Elvia is a retired law professor and Donna is a practicing lawyer. We live and work upstairs; our renters and visitors are downstairs. We've lived in Austin for more than 30 years and especially love being close in to what the city center offers -- arts, music, theater, scenic beauty, hike-and-bike trails and access to the nearby hill country. We like our quiet neighborhood and look forward to sharing it with visitors who want to enjoy all that Austin has to offer, and then come home to a quiet, comfy place for relaxation and sleep.

ELVIA ARRIOLA/DONNA BLEVINS purchased this apartment in 1994

Elvia moved into this classic style, beautiful 1930's building in 1992 as a tenant at the beginning of her teaching career as a professor at U Texas. Her former landlord Elizabeth Wiggam was 88 at the time. At 90 "Mimi" Wiggam was encouraged to sell and she wanted the next owner to be someone "who would love and appreciate this building." Our ownership history begins in 1994 with Elvia's purchase. Today we own and manage it together.

What makes this apartment unique

The triplex sits on a corner lot. This is an old section of Austin filled with all sorts of architectural history. We are just one block from one of the first buildings in the historic working class neighborhoods. That first home is a landmark and houses a community garden. We are also 2-3 blocks from the historic Sweet Home Church which has served the old African-American population from the 1800s to this day. Some of the houses in the area frequently serve as sites for filmmaking. The area is filled with hundreds of old oaks and cedar elms and neighbors are focused on xeriscaping their yards to conserve water. We have friendly neighbors, lots of dog lovers who stroll the streets in the evening or hang out with their pets at nearby Cafe Medici, one of the best espresso bars in town. Our own two dogs, Buffy and Dexter are little Chihuahua mixes. They stay indoors with us from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. to minimize their noise from squirrel chasing or "talking" to the neighbor dogs.

If you need to zip out of town just drive up one block to Enfield Road, which is two blocks from the Loop 1 highway, and after the Lamar Blvd overpass becomes 15th street, a direct connection eastwards to I-35, N or S. This is a busy, changing area of Austin, known as Old Enfield/Clarksville and very popular with people of all ages and in all stages of their lives.

This place is centrally located and has everything required for a short stay. It’s in a quiet neighborhood with several nice restaurants and markets nearby. Easily accessible from the freeway. The bed was amazingly comfortable.

Great place to take in the Best of Austin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. Elvia and Donna were great hosts and provided everything we needed for a week exploring Austin and SXSW. The cottage is close enough for a quick Lyft or Uber to downtown and yet provided a nice quite neighborhood for us to relax and get away from the SXSW crowds/craziness! The property itself was just perfect for a couple. The kitchen was well supplied and allowed for easy meal prep. We mostly did breakfast as we were out and about for lunch and dinner. The bedroom was comfortable as was the living room. Overall a great place.

Very cute and comfortable place and convenient to UT and other popular Austin attractions

  • 5 of 5

we loved our stay here. it was very convenient to UT where our daughter is going to school, in walking distance to several good restaurants and small grocery stores, and short driving distance to other good restaurants and fun places such as Zilker, lake austin, hike/bike trails, etc. the guest house was very nice, comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay.

The hosts - Elvia and Donna - were very accommodating and helpful as well.

Cozy and welcoming!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were in Austin for the weekend seeing our daughters who are going to UT, living in West Campus. This location was perfect! The accommodations were perfect and Donna and Elvia were wonderful as well at the neighbors that we met on our departure this morning. We definitely want to stay here again the next time we are in Austin!
