Not the private getaway we were expecting

  • 2 of 5

Our stay at Birch Hollow was not what we were expecting. First of all, the cottage is on the same lot as the owners', within feet of their house. Not the private mountain getaway that was advertised. We have more privacy at home. Also, the owners were having their driveway dug up, so we had construction noise the entire time. We ended up leaving early. We understand things happen, but it would have been nice if they offered us a discounted rate for the inconvenience on their part. The house itself was clean and well stocked, but tight. They allow dogs, but not on any furniture (couch, beds etc). Had we known this, we would have brought beds or crates for them to sleep in. Overall, this was not the vacation we were looking forward to. Hopefully this information is helpful for others.

Owner's Response: Kristen, We are sorry that your stay was not what you were expecting. We did have some necessary work done on the water line to the property. I did not get any indication when talking to you that you were upset. I apologize for not noticing that. We are pet friendly and have a gated area in the cottage for the pets when they are left alone. For all of our guests both with and without dogs we want the cottage and furnishings to stay as nice as possible. We do appreciate your feedback on your stay and will review all of our guest policies. Thanks, Bob & Joyce

Quaint and very cozy, but not comfortable for more than 3 people

  • 3 of 5

Really cute cottage but not suitable for more than 3 guests. One bedroom accommodated 2 comfortably but second bedroom had the most uncomfortable wobbly bed I've ever slept in! Living room only seated three.

The 4 C's - Cute! Convenient! Clean! Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Adorable place!! So cozy and very clean. "Welcome Goodies" from owners on table when we got there. Also a very convenient location to attractions in area. Directly across the street from great little Irish pub. Couldn't have been more perfect! We will definitely be back!

Great getaway close to all the wonders of the White Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a great stay, using the cozy house as a base for a week of hiking and adventures in the White Mountains. Bob and Joyce were very welcoming and had great recommendations for things to do. The kids loved the small playground and campfire.

We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé, my self, our German Shepherd, my sister and her boyfriend all stayed there this past weekend. We all LOVED it. The beds were very comfortable, rooms were decent size, kitchen was well equipped with the essentials. Plenty of towels and extra blankets. There was a cute fire pit and a lovely little deck, perfect place for morning coffee.

The ONLY cons: there is quite a bit of traffic outside of the house. We live close to the highway at home so this didn't really bother us, but it could irk others.

And the wifi was pretty sketchy. That didn't matter much because we didn't come up to stay on our phones/ipads but we did order the Mayweather & McGregor fight on our ipad and weren't able to connect, we had to use our data instead. Oh well.

There is a guest book on the table and we combed through that to find good places to see and eat. I suggest anyone who stays here looking for things to do does the same! The White Mountains is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL place and this little house puts you in such a convenient location to SOOO many attractions.

Joyce and Bob are so nice and helpful. Perfect hosts. We will absolutely come here again!
