About Debera Reiley

~ It’s me, Debera, your host . Perhaps you’d like to know a bit about me before you become a guest. I would certainly want to know who I am renting from away from home if not a hotel.

~ Just a few tidbits: I was raised in Tucson, Arizona and attended NAU and UAA. Lived in central Texas for a couple years. Taught school for awhile and then felt the wanderlust. I had never seen much except the desert and hot and dry. As a youngster, I dreamed of really high magnificent mountains, the ocean and always travel (read books with a flashlight at night in bed under the covers). As a high school student I saw photos of New Zealand and its green green landscape and glaciers.

~ Bingo: I started for New Zealand by way of Canada and Alaska in a VW Westfalia. I know a strange routing but I had never been anywhere so why not? Arriving in Alaska, I took one look at the mountains dropping vertically into Turnagain Arm and that was it! I was hooked! Alaska became my home for 30 years. Hiking, skiing, sailing and raising children filled those years along with foreign travel in winter (the typical Hawaii for Alaskans, Europe, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Middle East (by accident) and Africa. If you don’t get out of Alaska in winter, cabin fever will set in.

~Another Bingo…what to do next? I was raised with Latin as a language choice (impossible to speak) but always wanted to speak a foreign language. New chapter: I took my precious dog, Oliver Twist and moved to France in 2005, went to a language institute, studied harder than I ever remember, hiked, skied , sailed across the Mediterranean, road motorcycles with my dog, parasailed, sailplaned….Oh my goodness, it was a fabulous year and a half! Why do all wonderful things have to come to an end?

~ Another chapter on the way. I didn’t have a plan coming back from Europe except I didn’t think long dark winters of Alaska were right for me. I stopped in Seattle to see friends and well, here I am.

Why Debera Reiley chose West Queen Anne

Not atypical in Seattle when older homes come on the market, they are torn down to make way for new 3 story modern boxes. Such was the situation with this lovely old home built in 1938-39. It had good bones, it was integral part of a neighborhood and it needed to be saved along with a 100 years old Douglas Fir tree. Nothing had been done to update it since it was built. There was no decision but to try to buy it. It did need a complete facelift including new kitchen, new bath, skim coating of all the walls, refinishing old growth fir and oak floors, all new appliances, and a new paint scheme to bring it up to date but still maintain its place in history. . So there you have it. I was fortunate to be in a position to buy this home and save it from destruction. The Bluff, was totally unplanned for. If I didn’t buy it, it would have been destroyed. Voila! I have 2 vacation rentals. I live next door and have a cottage called LE BIJOU. Precious. It is also a vacation rental. For information, go to

What makes this house unique

Being a host has been very important to the quality of my life. I meet interesting people from all over the world who are looking to Seattle as a place to explore, adventure, visit families, conduct business, try out new experiences. I hope to add a special experience and a personal touch for each guest while staying in LE BIJOU or THE BLUFF. It is fun and rewarding for me to see guests really enjoy and experience their vacation and visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Debera, if the accommodations were any lovelier, I would have imagined we had died and gone to heaven! The home with its view and the location; your courtesy and thoughtfulness were superb. We also thoroughly enjoyed the homemade banana bread. Thank you, Jim and Ruth

  • Everything possible was done to this bathroom to take it out of the early 1900s.. It formerly had pink and black tile and yes, a pink tub, toilet and sink. It was REAL vintage. The door opened right into the toilet. You sort of had to angle yourself not to miss it, the toilet, that is. So, the pink tub went (I couldn't even give it away) and instead there is a HUGE walk in shower with wonderful glass doors. I put a washer and dryer in the bathroom for convenience and knowing that everyone needs to do their laundry at some point before heading home. The bathroom is essential for all of us. Why not make it as comfortable as possible?

I am a stickler for an excellent mattress and the best of linens. I iron all the sheets that go on the beds...Yeap! After 2 years, I am still doing it. It is like meditation time for me. If you read this and book Bluff Overlook, please say something about reading this section and my ironing. All my friends think I am nuts. Well, maybe I am, but I personally LOVE ironed sheets to slip into when I go to bed. I think you will too. If 4 persons are staying but there is a need for the twin bed set up, there i an additional $40 fee.

Beautiful Home, Perfect for Family Gatherings,

  • 5 of 5

This is my second time staying at the Bluffs, this time traveling with my family. What can I say but The Bluffs have everything a family needing real bedrooms for privacy, a kitchen to gather together and get a meal/snack together, a spacious dining room where we could have a family meal, a fabulous living room to sit around and get to know each other again, watch the cruise ships coming and going along with all the other ships on Puget Sound…love the tugboats and even though a bit rainy we had a beautiful sunset. The windows to the Puget Sound take it all and I mean ALL in. Not to mention the backyard with a fire pit and even though the evenings were a bit on the cool side, we sat out in the beautiful gardens talking til the late hours. Did I mention the beautiful furnishings and IRONED sheets? The kitchen had everything including cloth napkins and wine glasses that don’t tip over. The owner, Debera, was there for whatever we needed. She had all kinds of ideas of little gem places to go that the locals know about and we visitors try to find. She knew them and shared them. Great recommendations not just for an older family but young families, people who travel a lot and don’t frequent the hotel scene. Oh, the neighbors are fantastic too….lots of dog walkers because the bluff is right in front of the home.

Owner's Response: You and your family couldn't have been nicer guests. I love seeing the gardens and fire pits used and enjoyed along with the sounds of conversation and laughter. The weather was bit rainy but it didn't stop any of you from taking advantage of your stay at The Bluffs. Thank you for the mention of the little extra things (ironing and cloth napkins) I do to make guests feel they have chosen just the right place for the holiday/stay in Seattle. I hope you will return again and again to The Bluffs .

Wonderful Stay in Seattle

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved the week we spent in Seattle for our family vacation. This was our first trip to Seattle and we enjoyed our stay at The Bluffs immensely. During the week we visited the museums, Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Chihuly Garden and Glass, Mt. Rainier, Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, the aquarium, Safeco Field, Boeing Factory and lots of other fun places.

From the first moment we arrived at The Bluffs, Debera made us feel welcomed and at home. She is a gracious and kind hostess that provided us with lots of valuable information about the area. Her charming home is beautifully decorated and furnished with a stunning view from the living room that overlooks the bay. We enjoyed watching the cruise ships and ferries crossing back and forth across the bay.

Debera’s home is located on a quiet street not far from all the downtown sights of Seattle. After a busy day of sightseeing, it was a pleasure to return to such a comfortable and peaceful setting.

I would highly recommend staying at The Bluffs. We hope the make it back to Seattle soon and we are looking forward to staying at The Bluffs again. Thank you Debera for your warm hospitality!

Family Reunion Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This past week, my family and I rented both “The Bluffs “and “LeBijou” facilities. It was a long-planned reunion with my son's family, returning from a vacation in Alaska, and grandpa, who had escaped from the “oven” called Tucson, AZ. It was a last chance to see both grandsons before they launch off into their respective engineering careers. The previous glowing endorsements of the rentals and their host's attention to every detail were truly understated. Debera Reiley made us all feel a part of our new adventure; that of experiencing Seattle at its best. She made recommendations for things to do; and, perhaps, to avoid. We all had a wonderful time being tourists and then being able to savor the quality comfort of our rentals at day's end. The views of the harbor could be framed as works of art. The beautiful patio gardens and fire pit were icing on the cake as far as being a wonderful family gathering spot. Our ties were renewed. The family recounted their recent travel experiences while fresh in their minds. Probably, saved the grands pages of emails to grandpa. In all honesty, I'll confess to being an old college friend of the owner. But she hasn't changed a bit with her artistic bent, attention to detail and caring nature. We took a vote and all agreed that our stay couldn't have been any better. Thanks, Debb, you're still a good soul.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review of The Bluffs and Le Bijou. It is a perfect location (next door to each other) for a family reunion. All of you used the both properties as they were meant to be enjoyed flowing between yards and the various spaces to enjoy each other. Especially nice was watching grandpa enjoying his grandson before leaving for the big university life under the umbrella/fire pit in the middle of the day sharing conversations with grandsons, son and daughter-in-law. You all used the spaces the way I hoped they would be used by families. Thank you very much for choosing them for your reunion.

Immaculate home in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Debera is the "above and beyond" host - she thought of every small detail. She communicated promptly, helped us to plan out our meals with suggestions of great places near by. She takes pride at what she does. She thought of every single detail - from amazing comfortable beds to binoculars to watch the boats. The location is truly special - I enjoyed my morning runs, the safety of the area and the proximity to SPU where my kids had music camp. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thank . you for your lovely review Svetlana. It was a total pleasure hosting you, your Mom, and your two sons. Just as lovely was listening to your oldest son play the violin in the living room so that we neighbors could enjoy his work on the violin. I do hope you return next year for the Music Camp and stay at The Bluffs again.

Incredible location and views!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, daughter and I stayed at Debera's rental for 4 days this summer and loved the central location and AMAZING views out of the living and dining room. The home is situated on street that makes it seem like you're in a smaller neighborhood far away from the bustle of downtown Seattle. However, in reality you are only minutes from all of the attractions of downtown with easy access to other parts of town. Debera was a great host and greeted us right when arrived. She had a ton of great advice and we enjoyed being able to see her in passing during our stay (she lives next door). She even supplied some awesome toys and kids tents that our daughter loved having during our trip. We would definitely recommend staying here!

Owner's Response: Lovely review, Chris, thank you so much. It was a lot of fun watching all of you enjoy being in Seattle and of course, your little one was a delight. I am happy I had the toys for her to play in. I do hope the three of you venture this way again and hopefully stay at The Bluffs.
