Local activities -- trails, kayaking, fishing & golf, great local dining
Our 100 year old, rustic lodge was once the community Banquet Hall for the mill town of Cedar Shoals, now Porterdale, GA. A recent modern renovation saved the treasure and restored it's luster. The Lodge easily accommodates 4 people with the two sofa beds, and 8 plus with our inflatable mattresses and enos. We supply multiple flavors for the Keurig, a microwave and a ice chest.
There are many outdoor activities and local spots to spend the day:
Golf at The Oaks Course - just 5 minutes away.
Eat at Mystic Grill or the Irish Pub - 3 miles away at the Historic Covington Square
Check our the Newton Trails and the Arts Association during your stay.
As Covington is the Hollywood of the South - you can time your visit during Vampire Diaries filming. We also have an annual Fuzz Run and an amazing 4th of July Celebration with Fireworks at the Covington Square and the downtown Mill Village of Porterdale, GA Come & Join US !!!

Really neat place to accommodate a larger group, just a few updates would make it perfect
Our stay was so much fun. We all loved the asthetic of the place and the location was perfect for a weekend stay to see Covington, GA. It really did it he job for our big 6 person family and our doggies were welcome too. Mr. Levie was easily accessible and answered quickly. We really appreciate his hospitality! The home is about 7 minutes from downtown Covington. Just two suggestions for improvement would be the reason for the 4 star instead of 5, the heat wasn’t turned on when we got there (we turned it on as soon as we entered and realized) and the house was freezing, we lit fires in both the fireplaces with the wood that was left there but they quickly died through the night. It didn’t warm up through the night and it was only until we realized to change the direction of blower on the mini splits the next day that it started warming up. THIS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!! Warmed up in no time! The sidewalk walking down to the house is very unsafe, we are all adults and I think each one of us over the weekend lost our footing or tripped because of the loose pavers. Other than these two things our stay was flawless and we had a great time. Thank you for letting us stay! We would definitely book again. Now that we have the hang of the place! Thanks!!!
Has Potential but...
This could be a cool place with its history, but missed the mark on a few things. The exterior was trashy and unkept. The refrigerator was filthy outside, as was the "kitchen". Lots of lights didnt work. Wife and both kids got splinters on inside staircase. The cabin only has 2 pullout sofas (one for each room) which doesnt make much sense, given the square footage. Worst of all was lack of enough hot water to even take one hot bath (no shower). We had family of 4 so let the owner know, but nothing was done. So we had to check out early to actually find a place with hot water.
That said...with some better furniture and a working hot water heater, this could be a cool place.
We are thankful for all of our guests !!
On this matter, the Maintenance team responded twice, within an hour, with no one at the Lodge to answer the door. They would not go in due to the unexpected dog inside. In four years as a BNB, we have never had these issues; but, we hired a contractor to review and address. Be Blessed !
Our haven from Hurricane Irma
Levie and Tara Maddox were just about the most gracious hosts that anyone could ask for. We had to evacuate from our home in Southwest Florida to get out of the path of Hurricane Irma. We felt so welcome in this wonderful historic lodge. They were already rented out for one of the nights, but let us stay in another of their homes for that night. They even offered to help us move our belongings! There is a lot of history in the lodge and they have decorated it with pieces that keep with the theme. The big claw foot tub was so relaxing! When Irma came through the Porterdale area as a tropical storm, trees were knocked down and power was knocked out. Levie continued to check on us to see if there was anything we needed, even though his own home was without power, also. When it was time to head back to Florida, we could not find an extra gas can anywhere in town to take with us. Levie just gave us one in case we got stranded without gas on the way home. Who does that sort of thing for strangers these days? Levie and Tara Maddox, that's who!! If you get a chance to stay in the Old Scout Lodge, you should definitely do so! Tell them we sent you!!
Spacious cabin with all amenities!
The cabin provided us with everything we needed! Quick response and hospitality from owner helped our stay go smoothly!
Loved the historical experience and could not beat the location!!!
Everything about our experience was smooth and easy. The house was easy to find and no complicated check-in process. The Scout Hut was clean and spacious. The historical hut has character beyond belief and is beautiful!! Loved the original wooden floors, the fireplaces, wooden ceiling beams, and tin roof just to name a few. We were greeted with arrival fruits and muffins. As we were spending the weekend for the Vampire Diaries series finale, proximity to downtown Covington was a necessity. The hut was only minutes down the road from town square. There was absolutely nothing to complain about during our stay. Will definitely stay here again if we visit Covington, Georgia in the future!!!
My family had a great stay. Everything was nice and clean when we arrived. Enjoyed the activities available. If you enjoy kayaking and walking trails this place is perfect. We had a great time. We also had a Family Reunion Dinner there. Everyone enjoyed the openness of the interior and the outdoor area. I would stay again with out hesitation and will recommend it to family members and friends.
