Well travelled Australian transplants, Jenny and Kieran, have enjoyed long careers in science research and maths respectively. While visiting Ireland, they fell in love with the scenery and history and culture and just never left.

Why Owner chose North Tipperary
This estate has a fairy mound and it truly does seem an enchanted place. Though always beautiful, the scenery is constantly changing moods with the light and the weather. You will often find yourself stopped dead in your tracks, (whatever you were doing), by some new, ephemeral quality of the light. A golden ray through a cloud, a rainbow, a sunset over the glittering lake... It is just magic. You will feel moved, as you settle in, to slow down and savor the moment.
What makes this Apartment unique
The mansion is historic and grand, but also fully renovated so you can enjoy the modern comforts, such as wi fi and heated floors. It is truly a luxurious experience.

Amazing experience in the heart of Ireland!
This has been one of the best places I have ever stayed at. The apartment is on the ground floor of this amazing mansion and it has everything you could wish for. I have spent 12 days traveling around Ireland and I can tell you that this is the best shower I have had so far! Very high end furnishings with antiques and lovely curtains. Jenny and Kieran greeted me with a nice pot of tea and scones with jam and were very helpful. I had trouble working the TV remote and they came straight away when I called and fixed the problem. The highlight of my stay, though, was on a walk through the fields overlooking the lake and seeing three deer come out of the forest! They stopped. I stopped. We all just froze for a couple of minutes. They ran off, of course, and I continued my walk to the cute village nearby where I stopped at the local pub. A perfect day.
Thanks for your review, it was a pleasure to have you here. The deer and the red squirrels are certainly an attraction. We have had hedgehogs come up to the front door.
What an Extraordinary Place!
Reading the background provided, you already know just how nice it is, and about the Davises great work in the maintaining and restoring this landmark structure. Lets just say that the semi-pricey rate was MORE THAN justified by the beautiful apt suite, the Slevoir property, and Loch Derg!
I'll address something else; activities nearby. It would seem that this area has limited offerings of tourist-type activities. That may not be true, depending on your interests. Within an easy drive are the cities of Limerick and Kilkenny. Both are worthwhile destinations, with Kilkenny a particular favorite for fans of old architecture and history.
Here are five nearby castles:
*King John's Castle, in Limerick, a pretty good specimen, with nicely structured exhibits that are nevertheless not as good as the best.
*Portumna Castle&Gardens This one was a surprise. Destroyed in the 1820s, it was a shell for well over a century. Restoration of this big country palace (30 chimneys!) has taken decades; the exterior is mostly complete, and it's a jarring transition to go inside and see the fire damage, in the process of restoration. There are many displays that explain the restoration process. We found that fascinating. The Gardens , in development, justified another 20 minutes or so.
*Leap Castle Shaun Ryan owns and is restoring this castle. Contact him to make an appointment if you can, or take a risk and drive over to the Castle north of Roscrea. He might give you a personal tour; be sure and have a lot of questions. He has the answers. And also be sure and make a donation to his Building Fund.
*Clonony Castle, East of Shannonbridge Owner/restorer Rebecca Armstrong is a former ballerina full of stories. Ask her about the small castle's connection to Anne Boleyn, the Indiana Jones movies, her work as a stonemason, the ghost and more. Schedule a tour on Facebook. A donation to her Building Fund will be appreciated, too; she is dealing with nature, bureaucracy and masonry mostly by herself.
* Last, and maybe most amazing is Birr Castle. Currently the residence of the Seventh Earl of Rosse, William Parsons. These Earls have been MAJOR figures in Science/Techology. Search for "The Great Birr Telescope" (it's there!) & read the full story of the "Turbinia" and its cheeky disruption of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. NOT a typical castle/manor home. Great guided tours (grounds, 1 floor) sometimes available; check ahead.
There's lots to do...
It was a delight to meet Tom and Marie and they were excellent guests. They were very kind to share the information on the nearby sights.
Looking Forward to Our Next Visit
What a wonderful time and stay we had at the Slevior House in Tipperary. Jenny and Kieran were more than hospitable and made us feel right at home. The estate is absolutely beautiful and fully equipped with all the comforts of home. We would definitely love to return in the near future!
Mary and Daniel were lovely guests who let us know when they were arriving and left the retreat clean and tidy. I would thoroughly recommend them to other hosts.
Beautiful countryside home.
What a great retreat! Our group loved our time here. The home is very comfortable, beautifully decorated and on a lovely 100 acres. Walking paths were awesome...make sure you ask for a tour of the tunnel!!! The caretakers made our stay even better ...they are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Two Great pubs just 1mile away both with great food. The time went by too fast...cant wait till our next visit.
We had a lovely stay at Slevoir House which is very impressive. Jenny and Kieran were super hosts.
We had a very nice time in Terryglass. The house was very impressive and it was very kind of Jenny to show us also the areas that were not part of the apartment. We also spend a couple of nice evenings with Jenny and Kieran who are well travelled, interesting people. The house itself is very old and consequently has some faults of which Jenny and Kieran were aware of and are constantly trying to fix and improve. There was water damage in the bathroom which made the flat smell mouldy, but they are aware of that and by keeping the front door open in warm weather, which we were lucky to have lots of, it wasn't that bad. The decor of the flat is very nice.
The local area is also very nice, but it is better to have a car to get around. It is about an hour drive to Galway and Limerick. It takes two hours to get to the Cliffs of Moher which are very impressive! In Terryglass itself there are two lovely pubs. Nenagh is close by and so is Portumna which has a forest area that is lovely to walk in.
Overall we had a nice and relaxing time! Thank you
Fantastic stay at a gorgeous location
What a wonderful weekend! The setting was idyllic and the accommodations were gorgeous. We had a fabulous time and would definitely stay again. I'm extremely particular about cleanness and I have nothing but praise.
Thanks so much! You were a great first guest. We so enjoyed your visit.
