Just as described, only a little better!
We loved our time at Greg hut. It was incredibly private and quiet. We appreciated being away from the crowds in Tulum. Mary Cruz was available to answer any questions we had while we were down there. We'll be back!
Kate and Co.,
Thank you kindly for your review! We enjoyed hosting and would love to welcome you again. Best wishes this new year! Erica and MaryCruz
Great alternative, and better value, than beachfront crowds
Situated in a gated community in the jungle with no other houses in site. The hut was clean, plenty of hot water and towels and an excellent 'get away from it all' location. Communication was excellent. Close to the Grand Cenotes and a short drive to Tulum and the beach a little further. It's an excellent option if you want seclusion and you want to avoid the people and tourist ($$$) restaurants in the hotel zone. The better value places where the locals eat were in the town. Parking in the hotel zone is extremely limited (even some of the restaurants don't have parking) so go to the public beach near the Mayan ruins although arrive early so you can park and visit the ruins at the same time. For easier access to swimming, we drove up the coast to Akumal. A little crowded but great beach with palm trees for shade, good value restaurants and a calm sea.
A getaway like no other
This is truly a little hut in the jungle, but it comes in a safe environment with wonderful amenities. Outside you can sit at a little table and watch the jungle grow and the birds and butterflies flit around. You truly feel away from it all, but it is just a short drive to the heart of artsy Tulum and even closer to the Gran Cenote. This was the epitome of a romantic getaway including a lovely lightening show. My husband demanded only one thing when I was booking our trip. He wanted air conditioning. This little hut has it, and so much more. It was such a unique experience to stay here. We definitely recommend it.
We're so touched by your review! Thank you so much for your kind words, Georgeanne.
A wonderful house away from the noise!
My wife and I came to Tulum to see some Mayan ruins and do some snorkelling, so we wanted a place to stay that was a quiet retreat from the city - and this was exactly what we were looking for! It's in a great location, just 15 minutes from Tulum. It is back in a gated community, so we felt very safe.
We sat outdoors on the patio and enjoyed seeing birds and butterflies.
We were able to make a couple dinners using the kitchen, but we had to get creative as there was one small cutting board and no pan for the oven. But we had all we needed for making stove top and microwave meals.
Very comfortable bed and the air conditioning was very welcomed after a long day of hiking and snorkeling. We would definitely recommend staying here for any length of time if you prefer to get away from the crowds.
We stayed at The Greg Hut for 3 days at the end of December. Mary was our initial contact and arranged everything for us and was available to receive our texts the minute we landed. Ociel met us at the gate of the property and showed us around the hut, he also drove us into Tulum as we had some minor problems with our rental car. This treatment was above and beyond anything that we expected; he treated us like old friends! The hut itself was clean with everything that was advertised. We were also treated to a basket of fruit and snacks as well as enough drinking water for our stay. There was also coffee, some food items and alcohol left from previous visitors, we paid it forward by leaving beer in the fridge. We stayed at our hut for the full three days and simply relaxed and enjoyed the absolute peace. Every morning we sat for hours at the picnic table and read and took pictures of the bugs, lizards, butterflies and mammals. We also went on many walks throughout the property. We saw over 30 Coatimundi's, many agouti's and of course our favourite the monkeys. There is no cell coverage unless you walk out to the road and there are no activities, this is a place to relax and visit with people face to face. We greatly enjoyed our experience. If you want to deviate from the all- inclusive resorts this is a good change. We did a little of both to keep everyone happy.
What a cool place!
This is a very nice, high quality, well furnished hut in a gated/secluded community in the jungle!! What an experience! My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights here while adventuring in Tulum. The property is a short drive (~10 min) from Tulum but I would say that renting a car (not a scooter or a bicycle) is a must. This property is conveniently located between most of the Cenotes that Tulum has to offer and the Cenotes were the absolute best experience we had in Tulum. Ociel, the property technician, was incredibly helpful and speaks perfect English just in case you are not caught up on your Spanish. The rental includes access to the community center which has a pool and other nice amenities. Be sure to tour the community and check out the wildlife, it is amazing. While we're talking about wildlife, I should mention that this is the jungle and there will be a variety of bugs roaming about. We found three inside the hut and were able to deal with it. If you cannot handle a few bugs this is not the place for you. We were pleased to find some beer, vodka, and juice in the fridge which helped us wind down after our day of travel. Overall we highly recommend this place to adventure seekers, Cenote hoppers, couples, and small parties.
We left a Tulum guide book on the table and a small fiesta in the fridge for future tenants to enjoy ;)
