About Jeremy Thompson
We have lived in Tennessee our whole lives. My husband and I both grew up in Nashville. We met in high school and have been married for over 20 years. We also have three kids that keep us on our toes so any chance we get we try to take a vacation!!!!
Jeremy Thompson purchased this Chalet in 2015
Why Jeremy Thompson chose Smithville
This house caught our attention right away because of how at home we felt as soon as we saw it. Once all the renovations were complete it felt more like home than ever. With the amazing views this house offers, it makes it even harder to leave!! It is truly our Home Away From Home!

Great cabin with beautiful views
The owner was very helpful with things we had to contact about. He also did it in a timely manner.
The cabin was beautiful and the surrounding area more-so. We enjoyed the multiple levels, making it easy to let some play pool or watch a movie without disturbing others upstairs.
Could be great, but needs work & better communication from owner, especially check-in
As many other recent reviews have expressed, I wanted to love this rental, but there were too many things wrong with it to give it a good review.
The good stuff: The house was beautiful, clean, there was a great view of the lake (amazing sunrises!), and there was plenty of sleeping space, towels, and room to hang out. The bottom floor is great for gathering and games. It was a close distance from a nice swimming hole (with a boat launch) so that was a great bonus as well.
And now for the stuff that was not great.
Check-in was very difficult. I had to call VRBO customer service because I never got a check-in code and the owner was not responsive. He eventually told us, 4 hours after check-in, that he was sick and apologized for the lack of communication.
While the house was spacious and had enough beds for 15 people, it was not well equipped in other ways. There were not enough plates, mugs, or silverware in the kitchen. We ran out of toilet paper on the first day, which we thought would be a basic necessity and not something we'd need to provide.
The main floor isn't well insulated and got VERY hot, and the fan in the main room didn't work. Luckily the downstairs is cooler, but it was nearly impossible to cook our meals in the hot kitchen. There is a window missing upstairs with insulation taped over it, which is a major safety concern and also probably contributed to the excessive heat. The windows in the front room, while beautiful, need shades because the morning sun comes in and heats up the room. The hot tub needs some repair too - it was lukewarm at best, despite us adjusting the temperature controls. The disco lights were nice, though!
Finally, the dryer does not work. We were expected to wash, dry, and put away all towels that we used over the weekend before we left. Guests should not have to do that to begin with - and especially not without a working dryer. With 13 people, we used enough towels for 2 full loads. We started washing and drying the towels the night before we left, and one load had to go through 3 separate dryer cycles before it even began to feel dry. We texted the owner when we left that we still had a load in the dryer because of the time it took, and he responded that he'd let the cleaning crew know.
I really do think this house could be great. All of these issues are minor, but together they became very frustrating. With basic repairs and better communication, this could easily go from a 2 to a 4-star review!
We had a great time staying at this place. It meet all of our needs. The beds were comfortable too.
Amazing quiet location/beautiful views
If you are looking for a quiet house, this is your place. There are some minor problems we did have with the house but overall, this place is good.
First off, we did have a problem with checking in. We did contact the owner the day before because we haven’t used this website before. He never responded. I tried calling two different numbers that they had and we never got a response. VRBO ended up getting a hold of him two hours after we were supposed to check in and we got the information needed to check in. This was the biggest problem we had on this whole trip. The owner apologized but this is something that shouldn’t happen
Everything else was fine. The house is in good shape, but it can use a little work in certain spots. The window is broken, walls look like they were being painted, Wyatt wanted people to know that he was there and he scratched it on the tv. It’s a bunch of little stuff that probably happened recently, and they are fixing it.
The house can fit a lot of people in it, so if you have a big family, there are a lot of beds. Another problem you would encounter if you have a lot of people is not enough silverware.
Now the great stuff. The views are the reason why we wanted this house and they are amazing if you are into the Mountain View. The outdoor hot tub was another thing that won us over. Sitting there looking at the mountains while drinking a cup of coffee in the morning are amazing. They also have a nice pool table, good tv’s, surround sound, and decent WiFi, even if my kids complained about it sucking. I don’t think they understand the mountains very well. There is also some dvd’s A couple of board games, and a few other things that you can do.
In conclusion, I would recommend this place as long as you can get the information of checking in. There is room for improvement in this house but overall this place is great and I would recommend it.
We had a wonderful stay in Smithville on Center Hill Lake. The house was very nice with plenty of room. The view off the deck was amazing and we were able to eat out there one night when it wasn't too hot. The drive back to the house was winding and only fit one vehicle and we had a hard time with our boat. Fortunately, we were able to obtain a slip at a marina for the week. Otherwise, our stay was great and would return another time!
Truly a home away from home
The house was very comfortable and had a beautiful view. Having a full kitchen really helped and the grill worked perfectly. We would definetly stay in this home again.
There are a couple of recreation areas near the lake house. Hurricane Bridge Recreation Area and Floating Mill Recreation Area. Edgar Evins State Park is also in the area.
