Beautiful location, shared property

Like the other guests who have reviewed this property, I found it to be a great space, comfortable, and the oceanfront location right on the east coast trail is spectacular. I stayed for 12 days in late August with some friends. What came as a surprise upon arrival was that the family who owns the home lives in the lower level of the home. They are very hospitable and make every effort to be unintrusive, but there is only so much you can do. There are in fact three houses about 50 feet from each other, all owned by the family, where the family members reside variously. There is therefore an unavoidable social element, and you will see and hear people in and around this property every day, and they will see and hear you. This is not a terrible thing as long as you know that upfront, but I double checked the listing and the "shared house" aspect is not disclosed, so be aware of that. To me it matters a great deal whether you are getting the privacy of a house (probably why you are looking at a house on VRBO in the first place) or the social feel of a communal property, so this was the one disappointment I had and is the reason for the two lost stars in my rating. So to be clear, you are getting the upper level of the house. The part you see below the deck in the photo is not yours. Also be aware that the three dogs that live in the lower level of the house are friendly and wonderful animals, and will interact with you, so just a heads up in case you don't like that. One of them, however, barks A LOT, every day, without fail, for sometimes a continuous 1 or 2 hours without cease. Back to the "communal feel" as the one drawback. An unexpected plus was the family's resident pony, named Trinity, who quietly grazes the grounds all day and hopes you'll feed him the odd carrot or apple (which you should!).

Owner's Response: There are inaccuracies in the review. There are two dogs living downstairs. Scout, a golden retriever and Murray, a golden Lab/golden retriever mix. Scout barks at intruders but at no time would we allow him to bark for hours at a time because we know we have people living on the premises. Yes there are three homes in the area that are approx 100 feet apart and people live in them. And there are many other homes in the same vicinity with people living in them. We do live in a small community near the ocean. We allow animals to stay at our home because we love animals. Lots of people bring their dogs on vacation with them. I am sorry the customer in question does not like dogs. I hope his review doesn't stop others from booking a stay at such a beautiful place.

We loved this place!!!

We spent the last four nights of our Newfoundland vacation in this lovely home. From the very beginning we loved it. Clean, well-equipped, comfortable, views to die for and lots of space. Sarah and her family (included the dogs and horse) were friendly and welcoming - even to the point of supplying us with delicious cod! The people of Pouch Cove were also very friendly and welcoming. We walked the East Coast Trail in both directions from the front of the property and it was spectacular. Close to St. John's if you want to spend a day there; beautiful drive to the Conception Bay South area for another excursion. We have used VRBOs many times in many places and this is definitely one of our favourites in a list of great experiences.

4 bedroom home in beautiful Pouch Cove

This very comfortable Pouch Cove home truly has gorgeous ocean views with great walks connecting to the East Coast trail. It is an easy half hour drive out of St. John's with a generously outfitted kitchen. The furnishings are comfortable, WIFI much appreciated, and the one level design of the house made it very easy to entertain elderly relatives who can no longer handle stairs. The only cautionary point must be that guests enjoy animals - their friendly dogs (and pony next door) are very present, generally being kept outside (at least during the decent weather months).

Beautiful home right off the ocean! Generous and welcoming hosts!

My family and I spent nine nights at Sarah's beautiful home and felt so welcome from the minute we arrived! The house was very clean upon our arrival and has everything we needed for a wonderful stay - full kitchen, all linens and towels, and certain staples in the kitchen - condiments, coffee, etc. Sarah and her family were so generous to us during our stay and regularly checked in to ensure we had everything we needed. We felt right at home! The patio and several of the bedrooms had an amazing view of the ocean and we even saw a few whales in the distance. Hearing the waves crashing against the rocks was so relaxing. We loved being close enough to all the action (only a short 30 minute right away), but being able to experience staying on the ocean and all the perks you get from it!

Awesome place!

My husband and I spent five nights in this beautiful, immaculate, wonderfully appointed home. The owner was very welcoming and provided many helpful details upon our arrival. There is an absolutely spectacular view of the ocean from the deck and from many windows in the house. We loved watching the colors of the sky and sea change throughout the day. It is a very quiet and relaxing spot, yet you can drive into St. John's in a very short time. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. If you are looking for a place to rent on the Avalon Peninsula and would like to be close to St. John's, you definitely should check into this property. It is wonderful!

Driving directions from St. John's International Airport. Leave airport via World Parkway Drive. Drive 1 km to intersection of Portugal Cove Road. Turn left and drive 1.4 km to intersection of Airport Heights Drive. Turn left onto Majors Path. Drive 1 km to Torbay Road. Turn left and drive .5 km to Stavenger Drive (IF YOU WISH TO PURCHASE GROCERIES HERE - OTHER ALTERNATIVE IS FOODLAND IN TORBAY). Turn right on Stavenger. You will have Dominion Supermarket on left and Costco on right. After you leave Stavenger Drive turn right onto Torbay Road and continue for 2.1 km to intersection of Jack Byrne Arena. Another .2 km brings you to next light. You can EITHER turn left onto ByPass Road here or continue into Torbay. If you turn left on ByPass Road, drive straight through two lights/intersections and you will reach Flatrock. If you go through Torbay drive 4.5 km to Foodland. After leaving Foodland drive 2.5 km to intersection of ByPass Road/Flatrock. Continue 9.2 km to Pouch Cove and you will reach 592 Main Road, which is a small white bungalow. Turn right in front of white bungalow and continue over long driveway. Red house (592B Main Rd) is on your left and orange house (21 Bank Road) is on your right.
