Nice view of lake and marina

  • 2 of 5

Enjoyed the property for the most part with a few exceptions. I would recommend that when someone books the property the owner reply with directions to the home. This would only take a sentence or two and has been suggested several times in other reviews. Although the home technically sleeps 6, two of the beds are doubles and pretty small for two people to share. Unfortunately my husband and I chose to sleep in separate beds for comfort. Lastly, and this is a big one, there was an unpleasant smell in the cabin. I'm pretty sure it is urine in the carpets, however, my husband thought it might just be mustiness. For this last reason, I won't stay there again.

Great cabin on the lake! Beautiful, well equipped cabin with a wonderful lake view.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four and our niece had plenty of room to relax and enjoy the lake. The cabin had every comfort of home. It has easy access to Durango and Pagosa Springs at the same price as less accommodating hotels.

The enchanting Lake Cottage was well-appointed and provided near everything imaginable to make our visit welcoming and relaxing. It was clean, decorated well in a mountain motif and had a lot of charm, besides a few extras like shampoo/lotion samples, paperback novels and board games if one so chose that route. Wifi was provided, which suited my adult daughters well. The fire pit outside was where we gathered each evening to star-gaze, and listen anew to the sounds of Vallecito. The lake views and sounds were just what us desert people needed. It was close to the marina, and an eclectic restaurant, the latter's food fare delicious. We found ourselves walking up and down the dirt road bordering the lake every day for one reason or another, and sitting on the porch taking in lake life and the sun's gleam off of the water. The small grocery store was about 3 driving-mins away, so there was a lot of convenience built in to the cottage location. The property manager even swung by one day! Nice fella. As another reviewer mentioned, the cottage was a bit difficult to initially find, even with Mapsco, the parking cramped if there's more than one vehicle. The only other thing that was a downer was the near constant bumping and creaking of the metal ramp leading to the owner's moored boat. That seemed to over-power the lapping sounds of the lake striking the shore, and was rather annoying after a few days there. Perhaps some carpet or other buffer could be used to minimize. Oh, no scissors, though not a problem since I had one in my personal first-aid kit. Over-all, this cottage is warmly recommended. We'd like to return to it in future.

The Lake Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a bi-level structure with 2 bath rooms and 4 beds. All 4 of the beds are in separate spaces and 2 of the beds are singles. A well equipped kitchen makes food preparation easy enough. Situated above the lake, there are two decks with marvelous views. Fire wood is present for use outside. With only on restaurant nearby, and extremely limited grocery selection available at the lake, I recommend that you take with you all of the food and beverages that you may need during your stay at Lake Vallicito.
