About the property

Victorian Home Away For Families, Artists, Beach Lovers.

I'm creating the Ocean Grove Victorian home of my dreams--artsy, functional, down to earth--and want to share it.

5 blocks from the beach, and 2 from downtown.

4 beach passes and an all terrain wagon included

Pet friendly

"duplex twin apt" built in 1904, with Victorian charm. The other half of the house is separately owned.

Rooms are spacious by OG standards--generally 10 x 12.

First floor: porch, living room, dining room (table for 8), coat closet, fully stocked kitchen (table for 2-3), small bathroom with shower, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee makers (french press and automatic).

There's a small backyard with a gas barbecue.

Second floor: one bedroom has a queen bed and access to porch; a second room has a double bed; a "library" has two twin beds*; bathroom with a huge tub

Third floor is an artist's attic, 10'x 25', with a 15' window and window seats, two twin beds, Playmobil and Brio trains in the closet! Board games.

* two twins are trundles with 5" deep memory foam mattresses, not cheap cot or thin; in the attic they can be put together with king size sheets

Great for one or two families with kids, or 2-3 couples--it can sleep 6.

About Allison Moore

I bought this as a weekly retreat to sustain work as an Episcopal priest, currently serving as interim in NYC.

I am amazed that I can actually walk five minutes to get to the beach--offseason it's cold, full of shells, and sometimes surfers. I'm having fun setting up the house for my daughters and I, doing art projects.

Allison Moore purchased this house in 2016

Why Allison Moore chose Ocean Grove

I've always wanted a Victorian house; this one was built around 1880 and has slanted floors, pocket doors, built in china closet, etc.. I have Methodist roots (grew up in the United Methodist Church, went to B.U. for a Ph.D. in religious studies), and I have good friends who already live here. It's 90 minutes from NYC by train or car (depending on traffic). I'm just starting to explore Asbury Park, with lots of restaurants and shops and art, and to the south more residential towns of Bradley Beach, Belmar, Avon by the Sea.

What makes this house unique

the attic is amazing--15 feet of windows!

two porches (I'm working on how to hang swings),

enough space so I can retire here comfortably, but close enough to NYC area where I will likely work for the next 15 years--I set up stained glass supplies and one daughter set up her easel, the other wants to surf.

Ocean Grove itself is very friendly, and very safe for kids on bicycles.

Relaxing week, great location

  • 5 of 5

The house was very comfortable to stay in and had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped and we were able to cook some nice meals for ourselves. The location is excellent - everything is an easy walk - the beach, the cute shops in Ocean Grove, the boardwalk in Asbury Park, even a strip mall with a bagel place and nail salon! There are lots of restaurants in the area and a lot of beach and cute towns to explore. On a rainy day we had the outlet mall nearby. The house is very cozy and comfortable no matter what the weather is like.

A perfect Ocen Grove eacape

  • 5 of 5

Allison's home is beautiful and she is a pleasure to work with. It's as if you are 'coming home'. All the amentities you need, spacious, 2 beautiful porches, a quiet street and minutes from the beach. It's our 3rd visit and we will be back.

Great property, older building

  • 4 of 5

We had so much fun at our stay, but the one thing was the house was in bad shape and built poorly. The toilet flooded the top floor bathroom and leaked through the light fixture down into the kitchen. Other then that it was a pleasure

Owner's Response: Aieee, it's never fun to stay someplace where the toilet clogs. Older houses have their charm and their problems---the house is actually pretty well built and in pretty good shape for 140 years old. The plumbing is much more recent, but it still is more restricted in what can be flushed than many modern homes. In time I hope to modernize, but this is the first toilet clog since I bought the house, and I hope, with some care, it will be the last!

Charming and Convenient!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful spot for our group of girls to relax and share wine and conversation! We stayed here over the weekend while running races in nearby Asbury Park. It was very close to the beach, and also an easy walk to Asbury Park shopping and restaurants. We loved having the opportunity to gather in the sitting room and also around the dining table rather than staying in different hotel rooms. The beds are comfortable and the decor is quaint. We would definitely stay again, or refer to friends and family. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Charming Beach Home Perfect for Weekend

  • 5 of 5

This property is beautiful and has everything you need for a perfect vacation! Allison is a fantastic host, and is very accommodating. The home is comfortable, welcoming, well-furnished and was perfect for 8 adults. The home has everything you need (linens, towels, dishware, cooking utensils, pots/pans, etc.) We very much enjoyed staying here and can't wait to book our next trip!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you--this is my goal! There is now a space heater in the attic too, because heat doesn't get up that far in the winter. Winter at the ocean has its own beauty.

Beach--four beach passes included! Quiet boardwalk, wide beach, Great Auditorium with wonderful concerts. Ocean Grove downtown shopping, ice cream, bistros, and restaurants; see Chamber of Commerce website for summer events. Check out Asbury Park for more nightlife, restaurants, carousel. Walk everywhere--no hills, Victorian houses, water on 3 sides of the town, many churches (and no liquor stores within "God's Square Mile," a legacy of it's Methodist heritage, but plenty of them less than 5 minutes away). Sea Grass is the relatively upscale restaurant in town that allows you to bring your own wine.

Jersey Shore Premium Outlets are by Exit 100 on Garden State Parkway; 15 minutes from Ocean Grove. Wegman's is an amazing supermarket about 10 minutes away, with gourmet food, bulk food, table and kitchen ware, liquor store, and an elevated toy train. Costco is close too, and many shopping centers with Target, Michael's, PetSmart, etc. Movie Theater in Monmouth Mall, about 20 minutes away
