Charming one bedroom cottage, perfect for couple on a Hudson Valley adventure
About Elise Viola
I have been a full time Hudson Valley resident for 19 years after spending 3 consecutive summers in the countryside designing sets for a summer stock theatre called "Tri-Arts". After the first summer, I was completely smitten with the Hudson Valley. When my husband and I decided to buy a home, we knew we couldn't live anywhere else. The guest cottage was built by the same family that built our 1938 farm house where we live. The cottage was built in 1968 for a single uncle of the family. The cottage remained in that original family until I purchased it in year 2000. I've redesigned the interior and my dear friend and professional carpenter Jay, has done all the custom carpentry. These days I am around enough to offer guests any information on all the hidden and not-so-hidden gems the Hudson Valley has to offer.
Elise Viola purchased this Cottage in 2000
Why Elise Viola chose Highland
The guest cottage is centrally located to all the tourist attractions and natural wonders in the Hudson Valley. The property itself sits among a wildflower meadow and vegetable garden in summer, all accessible to guests. In the fall the cottage is surrounded by trees with their spectacular foliage.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is both contemporary and cozy with a peaceful view of the woods. When you are in the cottage you have the feeling you are in a secluded location. If you tire of the serenity, you could be on the "Walkway Over the Hudson" or at a winery among other people within a few minutes. The area has a unique combination of a rural setting yet there is so very much to do and see. Wether you are in the mood for nature or culture; it's all here in the Hudson Valley and the town of Highland is centrally located.

The venue was everything we expected. Quiet, clean and relaxing. I definitely will go there again next time Im in that area.
Great location close to good food and fun
Great property close to lots of attractions and great food in the Hudson Valley. Elise had great advice on activities. Sat out back and enjoyed nature. Lucky enough to see a double rainbow.
Another enjoyable stay
Love the location and host is so accommodating. Almost feels like family after staying there several times .
Cozy stay surrounded by trees and birds
The cottage offered privacy, comfort and convenience to local attractions. Bathroom recently renovated; bed very comfortable; kitchen a bit dated but very functional.
I'm glad Sonya found the cottage comfortable and convenient, though not sure
what she meant by a "dated" kitchen. It was renovated at the same time as the rest of the cottage and purposefully designed to have a "charming"
The only modern appliance it does not have is a dishwasher, as the kitchen is
very small and most couples don't need one when they are having a weekend away. Sonya and Richard are welcome back anytime!
Perfect location for visiting weekend at my daughters college. Clean place and very helpful owners.
Perfect two-person getaway!
Beautiful spot for relaxation and exploration. Great hiking and history minutes away. Wineries and restaurants for every taste. The cottage is perfectly outfitted, and the hosts warm and welcoming. Looking forward to another visit in the future!
Our guest cottage is centrally located to all the major Hudson Valley attractions. We are 3 minutes from the spectacular "Walkway Over the
Hudson" which connects the town of Highland to the town of Poughkeepsie, 200 feet above the river with a glass viewing elevator. This area is also a culinary mecca with many great eating establishments and family farms offering "You Pick" fruit, pumpkins, hayrides, and haunted hayrides. There are over 30 wineries, breweries and distilleries all nearby. In addition, we have Gilded Age historic mansions open to the public, also on the river. There are revolutionary
war historic sights, museums and other cultural attractions. We have it all!
