3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, In The Mountains, On The Lake, Big Creek Area
About Joanne Geveshausen
My husband and I both grew up in the Midwest. We met in Minneapolis, MN and married in February, 1984, moving to Kentucky in August of that same year. There we had three sons, but our love for the lakes (Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes) kept our thoughts of heading back that way percolating in the recesses of our minds. However, we discovered Norris Lake back in 2000, and the rest, as the saying goes, is history. We have made many memories here with friends and family over the years. We nurtured a vision of growing our slice of paradise so we could share this area with other lake-lovers and have been fortunate enough to make that dream a reality. We now offer three cottages here in the Big Creek area of Norris Lake and have spent a tremendous amount of time and energy making this a family-friendly place for you to come to year after year! From the awesome swim/boat dock, pontoon boats, kayaks, to the decks and fire pit, SEAS THE DAY is a great place from which to enjoy the lake. We are confidant that you never tire of the beauty in and around Norris Lake. It is a feast for the eyes! Additionally, East TN is a HUGE play ground. Not only does is it home to one of the prettiest lakes, but there acres and acres of land dedicated to hiking, four-wheeling, hunting, biking and horseback riding. The outdoor enthusiast has a cornucopia of options! C'mon and enjoy!
Joanne Geveshausen purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Joanne Geveshausen chose Jacksboro
We choose this area not only because of its proximity to I75 and to town, but also for its privacy, its peace and quiet, and feeling of getting away from it all. The fact that the cabin is on a dead end lane lends itself to those qualities. There are two marinas in close proximity to SEAS THE DAY. They are Indian River Marina and Whitman Hollow marina. This end of the lake has a plethora of coves to hang out in, rocks to climb and jump off of,and rope swings. It offers nice and smooth areas to ski or tube, and plenty of places to dangle a fishing line. At night, the star-studded sky is something to behold. It is my humble opinion that it doesn't get much better than this!
What makes this Cottage unique
As a guest here, you will really enjoy the night sky, the summer night sounds of crickets, owls, cicada bugs, the sun coming over the mountain in the morning, the swim area, the fire pit, the decks, the dock, the peace and quiet....I could go on and on. Additionally, it is conveniently located close to town. Food-city and super Wal-mart are approx 5 minutes away. Lowe's, Wal-Green's, CVS, hospital, Liquor barn, etc., all are nearby. If you have to make a beer run or an ice-cream run, it won't eat up much of your day, where you really need to be out on the lake!

Cozy waterfront cottage perfect for relaxation
We chose this property for the direct water access and it did not disappoint. The covered boat slip and dock were great for laying out, swimming, fishing, and just enjoying the view. Yes there are a lot of steps, but we were all surprised that is was no big deal. The cottage is tucked away and has that private, leave the regular world behind feeling, yet it was walking distance to the marina and only about 5-10 minutes from restaurants and shopping. The layout is great with 2 bedrooms on main level and a super cool efficiency unit on the lower level that we affectionately called "The Grandma Suite." We took my mom along and this was her space and she enjoyed having her own bath and mini kitchen. Each morning, she could make her own coffee and enjoy sipping it from her private balcony overlooking the water. We also brought our teen children and a friend for each if them. We enjoyed various water activities and appreciated boat rentals available through our host, Joanne. We all took turns making dinner and found the kitchen was well appointed. There is no dishwasher so we elected to use paper products and that worked well. On the one rainy day, we explored Knoxville which was only about 40 minutes away. Evenings were spent playing games together. This is a great space with a phenomenal location.
I think any family would really enjoy it.
We really enjoyed our stay at this home. It is really close to I 75 (15 minutes),which is an advantage because we can be on the lake from Cincinnati in 4 hours. It is also very close to Indian River Marina, a 5 minute boat ride from the house in a no wake zone. We would get ice every morning and then head out for the day. The property owner JoAnne and manager Linda were very responsive to our needs and addressed any concerns we had. The only thing my husband and I struggled with was the bed. We had a full bed and even though it listed on the website so it wasn't a surprise, it didn't fit our needs. My husband is 6'5 and his feet hung off the bed by 5 inches. I ended up sleeping on the couch upstairs. Again, that wasn't the home owners fault, just something we will need to be aware of in the future. The lower level is more like a little hotel suite. It had a full bath, and a little kitchen area. The deck off the bedroom was really nice. Overall, we all had a great time! Looking forward to our next stay.
Clean and cozy cabin on the lake
Overall everything was excellent, very clean and cozy space to relax with our two golden doodles. The lake level was very high due to a lot of recent rain, so accessing the water for the dogs wasn’t possible for us as they don’t jump off the dock and have to be able to walk into the water.
We had arranged for Joanne (owner) to take us on a pontoon ride and she went above & beyond to find us a good place for the dogs to swim (she even brought us some home grown veggies from her garden!). FYI, if you want to rinse your dogs off after a swim in the lake, there is no hose outside or handheld shower inside (but we found a watering can that worked okay and there is a hose at their sister cabin next door that was offered).
We enjoyed sitting in the very comfy sectional sofa in what looks to be an addition facing the lake, the pups loved looking out the windows at the woods, smelling the new scents and guarding the house from squirrels!
The kitchen is outfitted with most of what you’d need for cookware and dishes/silverware, but bring any plastic wrap or foil (we forgot, but no biggie, there are stores very nearby).
The house is on part of the lake that does get a fair amount of boat traffic (both from skiers and those heading to the nearby marina), so be aware for children or pups that there may be a wake when they are in the water.
We didn’t spend a lot of time on the dock, it would have been nice to have a couple of lounge type chairs available in addition to the resin chairs there.
Lake Norris is beautiful and there is so much to explore, we only saw a very small part of it. Would definitely return and maybe check out the sister cabin next time for something different.
Great Lake place for a relaxing weekend!
Loved this property. Very clean and comfortable. May need some additional pot/pans but would definitely stay at this property again. The outdoor living was fantastic! There are many steps to the lake so not great place for guests with mobility concerns.
Home was clean and well taken care of. Owner was easy to contact.’it was a lovely weekend until my outdrive had issues. Other than my boat issues I loved this place.
Very easy , great communication with the owner.
