Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, two bath with open floor plan in living area

First Light is at the head of the Sakonnet River and runs south to Martha's Vineyard sound. Sunlight reflecting off of the sea floods the spacious living area, rippling on the walls and ceiling. Sailing from our guest mooring to Sachuest Point and a visit to the Norman Bird Sanctuary before heading further south to the Islands is quick with a good breeze. Our mooring accommodates up to a 20' vessel.

First Light packs a lot in a small package. Main living area on second floor leads out to a large wood deck, which is 11' above high tide mark. Making for a nice vantage point to view the only traffic you'll have to concern yourself with, boat traffic. Comfortable, inviting and casual is the theme throughout the home. Like clockwork, everyday around 130/2pm, the Narragansett breezes start out of the Southeast. The casement windows are crank out and set in just the right spot, are great for capturing a cool breeze to flow through the entire house. Keeping things cool in the evening. Each room has a ceiling fan and there are portable's as well. We'd rather enjoy the sounds of the outdoors than get an ac. If you're looking for a vacation home that is therapeutic, relaxing and peaceful, this is the place that will take you there. If you're looking for a vacation home to reconnect you to nature, the earth and the ocean, just walking through the front door and you'll know you've arrived. I've lived here for six years and every day Mother Nature paints a picture more beautiful than the last. I do hope you get to explore and enjoy this special natural habitat. Blue heron frequent a little tidal pond at low tide, just feet from the deck. Narragansett Bay and Mt. Hope Bay's water quality improves each year. We swim safely and securely behind the house. Its great with water sandles. Bring your tire tubes, anchor and create a little family floatilla.

The tide rises to our small boat ramp off the lawn, which can accommodate small water craft. Low tide exposes 100 yards of the river rock shore line. Sandals or water shoes are recommended for a more enjoyable experience, and the west side of our peninsula has a sandy bottom for a romantic, sunset stroll.

Three bedrooms on the third floor with east and west decks for fabulous views of sunrise on the Sakonnet River or sunset on the Mt. Hope Bay. There is also a twin bed that can be set up in the master bedroom to accommodate one. Stunning views of three bridges and if you look straight up at night, the Milky Way.

The yard is large enough for frisbee and lawn darts. Your children can enjoy the yards swingset and a full playground is a short walk away. Inside family fun with plenty of board and table games. Scrabble, several different Trivia Pursuits, Jenga, Domino's, cards, Parcheesi< Scattergories, Mad Grab and more.

Dining destinations are from five to thirty minutes away. It's like the United Nations of gastronomic delight in our area. From healthy to heart stopping, we've got it all. Tiverton's BoatHouse (5 min), Bristol's Oyster Bar, DeWolf and Pomodoro. (10 min) Or head north to Fall River for Portuguese. Warren has several great restaurants and a jewel of live theater, Second Story Theater is always fun entertainment. We have a file of all our favorite restaurants for your perusing.

Why Gary Wilson chose Portsmouth

I went looking at another house down the street, and when I drove to the end of Anthony, a real estate agent was installing a for sale sign on this property. It was run down and needed a lot of repair, which was just what I wanted. It had little rooms and small windows, but I saw what it could be. Now, you have a waterview from every place in the house. New floors, 10 foot windows, new kitchen and bath. To date, my guests have totally enjoyed themselves and wish to return.

Wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and I had a wonderful time at First Light. Gary was very helpful and responsive, gave us a great tip for our first dinner at a local food truck. The house was perfect, clean, welcoming with all the day to day supplies we would need. The peaceful setting on the water however was the best, morning coffee and evening wine on the deck. We will be back!

Charming Home on the Water

  • 5 of 5

We take a girlfriend vacation every year and choose someplace different to experience. When we entered the Waterfront Cottage and climbed the stairs, we were so pleased with the beauty of the home. All the windows looking out over the water provided much light and a breathe taking picture.

The openness of the first floor made conversation easy from any stand point. Three bedrooms on the 2nd floor were great. Bathrooms were very nicely done.

The owner, was very attentive and wanting to please and make sure everything was in order and comfortable. We felt the location worked easily for a day to Plymouth, a day to Providence and a day to Boston. We would highly recommend trying this beauty of a home.

Amazing Views & Great Family Fun!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at First Light while we were celebrating our son's college graduation. This home provided us with a relaxing and peaceful escape when we were not on campus for commencement activities. The open floor plan was very accommodating for a family of seven. Gary was a wonderful host who made sure everything was perfect upon arrival. The home was well stocked with many additions in the kichen; spices, oil and vinegar, foil, ziplock bags to name a few. There was detergent in the laundry room and plenty of hangers in the closets. Gary thought of so many things to help make the stay extra enjoyable. We would love to visit again, my son and his friends suggested future reunions at this beautiful home. Thank you Gary for opening your home to guests.

The grandkids learned to Kayak and dig clams and mussels!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week long stay in this "on the water house" with a well equipped kitchen and big bright windows; the views are great. The neighborhood is very quiet with couples bicycling past the zero traffic road each morning. We felt the grandkids were totally safe indoors and out and it was very quiet. There's even a community playground just down the road. With no AC the 3rd floor bedrooms get a little uncomfortable if there is no breeze but we understand that Gary will be adding that soon.
