaches are a few minutes by car. Lantic Bay, one of the largest, has a good safe beach sheltered by the cliffs behind. Access to Lantic Bay is a down well worn cliff path.At low tide other more secluded coves can be reached from here. Lantivet, just along from Lantic Bay is a quieter but interesting cove. At low tide there is lots of pristine sand and rock pools for children to explore. Lansallos is another beautiflul cove. You arrive here following the old smugglers track that winds through a wooded valley from Lansallos Church. Between Lantivet and Lansallos is the tiny Palace Cove that enjoys the last of the evening sun. The miles of coastal path have stunning vistas and are edged with wild flowers through the Spring and Summer months. There are several circular walks that include the coastal path and quiet inland lanes. One of the more famous local walks is Hall Walk which takes you into Pont Pill and through the woods along the Fowey Estuary to Polruan, a trip from Polruan to Fowey on the passenger ferry, a walk through the town and returning on the car ferry. The car ferry, one and a half miles away, gives easy access to Fowey. In the summer Fowey is a bustling coastal town with a magnificent natural harbour visited by many yachts. It has lots of interesting restaurants and shops. The Fowey Regatta in August is a popular event as is the literature and music festival in May. You can go on a Day Trip to Mevagissey on the ferry from Fowey. The fishing villages of Looe and Polperro are also close by. Looe, has the usual tourist shops and restaurants including some good fish and chip shops. It has a sandy beach, reached by a walk through the town. You can also walk along the harbour side and watch the fishing boats.Children enjoy crabbing here. Polperro is a picturesque fishing village with lots of character cottages on narrow streets leading to the pretty harbour full of fishing boats. Lerryn, famous for its stepping stones and pretty riverside walks is only a few miles away. There are several pubs in the area serving good food. The nearest is The Old Ferry in at Bodinnick which is located just by the ferry to Fowey. It has a high level restaurant overlooking Fowey harbour.
The nearest coves and beaches are a few minutes by car. Lantic Bay, the largest, reached by a well worn path, has a good safe beach sheltered by the cliffs. Lantivet, is a quieter but interesting cove, sandy at low tide with rock pools. Lansallos is another beautiflul cove reached by the old smugglers track. Across the ferry are more coves,Readymoney, Polpridmouth and Polkerris. Par Sands ,is a very large sandy beach, backed by sand dunes is about 5 minutes drive from the ferry.
