TAMARIND HOUSE APARTMENT IS AVAILABLE FOR RENT AS AN ALTERNATIVE OR ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION TO THE MAIN VILLA. THIS GIVES THE OPTION OF RENTING THE PROPERTY FOR ANY NUMBER OF PEOPLE (MAXIMUM 10) AT DIFFERENT RATES DEPENDING ON YOUR REQUIREMENTS.
Tamarind House Apartment (below main villa) consists of:- 1 twin bedroom with separate bathroom. Living area with fully equipped kitchenette and queen size futon sofa-bed. The apartment opens onto the garden and pool area with terrace, gazebo, pool furniture, hammock, wet bar and gas barbecue/grill.
Perched on a hill in the centre of Parlatuvier, self-catering Tamarind House villa provides breathtaking, uninterrupted views of both the oldest protected rain forest in the Western hemisphere and one of the most attractive beaches along Tobago’s Caribbean coastline. Completed in April 2007 the rental villa with separate apartment is a thoughtfully designed and constructed log house. It is a perfect holiday retreat. From the verandas, pool, terrace and garden, guests can relax and watch the day go by - fishing boats leaving early and arriving with the catch mid afternoon, the daily migration of orange winged parrots, cocricos, egrets and corn birds to and from their favourite roosts, and much more besides. With the beach an easy stroll of 4 or 5 minutes away there is ample opportunity to swim and snorkel amongst coral reefs fringing the beach.
It is a gorgeous house in a beautiful bay . The house was lovely , amazing views and decking with pool and only 5 min walk to the beach .
Parlatuvier is a authentic sleepy village in Tobago so if you want R&R this is perfect however the flip side to this is the supermarkets are a good 45 minute drive away .
A real hidden gem that we would return to !
The apartment was everything we had hoped for, the pool, the garden, the verandahs overlooking the rainforest and the beach all perfect. Sharon the housekeeper was friendly, helpful and a good cook. A perfect week. Thank you
Part of me wants to keep this hidden gem all to myself! But that seems terribly selfish, given that everyone should be given the opportunity to vacation in a place this pristine, perfect and full of pure joy at least once. The house itself is just lovely, tucked away up on a hill, overlooking a small, clear fishing bay, nestled amongst an array of flowering plants, palms and green pastures. The apartment below the main house is even lovelier than even the pictures show. With plenty of sun, it boasts a cool air-conditioned bedroom with a large wardrobe, a wonderful bath with a giant tiled shower (and excellent water pressure!) and a perfectly appointed kitchen with an ample sized fridge, gas stove, and all the pots, cutlery and dishware one could want. Leading out to the patio are large wooden doors that we kept open for most of the day to bring in the sunshine, fresh air and a view of the garden. And I don't think we once had a single bug! We did however, have myriad bird sightings, friendly geckos and plump frogs.
The grounds are lovely, private and lush.. there's an outdoor eating area with a BBQ, and the small pool is perfect for a dip in between chapters of whatever book you're reading. With the place to ourselves, we had the good fortune to enjoy the view from the upper deck. With padded Adirondack chairs you can relax in the shade as you gaze out into the bay. (Although Ryan favored the oversize hammock). From here, you see the dock bustling with activity when the fishermen come in, listen to the school children practice their steel drums, and take in the gentle rhythm of country life: cows grazing, dogs playing, the chickens chasing each other, laundry being hung out to dry, and the locals chatting, laughing and going about their business.
Lesley prepared us wonderfully for our trip, setting up arrangements for everything prior to our arrival including a taxi to bring us up to Tamarind house (Kirt from Joes Taxi, who graciously stopped for groceries, cash, souvenirs and fruit along the way) our local car rental, and just about every other detail including a "welcome package" of groceries and a home-cooked meal upon arrival. Additional thanks to Helen the property manager who answered every question promptly.
All-in-all, perhaps the most incredible vacation we've ever taken. Peaceful, beautiful, no "tourists," just kind, generous wonderful local folks in a picturesque setting,. Perfect in every way. Now shhh and promise not to tell anyone!
Paradise...that's what we found at Tamarind House. Parlatuvier is a quaint fishing village with a very laid back approach to life. Very non 'touristy'. About an hour's drive from the airport. We found the locals to be friendly and welcoming. Tamarind house is located in the centre of the village, up on a hill overlooking the bay and jetty. The view is quite spectacular! The house was immaculate, the pool area was private and the pool was perfect for a relaxing cool down. If you prefer, the ocean is just a quick walk. Sharon, the housekeepper was very welcoming, accessible and a great source of information. We also met her mom, son, daughter, brother...very closely knitted community. My husband and I spent quite a bit of time down at the jetty, visiting with the locals, swimming and snorkelling in the bay. Everyday around 5 pm the fishermen return with their catch. Nothing better that a fresh fish fry!! Although there is a local convenience store we would recommend you rent a vehicle as Tamarind House is not within walking distance of a typical grocery store. My husband and I have travelled quite extensively and both of us agree, Parlatuvier and Tamarind house go to the top of our list for places we thoroughly enjoyed. We have already decided to start planning our return trip. The only difference will be to stay much longer than a week. We would definitely recommend Tamarind House if you are looking to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle.
It is a very special place! The most amazing vistas - the whole of the bay at the front and rainforest surrounding the back - The house itself is very well designed and resourced - we chose to stay in the apartment, with the garden and rainforest views - it's quieter - apart from the emerald parrots that fly noisily in pairs overhead and bananquits who hang from the sugar feeders - hummingbirds in the garden too - and a turquoise pool to dip in - You can have the apartment doors open and lie in the hammock overlooking the garden/forest. Plenty of room in the apartment for 4 adults and although you have to share the bathroom, the shower is huge !
A five minute walk gets you on the beach where you can swim, snorkle or buy fresh fish from the boats as they return in the afternoon. A little more exertion gets you quickly into the forest where you will be amazed by the sounds and sights, including a waterfall on either of the rivers that fall swiftly from the hills.
For a week in June 2008, my boyfriend and I stayed in Tamarind House, a ‘5 Star luxury paradise villa' in the remote fishing village of Parlatuvier. The villa had much more to offer than just the day to day household necessities – there were impressive views of not only the bay, but also the surrounding rainforest in which we found ourselves becoming deeply absorbed. Although we stayed in the well equipped downstairs apartment, we still had the luxury of eating breakfast on the veranda which over-looked the bay with a million dollar view that could never tire us.
One of our favourite features of the house was the small, but more than sufficient, outdoor swimming pool, a fantastic place to cool down and watch the sun set after a long day exploring the island. The pool was also the perfect place to spend a romantic evening, sitting under the starry Caribbean night sky accompanied by the serenading sounds of the tropical night-time nature.
The best thing about the apartment was the huge, open spaced shower area decorated with mosaic tiles in different hues of blue. The air-conditioned bedroom with mosquito netting over the bed made for a great night's sleep.
Just a short walk from the end of the drive, is a great little parlour selling delicious Roti, a local lunchtime snack. If what you are wanting is a quick, filling, tasty yet affordable lunch which is also a Caribbean 'delicacy' - then a trip to the Roti hut is a must .
When it came to exploring the island, we did it in true Che Guevara style - via a motorcycle. We rented out a 125cc motorcycle and had a blast! It was a great way of travelling and gave us a real, close-up sense of Tobago. We found ourselves constantly pulling up at the side of the road to embrace those exquisite views and take photos. Probably not such a good idea in rainy season though!
Neighbouring Englishman's Bay really is a spectacular place to soak up the sun and splash around in the sea. If you are really lucky and get there at the right time, you may have the whole beach to yourselves. I completely understand how Englishman’s Bay was once voted one of the top ten beaches in the world.
Overall, we had a wonderful trip to Tobago and could think of no better place to have stayed than Tamarind House. The fact that the owners are willing to share it with others is something that should definitely be taken advantage of - it has to be seen to be believed.
The spectacular fishing village of Parlatuvier is just a 40 km drive from Crown Point Airport, up along the picturesque North Coast road. This working village has a perfect crescent shaped beach curving away towards pretty pastel beach houses, a small elementary school, a few tiny shops, a rum parlour and breathtaking views. Set against a backdrop of stunning tropical rain forest Parlatuvier is Caribbean village life at its simplest.
On either side of Parlatuvier are the villages of Castara, Englishman’s Bay and Bloody Bay, each with their own beautiful beaches and a variety of restaurants and small shops.
