About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

This luxury home is located in the exclusive Big Springs area of Northstar and comes with free shuttle service to the Village and access to the Homeowner's Recreation Center. This home has an airy spacious feel with many windows and good sun. We keep the house very clean and in excellent condition.

There is a queen bedroom suite with a full bath on the main floor, upstairs there is a master bedroom with a king bed, a queen bedroom and a 4th bedroom with four bunk beds. Near these two bedrooms there is a full bathroom, a family room with sofa, and a laundry room.

All of the beds in the house have organic wool mattress covers, 100% cotton sheets, fluffy down comforters, and soft down pillows.

The kitchen is open to the large living room with a river rock fireplace, lots of windows, a game cabinet, and a flat screen TV with Bose surround sound, also encased in a cabinet that has doors that close so you can choose to see the TV or not. There is a large deck off of the living room with lounge chairs and a 3 burner propane BBQ.

The kitchen is also open to a large dining room that seats 10 people comfortably.

The kitchen features high end cookware including: 3 stainless steel fry pans, 3 cast iron fry pans, stainless steel pots, stainless steel mixing bowls, 2 stainless steel XL roasting pans (one with a stainless steel roasting rack), a large Emile Henry dutch oven/stewpot, and many ceramic serving platters and bowls. The kitchen has all stainless steel appliances, a giant single bowl sink, and a professional gas Wolf range.

There are 2 air purifiers in the home: one in the master bedroom and one in the living room.

The home features a stunning collection of hand stitched quilts of several different genres. If you are a quilter, you will be in heaven!

In the 2 car garage, there are extra dining chairs and a high chair. You are welcome to pull your cars in and use the garage. Between the garage and the house there is a large mudroom with many coat hooks, abundant shelving for shoes, and a bench.

In the family room there are several baskets of wooden blocks, a large basket of wooden train set pieces, and several Waldorf (Rudolf Steiner) style silks and felted dolls for younger children. All the games in the game cabinet are in good working order with all pieces accounted for.

The house is located on a quiet and private cul-de-sac with open space behind the home. The backyard is level and feels very private.

The Homeowner’s recreation center features several outdoor hot tubs, a large main pool, a children’s pool, a adult lap pool, a gym, game room, and massage therapy is available. There is a very popular tennis center and a gorgeous 18 hole golf course that meanders through Martis Valley and the Mountain. Additionally, Northstar has an extensive set of hiking trails and world class mountain biking.

The shuttle service is one of the best things about staying at Northstar. It is safe, easy, convenient and free. Just call the automated number, enter where you are and it comes within minutes. Older children can easily ride it by themselves. It is very popular and well used among homeowners and guests alike.

The Northstar Resort is a full service area with a new base village that includes a rink (roller skating in the summer, ice skating in the winter), shops and restaurants. (Rental skates are available for a nominal fee). The Northstar resort is very family friendly.

We are only 10 minutes to King's Beach on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. Here you will find beaches, playgrounds, restaurants and shopping. Going the other direction we are 10 minutes from Historic Truckee with great restaurants and shopping. For you dealers in chance, casinos are only 20 minutes away at Incline Village on the Lake.

Something for Everyone

  • 5 of 5

My family of five loved our stay at this lovely home, tucked in the trees. My husband and sons mountain biked every day at Northstar and terrified me daily with their death-defying tales and battle wounds. My daughter and I spent many happy mornings at the NPOA Rec Center Pool, which is about a mile away from the house. We found it very easy to park there in the NPOA lot, or alternatively, to catch the Northstar shuttle from our house and take it down to the Village. My daughter and I loved the roller rink at Northstar, and skated there almost daily. We loved being able to convene at the house every evening for dinner, and barbecued nearly every night we were there. The house was spacious, and with four bedrooms, everyone had their own space to retreat to. The house had excellent Wifi.

Awesome for families!

This was our 3rd year renting this cabin and we love it every time! It's a great house for two families and the house is very well stocked - kitchen, bathrooms, towels, etc. I would highly recommend it.

Excellent Northstar vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We recently had a summer vacation at Lovely Big Springs in Northstar. We loved everything about the house. There is a large, well-stocked kitchen and family room and dining room for gathering. The location is perfect and not far from Northstar's recreation area. The beach is about 10 minutes from the house. We spent many hours on the private deck BBQ'ing and enjoying the serene setting (bring insect repellent). Beautiful hiking is everywhere. The bedrooms are all lovely, especially the master! Very nice furnishings and high ceilings. I highly recommend this house and hope to return again!

What a great place to enjoy!

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect in every way! The contact for renting (Laura)...a pleasure on every contact and on top of every detail. The beds were very comfortable; the living space a delight of comfort as well as quite roomy. We had 10 people staying (6 adults and 4 school age kiddos); the three bathrooms worked out for us (each family had their own bathroom). Great location for the area; the home was clean and well-loved. Our kiddos enjoyed all the "toys" available as well! We had a train track through the upstairs family area into a bedroom. How fun! Kitchen was well equipped. One suggestion...labels on the cabinets for ease in finding what is needed as well as getting everything back in the proper location.

Great house, super well outfitted, can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 4th straight pre-xmas skiing trip with good friends: 4 adults, 4 boys between 10-16. After 4 years, this was the best house! Some of the details (+ = positive, - = negative, <> = neutral)

Overall - we loved it and would look forward to returning! Hope the review helps optimize your stay, but as you can see, not a ton to improve!

Thanks to the hosts for letting us enjoy your house...

+ Very well outfitted! Lots of great kitchen goodies, including french press, good food processor, pots, pans, glasses, coffee mugs, even shot glasses and snifters!

+ Fancy Wolf oven, it works like a regular oven, but it's serious

+ Fireplace & Nest are easy to use for climate control

+ Close to village, higher on the hill

+ 2 big garages for storing cars, skis, etc

+ Laundry room, with all the fixings!

+ Lots of towels, shower supplies included

+ The wifi is fast, some houses have crappy DSL which is pokey & slow, we had adults and kids on tablets, laptops, phones, streamed video; never a complaint!

+ Comfy beds, master suite upstairs, 2 bunk beds upstairs, queen upstairs and queen downstairs

+ nice foyer in front, so get in/out of cold weather gear

+ nice tv in main living room, with blu-ray and surround sound, bring your blu-rays!

<> on our last day, we had a number of power brown outs, it got real annoying and we called the manager, i'm sure it was fixable, but we must have had 10-12 2 second flashes where the entire house lost power

- a bit light on needed kitchen supplies, like oil, sugar, and the like. we ended up buying and leaving for the next guests

- No upstairs climate control (that I could find, and I looked) meant downstairs was cold and upstairs was hot.. never quite got house warmth just right.. most nights had hot and cold patches that were tricky to navigate.

- no TVs in the bedrooms, in fact, just one in the entire house, not a big deal, but worth noting, bring your streaming device :-)

Beautiful home in great location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a week in mid-July. The photos do not do this cabin justice - at all. The main living space is huge, plenty of couches, beautiful fireplace and excellent TV / sound system. The dining room can sit ten comfortably. The kitchen is the best equipped of any rental we have stayed in. Its clear that this is not just a vacation rental, but rather a home that is enjoyed, loved and cared for by its owners. The upstairs space is equally impressive, with a massive master suite, one queen bedroom and another with two bunks. There is also a lovely den, stocked with lots of books and wooden toys which my kids got hours and hours of fun out of. There is an additional queen downstairs.

The home is on a very quiet court and offers a good deal of privacy. There's a good sized deck right off of the living room and plenty of wooded space to explore at the back of the cabin.

If you haven't been to Northstar before, you should know that the Big Springs area is by far the nicest part of the resort. More generally, this location worked for us as a base for exploring Tahoe, Truckee, Reno and as far as Virginia City in Nevada. There aren't many shops in Northstar itself, but Truckee and Kings Beach (both only 15mins away) will have everything you could need for your stay.

We had one minor issue during our stay which Brad and Laura were super quick to respond to. I highly recommend this cabin - we would happily stay here again.
