Private Apt, 1918 House in old neighborhood, walk!! , gardens, parking, laundr
Old hardwood floors, high ceilings, leaded glass windows, great breeze.
FULLY equipped kitchen, sheets, towels, hairdryer, soaps/shampoos, snacks, TV with Chromecast, WIFI, laundry, games, books, big comfy front porch, offstreet parking, walk to grocery and restaurants and MARTA. Gardens, chickens, bees (very safe) in backyard.
Bedroom has a queen bed AND a twin. There is a pullout sleeper twin in the living room and a full-size sofa pull-out sleeper. ALSO a twin size mattress hiding behind the bookcase. There's a great dining area right outside your kitchen door, at the top of the landing (see pic of glass table); it overlooks the garden and coop!
This big house was built in 1918 by the Southern Railway as an upscale boarding house where Northern railroad execs could bring their families and over-winter at what was then the terminus of the rail-line. So it was built as a quad, which means a few things, each apt has a good layout, not chopped up from a once-primary-residence, it's got high ceilings, leaded glass, plaster walls a foot thick, and it's across the street from the old railyard, which is now part of the Beltline. It's a well-put-together space yet welcomes you to settle in. Plenty of walking-to destinations; walk to MARTA train (either Edgewood or Candler Park). Walk to 4 unique restaurants, coffee shops, a local market, some retail. Get a growler from Candler Park Market and pull up a chair and watch what we call 'chicken TV' in backyard. The beehives are safely enclosed in the chicken run. See what's growing, pull some weeds...
My coop has been on the Urban Coop Tour lots (and lately, too).
NO Roosters live here (or nearby)!!!

About Scott H. Thompson
Decatur Native attorney married to Atlanta native attorney, 3 kids, urban gardener with about 750,000 bees and exactly 26 laying hens. Youth coach, Rotarian, Mountain Biker, Birder, Geek. Margot (10th grader!!) helps me with me pretty much everything in the Airbnb business. I couldn't have imagined what an incredible business experience this has been for a young lady. Letting her convert a few of our apartments into short-term rentals has given her first-hand business experiences that babysitting just doesn't cover!!
Scott H. Thompson purchased this House in 1990
Why Scott H. Thompson chose Lake Claire
It was a huge project, but i wanted the land because of gardening/chickens/bees potential, which, you'll see, worked out great!
What makes this House unique
It's really INtown. Not out in the burbs. Funky neighborhood is kinda Austin wierd, that's a good thing. Late check-ins are never a problem since we'll assign you a door code, and you don't need to meet for your 'key". We really want to maintain our flexible policy on check-in and check-out times. I will do everything I can to accommodate your times. Early check-in and late checkout depend on both your requests and the preceding/ following guests', then me negotiating something reasonable. If the night before you is not booked (and we won't know until that afternoon!) we'd normally be happy for you to check-in at 8am... If you want to check out at 5pm and no one is coming that night, no problem!! We'll see as we get closer. But, we do have a space where you can store bags. Otherwise, here is what the HOUSE MANUAL (in your Itinerary) will say-- Check-in will be anytime after 3 pm and Check-out will be anytime before 11am UNLESS YOU REQUEST flexibility with some notice. FULL DISCLOSURE -- this is my urban working farmlet, so from time to time there will be beehive frames for repair in the yard, or mushroom logs to innoculate on the porch, or wheelbarrows or implements of gardening strewn about. This big, old, demanding mistress requires regular attention from me and my trunkful of tools!! The inside pictures are exactly "as is". Promise. My farm does not extend to your very clean, orderly, tidy apartment

Great location. We were able to walk to restaurants, coffee and a market. The place was clean, quiet and cozy. The bed was super comfortable and my wife and I both slept very well. The white noise machine near the bed was an added bonus. Owner was friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend!
We didn’t get to do much at the apartment itself. Because we were at conventions all day but the bed was very comfy and love the down comforter. Had a nice bath one night and read a book! Thanks for the snacks they were amazing!
This old house/apartment is the coziest/most peaceful and homey place I have ever stayed. No luxury here, think country home. Perfectly clean. The atmosphere is priceless. The house has such positive nurturing energy! I was able to get a ton of work done, very quiet, super fast internet. Beautiful daylight throughout the house. Everything works great. You have everything you need, there were even snacks left for me, what a nice touch! I stayed 5 nights and did not want to leave. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality!
My fiancé had a great time, even though the weather was terrible. Very cute apt and super close to little five points. Had some great meals while in town.
Would totally stay there again!!
Too noisy to sleep
Overall, the unit was charming and the owner was friendly; however, I'm basing my review on the intended use of the rental which was a restful weekend while taking our toddler to Stone Mountain. I figured this rental would be a cheaper alternative to a hotel suite so that we could put our daughter to bed early, and then be able to enjoy some TV and conversation afterwards. However, there is no door on the bedroom to block out noise or light after we put her to bed, so we basically had to read our kindles in the dark until our bedtime. While it is in a neat neighborhood, I wouldn't have rented it if I had known it backs up to a busy highway and mass-transit rail. The loud train went by roughly every 30 minutes until around 2 am, and the older windows seemed to let in all street noise including police sirens, dogs and people yelling. Also, the people renting the unit below us got in around midnight and we could hear practically everything they did. Once, they closed the door so hard it shook our entire floor and bed. Suffice it to say we were all awake most of the night, with everyone being able to sleep from about 2-5am when the train started back up. We packed up that morning and booked a hotel room for our second day/night and are very glad we did.
There are four apartments in this big house. Out of hundreds of stays and hundreds of reviews, this is the only one to mention noise.
Cozy apartment in a fun neighborhood
This little apartment was a great place to spend almost a week while attending a conference in Atlanta. It was comfortable, about a 10-15 minute walk from the MARTA (train) station, and within walking distance of a few different markets, restaurants, etc. Also near a beautiful community garden-community land trust area. It had everything I and a work colleague needed, and if we asked for something, Scott helped us right away. He was friendly and generous (but not too generous) with local information and ideas of where to eat, what to do, and how to get places. If in Atlanta again, I would definitely stay there.
