Great cozy cabin!
Fun rustic feel with open community room that great for families and groups. Enjoyed the stay!
Great place to spend a few days in the Cascades
The property is perfect for a getaway to the Cascades. Don't expect luxuries, or TV, and BYO internet connection. But all the basics are accounted for, and it's great to be able to relax after a day hiking or exploring. Beds are very comfortable, and the setting is great.
Not Rustic but Neglected....
Rustic to us meant no WiFi no TV, no A/C and quirky, mixed furniture. It should not be used to describe 4 uncomfortable beds, a pile of debris in the side yard, a broken dining table, broken screen door, broken window screens and only one small fan, no grounded outlets, and a shower head that barely sprinkles. Had to buy mattress toppers, pillows. Really felt quite ripped off for the price.....
We rented your place because of the area and the proximity to hike and do outdoor activities. So your guests look forward to a comfortable bed to crawl into at night to get a goods night sleep. This did not happen. I don't think it's asking too much to invest in good beds and linens to make your guests feel comfortable. And a new coffee pot would be nice too.
When I read this review to my husband he said, "Beds are comfortable to me."
While it is true we could redo the windows for thousands, that would substantially change the price and we like it the way it is.
We have invested in new linens a couple of times, although some older ones go through rotation with so many beds. Clean in the important part.
We just found out about the showerhead, and plan to have it replaced.
As for the "debris" in the yard, as far as we can tell some guest kids were into fort building.
Again, we suggest that those needed higher quality and with more funds consider #481260.
We will continue to enjoy the cabin and hope the guests that come will too. Resupplied wood for stove last week.
Good rustic cabin
Had an enjoyable stay at house--great deal for the price.
Would say cabin sleeps 5 comfortably: 2 bedrooms each with full bed, 3rd bedroom with single bed. Then single bed on upstairs landing if you have a solo heavy sleeper!
Hosts were friendly and accommodating, house was in good condition. Has a fun collection of games and toys.
I appreciate your observations on the sleeping arrangements. In the third bedroom there are 2 single mattresses stacked and we always unstacked for the grandboys. Yes, for adults, 5 is a good number. For having a soft place to lay your head and body 9 is possible!
It was o.k.
I knew when I made the reservation that there would be no air conditioning. I understand that there are many places in this part of the country that don't have central air, because it is usually not needed. However there was a terrible heat wave underway during our stay. The high one of the days was 108. It didn't start cooling down until after midnight. The swimming pool closes at 6:00, which it my opinion is way too early especially when you need to cool off. Also I don't think it is unreasonable to install window units. There could be one downstairs and one for each of the two bedrooms upstairs. Window units are not expensive. Also though the place was clean, it was very outdated. I don't think any type of improvements or renovations other than carpet and vinyl have been done for decades. It was kind of gloomy. Even though we had already paid, we left a day early.
We are so sorry about the heat. Wish we could have pointed guests to local lakes and creeks for swimming after the pool closed. We also find those great times to shop or eat out with ac.
We have always enjoyed the large wall of windows, but I do know interior wood does not work for everyone. We do hope those considering our place read the description and study the photos.
Not your normal vacation cabin, too primitive
This cabin is way too rustic. Not worth the price. Children got slivers from the wood framing and the bed at the end of the upstairs hallway was a joke. Unless you want to go back in time a hundred years, don't take your family here.
We are sorry that the cabin did not meet this guest's expectations. We believe our description and photos are an accurate image of our place.
Actually, we like to go there to get unplugged and go back a bit in time, but appreciate the indoor plumbing, hot water, and appliances! Not to mention the pool in the summer and the fireplace in the winter. Our repurposed furniture, reupholstered, with renovated floors and clean bedding have worked well for us and others over time. This is the oldest structure in Tollgate, built in 1971.
Yep, rustic wood walls, not had a sliver problem before, although we replaced a small deck that had that possibility.
This place is generally kid-proof with toys and games to explore. The bed on the loft, the twin mattress, is still the fun choice for kids and adults have found it works. If you want a place that is more like a regular home with mountain views and newer stuff consider our friends house in Sisters #481260 if you have more funds.
