About the property

Mountain Cabin luxury!

Get ready to be "wowed" by this meticulously refurbished and restored log cabin. With soaring rafters, high ceilings, vaulted spaces, and hard wood floors throughout, you will immediately feel at home at Papa Bear cabin. The craftsmanship is impeccable, and illustrated throughout the cabin; from the great room, with two story stone fireplace, and equipped kitchen, to the scenic views on the front porch. Each of these cozy spaces are where everyone will want to gather to enjoy their time together. But, if you need some "alone time", there is plenty of space inside and out to find your own serenity.

Kids love exploring the property, playing in the stream, and roaming the mountain property, (almost 50 acres). The expansive, covered deck is just off the great room/kitchen. Pull up a chair and take in the view, observe the night as it fills with stars, and watch the fire flies come out to play in your backyard. Or, meander down to the fire pit to toast some s'mores and share stories.

And of course the views!!

Papa Bear & Three Bear Holler are flagship properties for all of the Yonder luxury mountain rentals, and far and away one of the most requested!

It is also a destination for weddings, and we host quite a few. We can certainly get into much more detail if you are interested, but you could host an outdoor affair with up to 50 people. Mountains, quit, comfortable, clean

  • 5 of 5

Papa Bear provided everything my family needed for a wonderful first time visit to North Carolina. 30 to 40 minutes outside of Asheville was convenient for going into town to experience the charming city. Most of the hikes we within an hour to get to. I recommend the Max Patch hike. The property is enough that you do not have to leave. While doing dishes my wife loved watching the goats. My son and I walked the property and climbed a mountain in the back of the property. My daughter loved the bath tub in the bedroom. Flashlight tag is a must. There are so many hiding spots on the property. We read scary stories on the front porch. Weather conditions made for wet wood so it was difficult to keep a fire going. I would recommend more seasoned wood instead of the fresh cut wood on the property. Not a complaint, but the stove looks bigger in the pictures. However, we cooked breakfast and dinners on it and work out well. The decor is simple and not over done. Extremely, comfortable for its size. All the beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels, bedding, extra blankets. And so clean! The owners of this property have made something special. With VRBO and the owners we did not have one problem. The book that they have is detailed and covers everything you will need to enjoy your stay.

If you do come and stay there is one thing not in the book that you might be interested in. Close to the cabin is a road called the 209. If you take it north from the Ferguson market/gas station you will enjoy a wonderful ride that takes you into Asheville. The road travels through the mountains on well maintained twisty roads. The trip adds some time to your drive but well worth it.

We loved our stay. Thank you

Rustic vacation

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with a group of friends, 5 of us total. We had a great time. We met one of the owners and he was very nice and helpful. The cabin was clean and looked as presented in the pictures. It was fun seeing all of the animals wandering about, especially the goats!

A few things as a heads-up. There isn't a working oven, only a toaster oven. That detail doesn't jump out at you on the rental page, so just be aware. Also, there is not a ton of seating in the living room for 5 people. That was fine for us as we preferred to be outside on the front porch, but it would be tight in there with 5 adults trying to relax in the living room.

It was a sweet place for our girl's trip. We had a great stay and the group agreed we would return.

Owner's Response: Shannon, Thank you so much for posting this review with 5-Stars. We really appreciate the time it takes and look at every review as a way to get better. First and foremost, we're thrilled you all had a great time and enjoyed the "wild life." That entire property and location is pretty special. We will definitely have a close look at how the oven is described in our marketing communications. We will also talk with the owners about living room seating to see if that can be improved. Thanks again and please let us know when you'd like to have another mountain vacation....Yonder would love to help you plan.

We had a wonderful stay; it was a magical place.

  • 5 of 5

We were very surprised as we did not expect the cabin to be as nice as it was. It was a perfect place for the two of us to relax and enjoy the beauty of the mountains. The cabin is cozy and comfortable. There is a wood-burning fireplace, & lots of wood next to the shed but the logs were quite large and needed to be split & we had no way of doing that. The beds were very comfortable and there is a wonderful claw-foot tub in the bedroom--so nice. There is also a shower in the one bathroom on the main floor. The cabin is perfect for two! We would love to return for another visit. The cabin is about 20 minutes to Waynesville where you can do all of your shopping and there are also some very nice restaurants in the downtown area of Waynesville.

Had some issues with VRBO and booking this cabin, Yonder (the property group) heard my complaint and worked with me the best they could to make sure our stay would be satisfactory.

The property was fantastic, great views, very quiet. We had a great stay and would highly recommend this property.
