Hawaiian plantation house with 3 bedrooms, it is newly renovated on the main strip of Honokaa! You have the whole house and living room that has keyless lock entry for 24hrs self check in after 4pm check in time. Free Wifi, cable, parking, and 48 inch flat screen! What's great about this location is that is north of island which makes it easier to explore the island. You can go either side to Hilo/ volcano or other side to Kona. Plus Waipio Valley the second most visited spot is just 15 mins away! When you walk outside of the 3 bedroom house the complex has 2 additional private rooms that are rented out separate. The shared full kitchen is on the opposite end of the complex away from the sleeping area so the rooms are quite for sleeping! There are two full shared bathrooms. What's special about this Hawaiian plantation complex is that it has a historic Koi pond from 1925 that was considered royalty back then to have a pond in the courtyard. With many fruit trees on this property you get a real experience of Hawaii! If you get a chance you can watch my Shark Tank episode season 7 episode 27! Also don't miss my Fujino Shave Ice shop in front! Let with workers know you are a guest at my rental and they will give you free ice cream when you order my delicious shave ice! Also Famous 2x UFC World Champion BJPenn rented my restaurant and opened up local Poke shop & Hawaiian food right in front of the building. Fresh Shave ice and Hawaiian food easy just in front of building, everything you need plus more restaurants just walking distance!

About Mai Lieu
You may have seen me on ABC's TV show Shark Tanks- Season 7 episode 27! I am a Entrepreneur and business owner with several vacation rentals in Kona, Ahualoa, Honolulu and Honokaa. I also own the Shave Ice shop in front, which is a must have when you come to Hawaii! I'm a best selling author and love to surf and Tahitian dance!
Mai Lieu purchased this House in 2016
Why Mai Lieu chose Honokaa
I feel in love with this property because it is so special, it is the last Historic town left. This town is growing and this island is also. More and more people are discovering how beautiful Big Island is and Honokaa is up and coming! The house is so special, with perfect weather!
What makes this House unique
I love the indoor outdoor living, this plantation house has a courtyard in the middle with a koi pond that we restored from it original in 1924. We displayed all the great historic things we found in the house example 1940's newspapers and bottles! You get to experience a part of history when you stay in this home!

Different Layout & Unique Experience
The space is relaxing and the location is perfect for Honokaa town. The market is up the street. There is Fujino Shave Ice in the front and it's next to the fire station and police station so I felt very safe.
The bed in the back of the house was extremely comfortable. It's the only one we slept on, but I'm sure the others are nice as well. It's an older plantation style home, so the bedrooms are separate from the bathroom and kitchen. You walk through an outdoor hallway to go to the bathroom and further down the hallway to get to the kitchen. This place is really for the folks who want a more authentic "plantation" style experience as it is not your typical rental home/space.
There is a nice breeze that moves through the house and this also means windows needed to stay open. Purchasing mosquito coils helped us not be bitten as much when we decided to spend time at the house. We decided to purchase our materials (cooking oils, salt/pepper/spices, food to cook, etc.) from Kona town and then bring everything to the house and we cooked in the quaint kitchen (fully stocked with bowls, pots, pans, cups etc.). We loved that there was parking on premise which made life easier for everyone!
Mai is an excellent host who was in touch throughout our stay and helped to make the stay more comfortable. If you want a unique experience, this might be the best place for you!
Thank you for the great review and you are welcome back any time!
Great location and walking distance to restaurants!
The house was newly renovated and i liked the historic home, it felt like Hawaii and the koi pond was really nice in the mornings. Also my first time sleeping on memory foam mattress it was so comfortable. I will defiantly be be back.
Beautiful plantation house! Gives you a real good vibe! Feels like old Honokaa.
I really enjoyed my stay here. Felt like I was warped back in time to the plantation days. Accommodations were awesome! Thanks Mai!
Quirky, historic, rustic, old Hawaii charm
We enjoyed this quirky historic house and the wonderful little town of Honokaa. This property is a true old plantation house. That means all rooms are accessed via exterior doors off the porch. The three bedrooms, living room and a meditation room are connected. The bathroom and kitchen have separate entrances and cannot be accessed from the main living areas. We loved this "outdoor living" feature, as the porch is covered and even with light rain you could move from room to room. We appreciated the washer and dryer, as well as the full kitchen. Once the bathroom is finished being updated, and is as charming as the bedrooms and living area, that last star will be achieved. If you love luxury hotels and always pack heels, this probably isn't your place. If you like to stay in places that make you feel like a local and are casual and comfortable, you will probably be happy here.
Experience true Hawaii and stay in this adorable plantation house! Mai is an awesome hostess and made sure we were taken cared of and the hale is adorable! The bathroom is like the old plantation days where the bathrooms are adjoining, one has the toilet and the other has the sink but both have showers. It was centrally located in honokaa and a short drive to waipio valley and a 45ish minute drive to Hilo.
Thank you so much for your review. I really appreciate it and please come back soon!
Wonderful downtown Honokaa Plantation Home with so much charm and all the necessities!
Very nice home with great Hawaiian Plantation Character! Clean and fresh!
Wonderful care taking! Easy to walk to store and to shops and some restaurants!
You are on the Main Strip of Historic Honokaa Town. Just a 1 min walk to restaurants, shops and pubs. Just 15 mins to Waipio Valley the second most visited spot on the island, with beautiful black sand beaches and waterfalls! Some of the best surfing, hiking, ATV rides and Horseback riding near the waterfalls! It is great to say here when touring the island because you are central it's only 45 mins to Hilo and 1 hr to Kona! Great for also going to Mauna Kea too!
