This luxurious house has been fully refurbished and offers a great combination of traditional features and modern comfort. Tastefully decorated with antiques and family objects, it makes no concessions on equipment. Located in the heart of the Parc Naturel Regional du Haut Languedoc, this village house combines the facilities of living in the centre and the luxury of a 500 m2 garden. Set in the middle of century-old forests, it also has 2 lakes in a radius of 5 km where you can swim fish, sail, water bike and go water skiing. We have our own windsurf (with a big board: ideal for children to play for hours, even without the sail). The immediate surroundings also offer golf, canyoning, horse riding, donkey riding, mountain biking and several cultural places (churches, Museum of Protestantism, castles, and remarkable landmarks). The two closest larger towns (Castres and Mazamet) have ample shopping even though the village of Angles is conveniently equipped with a bakery, butcher, groceries store (including amazing fresh veggies in the summer), bar, restaurant, post office and tourist information. During the summer, a market takes place twice a week, and brings local arts and crafts along with honey producers, lamb butcher, sheep dairies, organic vegetables, and many others.
The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a "souillarde" (the service room next to the garden).
The ground floor is at street level: the front door leads into the entry hall (with a ceiling hand-painted by my great-grand-mother). On the right side is the kitchen, fully equipped with refrigerator, freezer, washing machine, dish-washer, double zinc, micro-wave oven, traditional oven, electrical cooking plaques, Nespresso coffee machine, water boiler and a very complete set of tools (we both love cooking!). The kitchen table comfortably seats 6 adults or can squeaze 8! We generally to serve the kids first and then have a relaxed dinner between adults. On the left of the hall is the living room: it has 2 sofas (3-seat and 2-seat), a lounging chair and a couple of other chairs and stools) and seats 6-8 persons. We have a TV with a few children DVDs, a piano and a guitar, and a box with plenty of games (chess, quizz, drawing sets,...). The wooden staircase leads to the first floor.
The first floor has the master bedroom, with a 180x200 bed and double duvets. The room is warmly decorated with Designer's Guild wallpaper and has an old chimney with a beautiful trompe-l'oeil also hand-painted by my great-grand-mother. There's ample space to put your clothes in a 120x200 closet. The second bedroom is the children dormitory: a triple bunk bed (90x180), and two 1,5 place "princess" beds (110x180). (Funny side story: my great-great-grand-parents used to sleep in one of them!). The bedroom has also plenty of comic books for children: from Mickey Mouse Journal to the History of France! The first floor bathroom has a shower, toilet, zinc and an old and very deep bath with lion feet: ideal to relax after a walk!
The second floor has 2 very large bedrooms (both >20 m2) each equipped with a 160x200 bed and double duvets. Bedroom 3 also has a toddler bed (80x120), a 120x200 closet and a set of drawers. The room also has a massive bookcase filled with books in French, English and Dutch (and a whole set in latin). Bedroom 4 also has a single bed (100x180), a 150x220 closet and a table and chair. The second floor bathroom has a shower, toilet and zinc.
All main duvets and pillows are organic and anti-allergic. A foldable baby cot is also available, as well as baby backpack, baby feeding chair, baby plates and cutlery,…
From the first floor another stairs leads to the souillarde which opens on the garden. The garden offers a 500 m2 grass and a terrace with a teak table and chairs seating 12 persons, 2 parasols as well as 2 sails protecting the table from the sun. There is a Weber 57cm charcoal BBQ with a Firestarter for convenient grilling. A slide and slings will keep the kids busy. At the back of the garden, a walk path leads to two tennis courts from the city hall: freely accessible and only 20m from our garden, and of course, we have 4 tennis rackets and a whole basket of balls if you want to get serious about it! We also have a set of golf clubs if you feel like playing at one of the clubs in Castres or Mazamet, and a mountain/city bike.
This house has always been a holiday house for family and friends. It is ideal for 2-3 families, depending on the composition, and up to 12 people. Beyond that number, we feel that you cannot really enjoy the privacy and comfort that the house has to offer.
