The Neighborhood:

Telegraph Hill is one of San Francisco's oldest neighbourhoods. It's a quiet, safe, and trendy area with all the greatest fun and European cafes, art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, bars/sports bars, and shops.

Getting Around:

There is one tandem parking space below the unit available upon request. Be aware that you might have to move another car to get out. The owner of the other car does not know how to drive a manual, so, if you rent a car, please get an automatic.

The neighbourhood has a 100% walking and transit score. It's a quick walk to Little Italy, Washington Square Park, Fisherman's Wharf, the Embarcadero, China Town, Cable Cars, the Ferry Building, Downtown/Union Square, BART, the Marina, Russian Hill, Nob Hill, etc. All within 5-15 minutes on foot.

To get to/from the airport, you can take a shuttle van (e.g. SuperShuttle), a cab, or train (BART). If you take BART, we recommend taking a cab from the Embarcadero station as the 20-30 minute walk includes an up hill climb at the end that can be quite tiring.

Other Things to Note:

- I require all the guests to provide a verified form of ID with VRBO/Homeaway and the purpose of the visit.

- Please realize we do not have a TV. Many of our guests use our WIFI to download and view video.

- The apartment is on the third floor and there is no elevator. We are also partly up a hill - Telegraph Hill.

- While the apartment is in a building, it has a full address and not a unit number. The building's addresses are not clearly marked on the outside. I advise you use google street view to make sure you know what the building looks like.

Rooftop Splendor

  • 5 of 5

Wow, you have to see the view from the rooftop of this apartment to believe it!!!! We booked hoping to have a nice view of the bay, but what we had in reality was a sweeping vista of the whole bay. Then when you turned around you had the San Fran skyline sitting right behind you. It was wonderful. The apartment was really comfortable and has everything you need. Its right on the edge of China Town and North Beach so you have loads of choice when eating out. We could easily walk to all the key places. A really great place to stay.

Amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at Nadiana's place in San Francisco. The apartment was located in a convenient, central location,

and we were able to walk to many restaurants in Telegraph Hill, Chinatown, and North Beach. Its a beautiful, remodeled unit with everything you need and is exactly like the photos and if anything, more spacious! You can see the Golden Gate Bridge from the window of the living room (far off but still a nice view to see every morning). The place was very clean and the bed was super comfy which was a god send as we had really long days and needed the rest to continue our adventure! We enjoyed going up on the roof and seeing the great views of almost the entire Bay. The washer and dryer was a big plus for catching up on our vacation dirty clothes collection. Nadiana checked in on us after we arrived, and provided detailed instructions prior to our arrival that included everything we needed to know. We also appreciated that the place came with a parking spot as we rented a car during our stay. We would definitely stay here again if we traveled back to San Francisco. Thanks Nadiana!

Great apartment near North Beach

  • 5 of 5

We love the North Beach area of San Francisco and this apartment is in the perfect location. Easy access to the great restaurants in the area and easy walking distance down to Chinatown, Financial District, etc.

The kitchen and bathroom have recently been upgraded and the owners did a fantastic job. Overall, a lovely little apartment.

We look forward to returning to this property during our next visit to San Francisco.

Definitely NOT a Gem!

  • 1 of 5

To provide a bit of perspective, note that we've rented a half dozen or so SF properties in the general area of this unit for holiday vacations in the last decade and have used VRBO repeatedly for our retirement travels, both home and abroad.

This unit is definitely on the bottom of the pile as far as comfort, location, and value go; in fact, we would have rejected it, altogether, if an acceptable alternative had been readily available . The building itself is dingy, poorly maintained and dirty (cigarette butts on the dark stairway); the rooftop area unusable with animal feces lying about. We can only surmise that the other reviewers must hail from third world environs to rate it so highly as the neighborhood is trash-strewn and frequented by many derelicts & homeless folks (though much of SF is these days.)

We stayed there for a week in early December 2016 (our typical time frame) and found the unit itself to be dark, cold and shabby. The two portable electric heaters (no other heating available) were entirely inadequate and we were forced to abandon the living room in short order to use them for heating the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom on a rotational/as-needed basis.

The furniture is mostly broken and/or stained and the window coverings are unsightly (there are none in the kitchen with nearby building windows clearly viewable). The linens are stained and threadbare.

The owners are apparently in the middle of a low budget remodeling attempt with a "most-expense-spared" approach. The newer IKEA kitchen cabinets/appliances were full of half-used food products scattered about and we were forced to clean the counters and table to render them usable. The extra bedroom is stashed full of junk and castoffs, though to be fair the property is listed as a one bedroom. The bathroom is tiny but nicely tiled and functional.

We would never recommend such a place to friends/family....or anyone, for that matter. It seemed as though we were sharing the space with a very frugal/untidy relative, though not as cheaply. The rate we paid for the week should have guaranteed a much more pleasant experience!

Owner's Response: Dear John: We have to say, your review came as quite a surprise, as all our other guests, as you can see from our many reviews on VRBO, were all 5 stars. In response to your points: 1. The time you visited was exceptionally cold and overcast for SF and we're sorry if the space heaters were not adequate. We intend to buy one more. Maybe this also explains why you thought it was dark. We have numerous lamps (new from BB&Y) and overhead lights in every room. Being on the top floor, our unit gets a lot of light on a sunny day. 2. We weren't aware that the furniture was "mostly broken." As far as we know, none of it is broken. 3. The kitchen window (see photos) does not have a curtain and, yes, it does look out on other apartments. We never thought of this as being a problem or issue before. 4. Since you've "rented a half dozen or so SF properties" nearby you must be very familiar with the neighborhood. If "the neighborhood is trash-strewn and frequented by many derelicts & homeless folks” we're not quite sure why you keep returning. While San Francisco does have a homeless problem, North Beach and Telegraph Hill are not known for this or being particularly trash-strewn. 5. We throw out leftovers that guests leave, but not food that we think other guests may enjoy such as cereal. Sorry if you didn’t like what was left. 6. The window curtains (see photos - bought new at BB&Y) are "sun-blocking" curtains as we want our guests to have a good night sleep without intruding sunlight. 7. The entire unit, and linens (new from Macy’s) are thoroughly cleaned after every guest. 8. The condo association cleans the hallways. Sorry if you encountered a cigarette butt. We will do our best to check and sweep more often. 9. There is a nuisance dog in the adjacent building, but we check/clean the roof between every guest. Sorry, if, nonetheless, you ran into this. 10. There is a second bedroom (not intended for guest use) that we sparsely use for storage. We keep the door closed, though not locked, and we're sorry if you didn’t like what you found in there. 11. We are not "in the middle of a low budget remodeling attempt with a "most-expense-spared" approach”. We did do a remodel before renting the unit and it was done in the best taste possible. Again, we have many photos on our site so guests know exactly what they are getting (see other reviews). Again, sorry you did not have a wonderful time/experience like our other guests. Sincerely, Nadiana
