A Restored Wagon Barn On A 1790's Farm

Bedrooms 1
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 1-4 people per booking

The Cottage is a completely renovated 19th century post and beam structure boasting a wonderful open floor plan with wood and stone tile floors throughout. The main floor has a fully equipped kitchen for guests, a bathroom with shower, and a spacious sitting area with WIFI and a large flat screen smart TV. The large loft bedroom features a queen size bed. Additional guests from the same booking party can be accommodated on a very comfortable queen sleeper sofa in the main living area. In all there are over 1,000 square feet of pure privacy.

Guests will be treated to spectacular western views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, particularly at sunset. Open a window and fall asleep to the sounds of cattle grazing or the call of spring peepers. Enjoy the unfiltered night sky filled with stars and lightning bugs. Take in the wetland that runs through our property providing additional treats from Mother Nature including bald eagles, great herons, hawks, Canadian geese, and red foxes (after all, this is Virginia hunt country). Sit at the fire pit patio (an old silo slab) and enjoy an outdoor meal or glass of wine.

Daily continental breakfast of organic fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastry. Organic orange juice, milk, half and half, cereal, coffee and tea are stocked in the kitchen. Guests are welcome to bring additional items to cook.

Dunthorpe Farm is more that just a cottage B & B. It is the restored 1790's farm of Kelly and Philip Foltman, and includes Dr. Foltman's veterinary practice and several personal horses. They also share their home with two cats and two dogs which guests are asked to enjoy en lieu of bringing their own pets.

Most Charming 5 Star of Northern Virginia

  • 5 of 5

If you knew me, I am not the person who has the time in my work day to send reviews. This stay from Kelly and Phil deserves It! Every detail from wine accessories to a stocked Kuerig is thought of. You will feel at home with a clean and comfortable bed with super pillows. Breakfast was delivered around 7:30 am with fresh fruit and scones. Two delightful dogs and two friendly cats would come visit from time to time (only outside). The farms location will give you every bit of atmosphere with scenic views to horses and cows grazing. There is a large fire pit stocked with wood and a gorgeous view. The farm is in the heart of Loudoun County wine clusters (41 wineries). I can go on and on, but trust me when I say this... this is a hidden Gem! My wife and I will be back and are telling many friends about our awesome stay. Thank you Kelly and Thank you Phil... it was a pleasure meeting both of you!

Lovely home in a beautiful spot with all the amenities

  • 5 of 5

The owners have beautifully restored an old carriage house. They paid attention to every detail we could imagine and more. Everything was perfect and we had a great time. We’d definitely go back if we are in the area again.

Charming character prevails...

  • 5 of 5

Tucked away in a quiet part of Loudoun Wine Country, this quaint restored barn is a perfect getaway. We loved the location and the barn so much we extended our stay for two additional nights. Everything from its airy open space, the tucked away sleeping loft, a breakfast bar with well-stocked items, an efficient kitchen, a mudroom to drop your shoes, comfy furniture to relax in, homemade scones with fresh fruit brought to your door each morning...the list could go on. Plus it is conveniently located to so many great sightseeing places but tucked away from any noise, just nature. And Kelly was awesome. Always available and ready to answer any questions. It's one of those places you can keep coming back to...and hopefully will.

Perfect, perfect, perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Kelly and Phil have created and maintain a wonderful rustic oasis. The cottage, tucked cozily and privately, into their property, has the feeling of being both far away and close at the same time. The hosts are thoughtful and responsive without detracting from the tranquility and solitude the cottage affords. The architecture is simple yet stunning, the views of field and mountain are beautiful, all of the touches of home are there. The breakfast of fruit, yogurt, locally made scones, and cereals with organic milk, was delightful. The coffee was excellent. There wasn't an inch of space or a moment of interaction that didn't feel considered and meaningful.

I can't recommend this experience highly enough.
