About Barbara and Graham Ellison
My husband Graham and I have loved vacationing and living in Cape May County for nearly two decades. We are retired and reside in New Haven, CT. We still have many personal connections in the area and come back annually for extended Fall vacations with our wonderful Labradoodle--Seaweed.
Barbara and Graham Ellison purchased this House in 2015
Why Barbara and Graham Ellison chose Villas
We purchased Beach Plum Cottage December 2015. We fell in love with the quiet tree-lined residential Villas neighborhood called Cape May Beach just a couple hundred steps away from a beautiful Delaware Bay beach. The beach is dog-friendly, allowing our favorite Labradoodle, Seaweed to enjoy a gorgeous sunset walk with us. Because finding a nicely appointed home that allowed travelers to bring their dog proved very challenging, we chose to open our home to pet-owners as well. Also, a five minute walk from Beach Plum Cottage brings you to an entrance to the former Ponderlodge Golf Course, now known as Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management. This park, now expertly managed by the NJ Fish & Wildlife, is another one of the main reasons we purchased a home in this locale. Cox Hall Wildlife park is an incredible place to walk your dog or just yourself on paved paths to see the sparkly lake, loads of birds, and native plants. Additionally, Beach Plum Cottage is 7 miles from all the shops, beaches, restaurants in beautiful Cape May as well as close to numerous activities from shopping to fishing to bird-watching to wine tastings, entertainment and more. To us, this is the ideal vacation place.
What makes this House unique
We have always loved Cape May County and owned a summer home for 17 years in Diamond Beach. We moved to Florida, but got homesick and relocated to New Haven, Connecticut to be near our son. We longed to reconnect with our Cape May connections again so bought Beach Plum Cottage in the "Cape May Beach" neighborhood as we fell in love with it as soon as we saw it. It spacious, updated, while still giving you a cozy feeling. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and well-maintained. The traveler leasing this property will be able to relax as though home with all the modern, clean, new amenities while being able to enjoy all the outdoor activities one wants to do--even if that activity is taking a book to the beach and having a nap. The house is ideally suited for multi-generational family groups with two large ensuite master bedrooms, and two additional bedrooms and a bath all on one floor. There is plenty of room to spread out with an open floor plan from kitchen to living room and a den that can be used as one of the bedrooms or a TV retreat room. There are two screened in porches front and back. There is plenty of closet space so the things you bring need not take up your living space. We also do not charge extra for cleaning and provide the linens, towels (bath & beach), beach chairs, cooler, umbrellas, and even toys. We want to make it your vacation less of a hassle and that you will find with our home. It is set up the way we would want a house to be.

Great house in nice neighborhood
This is a wonderful house for a group and their dogs! Bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, living area and kitchen have everything one could need, and porches are great. Quick walk to the beach and just a short drive to historic area. I would definitely return to this house and highly recommend it to others!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Great getaway cottage for the family.
The house was perfect. 350 steps to beach. Easy drive to everything. Sunsets were amazing..We even took car drive to see Sunrise It was everything they said it was. We had a ball from Sun Up to Sun Down.
This is the fifth time that I have stayed in Beach Plum Cottage and I now view it as my home away from home. It is immaculate, has all the amenities that you could ask for, the beds and the furniture are very comfortable and three bathrooms are a luxury. The house is very close to the beach, shopping and restaurants and a short ride to Victorian Cape May and Wildwood.
Cape May Caper
We loved the house, perfect for family & doggie vacation week. Loved the porches and equipment provided, from beach chairs to towels to sand toys.
Best place I ever stayed at
I love this home! Everything was there. Many Thick fluffy beach towels. Toys for kids at the beach. Beach chairs and umbrella. The kitchen was so well stocked including many spices. Because I cooked most days, I was in heaven! The beds were all very comfortable. The two twin beds were very large. Even adults would be comfortable sleeping in them. I hope I’ll be approved to stay again
The Cape May area is one of the most beautiful seashore destinations on the East Coast. The entire City of Cape May is designated as a National Historic Landmark full of charming Victorian Era homes. Cape May has numerous high-end restaurants for gourmet dining and even more for great basic yet fantastic meals--everything from hoagies to fish dinners. The shopping in the area spans all genres from beach gear and nature-oriented finds to fine art and artisan jewelry--and much more. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry has excursions to Lewes, DE where outlet shopping is close by. Not only that, the ferry has many entertainment events for the entire family onboard and at the terminal throughout the season. For the fisherman/woman there are many charter boats available and many beaches allow for surf fishing. Bring your own bikes to cycle around the area or rent them. There are trolley tours and horse drawn carriage rides to take in the town. If you like wine--Cape May County has quite a few award-winning wineries with tours and tastings. For children, naturally there are the days spent on the beach. At night a 20 minute ride north to Wildwood takes you to world-class amusement piers. Children will also like the numerous nature-oriented activities available in the area--start with Cape May Lighthouse State Park where there is a free and interesting sea life museum. And if they are able--climb the lighthouse for panoramic views. The free Cape May Zoo is a walker-friendly zoo with lovely attractions and lots of animals. There's also a playground located in the same area. Speaking of nature and animals, Cape May is world-famous for its bird watching opportunities. Twice a year (spring and fall) brings untold numbers of species of shorebirds, songbirds, and raptors in their migration. Also many birds are found year-round. And butterflies love Cape May County. At the Lighthouse State Park, as just one example of the many places for ideal bird watching, there are platforms for viewing. These platforms usually have knowledgeable folks from the Cape May Bird Observatory on hand who are always happy to answer your questions. There are also trails there for discovery at your pace. Cox Hall Wildlife Management Park (formerly the Ponderlodge Golf Course) in the Villas is a haven for dozens of species of birds, mammals, frogs, turtles, etc. The park is easy to walk with paved paths. The animals get to thrive in this environment that includes, forests, meadows, ponds, and a lake which is stocked with fish (license needed to fish). Other entertainment can be found at the many bars and restaurants that feature live music. The area towns often feature music festivals as well. There is a 12 theater movie house a few miles away in Rio Grande as well as local live theater productions. The area has many interesting and unique areas to discover. The beaches are beautiful and the Atlantic Ocean sparkles. All of the checked-off activities in this listing are available in the area.
