Dondies cottage, Port Uairk, Ardnamurchin.
Dilemma? If we give a rave review , we reduce the possibility of getting a repeat booking for a location we would very much like to return to! Say no more .
Ideal Wee Cottage
My 4th visit to Dondies. Such a lovely little cottage in a perfect location. So peaceful and the views are gorgeous, changing several times per day depending on the weather. If you like quiet, gorgeous scenery and a lovely wee cottage then you'll love this place.
Dondies is a cosy 'retreat' in the most idyllic setting - thank you for the perfect holiday!
Dondies is clean, compact and comfortable, within minutes walk of the beautiful, rugged coast and with truly magnificent views. I've loved Portuairk since we first went there, but this was our first trip to Dondies and we loved it so much that we booked next year's holiday to come back, even before we left to go home. Steading Holidays have been very helpful with our booking arrangements.
We were blessed with warm sunshine throughout the week (in late May) but I would have loved the holiday in any weather. The clear blue sky every day was perfect ... but I find wild and stormy weather just as much fun. It was too warm to use the wood burner but it would have made a winter break even more cosy.
Our young son accompanied us (he slept on the sofa which he found very comfortable) and swam in the sea several times a day ... with a wet suit as the water is just that bit chilly! He met up with old friends - children from another family who also come to Portuairk on the same week each year. My husband enjoyed some quiet reading, photography, rambling along the coast and watching the seals and other wildlife. My 'thing' was sitting on the patio, gazing at the islands, writing, drawing and drinking the occasional cappuccino (I brought the milk-frother with me but thank you for providing a cafetiere!)
This really was the perfect holiday for all of us. The ONLY problem was the departure - leaving such a beautiful place is hard. We all had heavy hearts and were very quiet in the car as we left, soaking up the last moments of breathtaking views as we drove through the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Still, it's now less than 345 days until we're back (not that I'm counting!!) : - )
Thank you again for letting us stay in this little bit of heaven on earth!
A peaceful interesting stay in a stunning location where wild landscape met changing seascape. Wonderful!
Peace perfect peace
A glorious location in a truly beautiful corner of Scotland. And a comfortable cottage.
Be warned that the road from the Corran ferry is slow (but spectacular and enjoyable) and seems to go on for ever. That's both good and bad. Good because the isolation of Ardnamurchan is a real plus. Bad because it reduces your daily options to the locality (but there's plenty to see and do), the ferry to Tobermory (lovely crossing, but not cheap) or a long drive (a day trip to Mallaig or Fort William - but why? - will involve 2+2=4 hours in the car).
The week was total pleasure, and a real rest.
A little, lovely , well equipped house . Fantastic views . Just loved it all . Great walks from the front door . Can’t imagine a better place to spend a week . Have previously stayed next door in Mary’s House . They are places I will always return to . Both highly recommended.
