About the property

Large Guest Suite Suitable For A Couple Or Small Family. Pool. Screened Porch.

The newly renovated guest suite has double bed, dresser, and a bedroom view of banana trees.

The suite easily accommodates a couple. There is a pac and play for a young child. We have successfully hosted a young family with two toddlers. The screened in porch is a perfect play area.

Living area with sofa, lots of empty space for your belongings. Hundreds of DVDs. Closet. Kitchenette with huge farm sink, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dorm sized refrigerator, AC. Fans in both rooms. Screened porch is delightful. Sounds of frogs, birds...

Use of pool and deck is ok. Private parking space. Beach towels, kayak, etc.

Visitors who stay here love the screened in porch. It has a swing, cafe table and is a delightful place for coffee. Or an evening cocktail.

There's a separate parking space and entrance to the suite. We strongly urge guests to rent jeeps or other SUVs. Small cars don't do well on St. John.

About Martha Toomey

We are a family, enjoying our St. John life. Our son, 21 years old, has had many medical challenges but has persevered. He volunteers at the park, mostly reading to preschool children.

Martha is a disAbility advocate and enjoys tending to the herb garden and fruit trees. Jeff has written two fiction books based on St. John. The first book was award winning! He's a history buff and can tell visitors the best hiking trails to see ruins and other sites.

We have rescue cats and dogs. And a lot of hummingbirds and banana quit birds. The sound of the doves in our forest is charming.

We encourage visitors to research eco travel. Is your sunscreen toxic to our coral reefs? How about your insect repellant?

Martha Toomey purchased this house in 2010

Why Martha Toomey chose Cruz Bay

We bought this house because it's on a quiet residential dead end road. There's a Fork on the Road. Yes, a 6 foot tall fork! The family who built our house grew up here. There are little handprints in concrete steps. Lots of sweet memories.

It's surrounded by woods, hills. And quiet neighbors. Peaceful.

What makes this house unique

We like that the house is built into the hill. It's got three separate living levels. And room enough to grow fruit trees, pumpkin patch and herb garden. And the parking! It's got parking. We enjoy the pool, and the tiki hut.

But really? It's quiet....it's peaceful.

It's been a year since we started with VRBO, and we've given great thought about what we liked and didn't like. We really do prefer guests who want to explore the nature of our island. We've had several guests who were cranky, disinterested in the park, and unhappy. They complained about everything! We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our in depth knowledge of the island with guests. What fun hearing about somebody's great snorkeling. Or hiking.

If you are high maintenance or tend to complain, we aren't your place!

Notes:
Our guest suite is located in a quiet neighborhood. You sleep with the delightful sounds of birds, frogs and roosters. We are centrally located, making it easy to get to Cruz Bay, and also out to the more remote attractions in Coral Bay. One of your hosts works for the Friends of the National Park and can help arrange a variety of park activities. It can be difficult to travel to a new place, to be excited about vacation but not know where to go or which restaurant to eat in. It's great to have a local person set you on the correct path. You want to see the coral reefs, the historical ruins and hike the beautiful trails. You don't want to waste your valuable vacation time looking for sea turtles in the wrong place. We have lived here for six years and want to use what we have learned to help visitors. We are especially interested in helping guests understand how they can participate in protecting St. John. For example, most sunscreens are poison to coral reefs, and to you!

Enjoyed every minute! Owners were extremely hospitable and the housing was comfortable and clean.

The porch and the pool were where we happily spent our time when not on the beach. You need a jeep or equivalent for the road. The owners gave us great tips for dining and activities on St John. We will return.

We live a short drive from downtown Cruz Bay in a quiet residential neighborhood. There's a school up the road from us. St. John offers some of the world's most beautiful sandy beaches, with snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing....and hiking. It's a natural paradise because most of the island is the Virgin Island National Park.

Our theme is indeed the park. And we encourage our visitors to join park rangers on special hikes. Go bird watching. Snorkel the mangroves.

Or charter a day sail. It's all about the Caribbean and enjoying the pristine beaches, hiking trails and culture.

We can help you plan your trip. There's so much to see and do here you don't want to waste a minute.
