About Bobby Dabbs

We are Bobby and Lee, and we live in Austin, Texas. We purchased this property recently from a good friend who has owned it since 2011. We have been looking for a long time for a riverfront property that we could use for our family and share with others when we aren't using it, and we've found our dream property.

Bobby Dabbs purchased this house in 2016

Why Bobby Dabbs chose Prairies & Lakes

We love Central Texas, and we love being near the water. Bobby's family had lake property when he was growing up, and he has such great memories of weekends being away from the routine of being in a city.

What makes this house unique

The River House has 4 bedrooms, and will be a perfect place for families and groups, as well as a romantic getaway for a couple.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The view and the grounds were spectacular ! We really enjoyed seeing birds (Caracas, finches, vultures, chickadees, and titmice), from the porch. The number of rooms and beds for our family gathering was prefect!

Great weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

We chose this place for a short weekend away from our busy lives in Austin - we loved hanging out in the river and on the deck and patio. It's far enough out of town to feel like a getaway but close enough to be convenient. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our own meals and there is a nice newish grill/smoker that we took full advantage of. Only complaint was that the wifi service wasn't great, which was only really noticeable when trying to stream music through our phones. Would definitely stay here again!

I loved the location. It was nice to have so many areas to hang out while family was visiting.

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place for us to kick back and have family come over in preparation of my daughters wedding. My only complaints were that we had to sweep when we got there, I can understand a few bugs or cobwebs but there were crumbs under the coffee table and all through the kitchen, the wifi connected , supposedly, but was never able to access the Internet and the water pressure was terrible and at times couldn't get enough hot water. All in all we would stay again. Thank you!

Smithville 818700

The house was clean and well prepared for visitors. Bobby kept me apprised of the river level and wi-fi problems which were ok by the time we got there. Unfortunately the river was still too fast to enjoy but we made do with Barton Springs. The queen bed upstairs was a little creaky. My 4 yr. old loved the bunk bed and the stairs. I would recommend this house for rental.

One of the Best Weekends in Many Years!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are expatriate Texans living in Pennsylvania for the last 13 years. For my 60th birthday we rented this absolutely fabulous river cottage a few miles outside of Smithville and hosted both of our sons and their wives and children. With one son living in Round Rock and the other in Missouri City it was a nice respite for both to get away from jobs and city traffic. For us it is always a treat to see not only our boys and their wives, but our fabulous grand children as well! We arrived around noon on February 26 and were immediately smiling at our surroundings. The cottage is on a sparsely populated circle with easy access to the Colorado River. The neighbors next door had free range chickens that were very popular with our young grandchildren. The home is laid out perfectly for accommodating a large number of guests. We as hosts had the downstairs master while our sons and wives each had a room on the second floor and the grandchildren also had a room to themselves which they thought was pretty cool. The between the living and dining area 6-10 people can easily sit and carry on a conversation. We did however spend little time inside as the weather was perfection. Seventy five degrees and not a cloud in the sky each day we were there.

Saturday we hosted about 15 friends in addition to our family for burgers and lots of conversation. The downstairs patio and lawn area were perfect for that. We did introduce ourselves to the neighbors ahead of time and alerted them that we would have guests that day. The neighbors were very cordial and we respected their proximity by keeping our voices at conversation levels. While our guests were here each remarked on how cool the cottage was and everyone made the journey from the backyard down to the river at least once.

Sunday we cleaned up and prepared all sheets and towels for the housekeeping service prior to departure. We are VRBO property owners as well (#627338) and we always appreciate it when guests make an effort to leave the home as they found it.

We are actually thinking of retiring in the Bastrop/Smithville/LaGrange area so we would have no problem renting the cottage again in the future while we explore the area.

To Bobby, Lee, John and Penn we say "Many Thanks!".

Very Nice Surprise!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this very nice little river house. The house was very well maintain and very clean. Actually this house was nicer than most houses on that area. Beautiful mature pecan trees in the back leading to the river was very relaxing to see. I plan on staying again next year because it's a perfect little getaway!
