This fully-furnished house features air-conditioning in the living room and two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-sized water bed, other rooms have a queen. full and two twin beds Also a bonus room with reading material and ironing board. All basic amenities, even snorkeling gear. High speed internet (WI-FI), cable TV , washer and dryer included. Situated in an old plantation neighborhood it is considered slightly off the beaten path, yet close to town. This house is located on a private road: narrow and bumpy for a short distance (1/8th mile). Yet, a nice sanctuary to relax after a long day of sight-seeing or work. There are two steps from the garage to the laundry room, then three steps from the laundry room to the kitchen.

Heavy rain and coqui frogs break up the night's silence and takes some getting used to. Back neighbor has two dogs which are on the quiet side, another neighbor has a baby; neighbors have diesel trucks. On the other hand, only 5-15 minutes to beaches and airport, 45 minutes to Hawaii Volcano National Park and less than 2 hours away to Kailua-Kona. Note: Air conditioning will keep you comfortable in this home while most homes will not provide AC due to the high cost of electricity. Baby car seat and stroller available for a small fee. Most car rental companies have baby car seats available, but we can also provide drop off and pick up services.

About Property Manager/Owner

Being a traveler myself, it's always a challenge to find a place to call home while vacationing in another state or country especially with children. Having those little extras really add to the traveling experience and makes it less stressful. I want to provide those little extras and who knows, some may even want to make Hilo their home.

Why Property Manager/Owner chose Wainaku

This house is situated in an old plantation neighborhood which will give visitors a very good insight as to how many locals live. It also is very close to town, ocean and sight-seeing areas. Price is very good for this size of a house. However, if you are a light sleeper, this is not the house for you because of the heavy rains, coqui frogs, chickens and cats, which are prevalent in parts of Hilo, and the road is only six ft. away from the master bedroom with four houses above.

                                                        The first thing we noticed when we entered the house was how clean it is. We made ourselves at home and found that Alvin and Judy have thought of everything we might need. The kitchen and bathrooms are fully ready for your visit. They have helpful little notes around the house to make things easy. They also have information about the area with things to see and do. There is a BBQ and a nice covered back lanai with a huge fenced back yard for kids to play in safely. They even have a luggage scale to you can make sure you are not over weight on your return. My wife says the best word is convenient. Everything you need and in a perfect location.

                                                        Everything in the house worked so no problems there at all. It is a 5 minute drive to the heart of Hilo town. Walk-able if you want. Alvin and Judy made additional suggestions on activities via email while we were there.

                                                        There are coqui frogs that serenade you at night. Some people think they are loud but it feels like you are in nature. if you are staying on the wet side of the island they will be your companions. Otherwise, the area is quiet.

                                                        We would stay again in a heart beat.

                                                        Your home was like home away from home. Loved the and enjoyed the whole time we were in your home. No pressure, no crowds, no nothing. Just peace and quiet. Like we were at home on Molokai. The house was more then perfect for my family and I, and we enjoyed it a lot. Would like to return some day, and will definitely recommend it to families and friends. You were gracious to let us stay in past the check out time, which made even better.                                                         This beautiful and clean plantation house was exactly what we had hoped to find in a vacation rental! The Aloha spirit is alive and well in this beautiful home. The pictures and description in this listing do not do this house justice. We stayed here for a week and did not want to leave. My 6 and 9 year old kids absolutely loved playing in the big fenced in backyard, and watching the wild chickens and roosters run around the neighborhood. This house has everything you could possibly need, just bring your clothes, head to one of the local grocery stores, hit up the Hilo Farmers Market, relax, and enjoy your vacation. Alvin and Judy even had some local fruits, snacks, juice, and baked goods waiting for us upon our arrival. Although our decision to move to Hilo next year was already made, staying in this house further proved to us that we are making the right decision. Mahalo to Alvin and Judy for making this house available for others to enjoy!

                                                        We had to spend a few days in Hilo for school & decided to skip the usual hotel & try something new. Best decision ever!! Alvin was so accommodating. The home was more beautiful than the pics could show. Neighbors were super friendly. BBQ'd steaks & chicken for dinner in the carport. It was the perfect home for 6 of us & we hope to be back next semester. Definitely made the trip extra fun & comfortable. Will never stay in a hotel again!! If there is any kind of strong smoke or odor lingering in the house which requires shampooing of carpet and wiping walls, we will put in an insurance claim. (Will have 2 non-related parties to assess situation, probably our 2 cleaning people.)
