About Gail Serene
I have lived in Cayucos since 1985. I raised my 3 children here. I work locally in San Luis Obispo as a Labor and Delivery nurse. I really enjoy the beautiful area we live in. Outdoor activities are numerous, from kayaking, surfing, bikeriding, walking on the beach, hiking... you name it!
Why Gail Serene chose Cayucos
What's really great about this house is it's so close to all that Cayucos has to offer. You can hang out in Cayucos and never get in your car. Or, if you want, you are 5 miles from Morro Bay, 13 miles from Cambria and 20 from Hearst Castle. San Luis Obispo is "the big city" nearby which is only 20 miles south on Highway One. About 40 minutes north on Hwy 1 is the beginning of the famed Big Sur area.

Beautiful house, great location!!
The house had everything we needed for a relaxing few days in Cayucos; comfy beds, great kitchen, relaxed atmosphere. Short walk away from the beach, shops, restaurants.
Clean accommodations but lack of window treatments in bedroom was a little disconcerting. Location was great for walking and beach access
Bright & Airy Beach Getaway
This is a great rental house! Bright, airy, quiet, walking distance to the beach and fun shops/restaurants. The decor and amenities make you feel like you're at home. Gail (our host) was friendly and accommodating.
Gail’s house was so well appointed, so charming and so comfortable.
Gail’s house was so well appointed, so charming and so comfortable. We loved our stay there. Gail was so generous and kind. She had beautiful flowers for us and a great package of freshly baked cookies from the local bakery. The home was clean and so well stocked it was as though I lived there myself. The beds were comfortable. There were games in the cupboard that we played. There were just so many extras, too many to name. The house was walking distance to the beach and right down the street from an amazing farm to table restaurant with the most incredible bakery attached to it. It’s a gorgeous town with so much to do so close by. We will be back for sure. You definitely want to book this place.
Great place and great host
Very much enjoyed our stay at Gail's house. We would certainly come again!
The home was so cute with lots of character! It was great to be able to pop a couple windows open and enjoy the cool breeze while listening to music through the speakers. The beds were not very comfortable and the sheets smelled like old water and dust?.. best way I could describe it.. other than that it was a great stay! Very chill and perfect for a few of us young people.
The property is located on the Central Coast of California in one of the last true small beach towns. William Randolph Hearst's famous Hearst Castle is just 20 minutes north on the acclaimed Highway 1 in California. Just north of the castle, moving on up Hwy 1, you get into the renowned Big Sur area. Plenty of hiking, great restaurants, small music venues, and awesome views of the coastline. Surf at Sand Dollar beach or just beachcomb for Big Sur jade at Jade Cove.
Then, just 5 miles south of Cayucos is Morro Bay which has a harbor and a bay. Sailing, kayaking, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, shopping...the famous Morro Rock is standing tall at the water's edge at the mouth of the harbor. Deep sea fishing is also available. Morro Bay is also a bird estuary and has a beautiful 18 hole golf course which overlooks the bay and estauary!
Montana de Oro is located south of Morro Bay about 15 minutes, with wonderful hiking trails!
"Over the hill" is wine country. The Paso Robles Wine Region is up and coming and rivaling Napa/Sonoma in quality. Wine tasting abounds with plenty of tours offering safe driving.
But there is really no need to go anywhere if you just want to relax in Cayucos. The house is literally a 3 minute walk from the small downtown area of Cayucos. The newly rebuilt pier is a great place to watch surfers, fish for some local catches, or just watch the waves come in. Antiques shops and restaurants are an easy walk. Get some good inexpensive food at the little restaurant behind the gas station, or a smoked fish taco at Rudell's Smokehouse. Rent boogie boards, surfboards, standup paddle boards at the two local surfshops. All of this is literally a 3 minute walk from this house! Long walks on the beach is an option for anytime of the day, sunrise to sunset, full moon...Cayucos boasts one of the best beaches for this. On a low tide you could literally walk to Morro Rock on the beach the whole way. Or ride one of the beach cruisers provided by the owner.
This really an awesome place to visit and a great location to stay while visiting!
