Nature lover's getaway on a tidal salt marsh, only 100 steps to Hills Beach!

Bedrooms 2
Space 794 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

The perfect spot to spend a week's vacation. Out the back door is a tidal salt marsh, part of Maine's Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. Literally 100 steps from the front door is gorgeous Hills Beach and the breakwater at the Saco River's entrance to the Atlantic. At low tide you can walk the sandbar to Basket Island and it's a quick 2.6 mile walk, run or drive to the 'big beach' Fortune's Rocks.

This cottage sleeps 4; each bedroom has a queen bed. We allow 1 dog with pre-approval so your pet can join in the fun. It's a bright and cheerful home and a comfortable place to sit and read, watch TV or enjoy the scenery when you're not at the beaches.

Bufflehead's Restaurant is just a few doors down. Only 5 miles travel gets you to Biddeford's local breweries, distilleries, restaurants and shopping . University of New England is under a mile away. There's plenty to explore in close proximity whether you're walking, running, biking, driving - or just stepping out the door on Hills Beach Road.

This is the life!

About Jen Legier

Greg and Jen live in New Hampshire (for now) but have visited Maine for summer vacations and special occasions for years. After some searching they were thrilled to find and buy this perfect property, and now they look forward to sharing it with you!

Jen Legier purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Jen Legier chose Biddeford Pool

Between a tidal salt marsh and a hidden gem of a beach this place is just magical. Inside it's tidy and bright. Outside you could walk the beaches all day long without ever tiring of the scenery. Low tide at Hills Beach is an experience. As the tide comes in the marsh becomes a superhighway for birds and you've got a front row seat from the living room - or the hammock. What more could you ask for?

What makes this cottage unique

Birdwatching, beaches, and more in a small neighborhood that truly feels like a private getaway.

Charming property

  • 5 of 5

We came up Maine for a much needed vacation. This property was a the perfect location. The cottage felt like home, it was in a quiet area, there was a marsh with many different varieties of birds to view and it was a 10 minute walk to the ocean with sandy beaches .

Perfect beach vacation!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfectly relaxing getaway! The cottage was so welcoming, and had every amenity we could have needed.

We all enjoyed the peacefulness of the yard overlooking the marsh... we could have sat and watched all of the birds forever... our dogs were in heaven!

Hills Beach was so beautiful and peaceful... we have found our new favorite spot! We absolutely want to come back for years to come.

Jen and Greg, thank you for sharing your beautiful piece of heaven on earth. We could not have asked for a more perfect spot to spend our week. We can hardly wait to come back!

Peaceful, serene & oh so pretty

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved our stay in the Hills Beach area. The home was very comfortable, with every amenity you could ask for. We loved the backyard area, which overlooked the salt marshes, and spent lots of time enjoying the views. The beach, a short walk across the street and over a small dune, was absolutely gorgeous. We walked the sandbars at low tide which can take you out to several islands. Close to Portland, Freeport, and Kennebunkport but far enough away to enjoy the quiet and serenity of the area. After vacationing in Bar Harbor, Yarmouth, and Freeport, I'd have to say that this spot tops 'em all...but don't tell anyone else because we like to keep these special spots a secret.

A little slice of heaven with everything we love.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the thoughtfully decorated cottage with everything we needed to make our stay a success.

Jen is quick to respond to all correspondence.

We would recommend this cottage to anyone that loves the ocean, birding, fishing, reading, the smell of salt air and comfortable accommodations. We hope to return next year.

Quiet and relaxing, gorgeous views, a birder's paradise in migration season, plus endless beachcombing anytime! The house was well-appointed and charmingly decorated. We plan to return within the year, if we can.
