Overblown advertising, very uncomfortable
The owners seemed to be inexperienced with renting properties and detailing what they actually provide. Interestingly, I see they have altered a few of the online descriptions since our stay. The stay was for myself, my husband, and our 5 yr old.
Wifi worked sporadically and not with the password provided but by piggybacking off other local services. The internet never worked at all. The refrigerator was a camping plastic box with frozen blocks inside. Self catering meals would not be possible given the actual facilities, even if there were space.
Originally, the listing said it sleeps 6; now it says sleeps 4. Even with that alteration, 4 children might be able to handle it. Not 4 adults, not without great discomfort. Wooden benches line the walls of the lodge. The "beds", if you can call them that, were an added plank-width to the original bench in 4 locations, very short (I'm just over 5 ft and I was too long), not as wide as a sleeping bag, and the added planks each supported by a 2x4 that was not properly fixed to the floor. We slept very badly.
The owners describe the lodge as "deceptively spacious". It is not. If anything, it is deceptively small. It doesn't help that they overfilled the lodge, unlike shown in the photos, with knickknacks and stools and candles and paraphernalia, plus 3 animal skin rugs on the floor that shed hair copiously.
The bathing facilities were different than advertised. Again, I see this has been altered in online description since we left. It was described as a toilet and bathing facilities within walk of the lodge, attached to the house. In actuality, it was a toilet and sink inside the main house, through a back entrance which you had to walk around a 4 ft drop wall, and no showering or bathing.
Originally we booked for 3 nights. We only stayed for 2. We could not tolerate the facilities any longer and headed home early.
This is our third year renting out the Reindeer Lodge advertised on a different web site ,where we have 86 massively positive reviews. The lodge is hugely popular with groups and families and is rarely available.
I hardly think that is inexperienced.
I believe this is a classic case of Jean not reading the listing description properly and expecting something totally different.
We did suspect as much when she asked if she needed to bring bedding, which it states we supply.
We have NEVER altered the description , there would be absolutely no advantage in doing so.
The lodge is exactly as described in all listings we have advertised.
There are and always have been, four beds, each six feet long,we can't change that as they convert from the seating. We have NEVER said there are six !!
There is a wash room for the Lodge guests sole use located 30 metres away, with proper toilet ,hot water and wash basin and as described ,no bath or shower.
There is a fridge in the house for guests to store food if required but we also supply a large cold box with ice packs each day ,with all the essentials like milk, juice and butter for the breakfast we provide each morning. There is a kettle and toaster supplied in the lodge with electric heating and lighting but we also have candles and fairy lights for ambience ..This is a fun, alternative, wild, rustic, natural,'swallows and amazons',glamping type of experience in a Reindeer herders hut, not a week end in a country cottage.Every other guest we have had has embraced that ,we are sorry that you couldn't Jean.PLEASE READ THE LISTING DESCRIPTIONS PROPERLY.
