About Sheila & Stephen Best
We are both originally from Essex but built our own oak framed house here in Kent in 2005. We are enthusiastic DIYers and continue to work on projects in the garden - rebuilding our chicken housing last year being the latest project. Our chickens now enjoy a purpose built safe, spacious enclosure and run and provide us with golden eggs on a regular basis. A new vegetable plot is currently on the agenda for the coming months. We are both retired so are able to devote a lot of time and energy to making our home and garden a welcoming place for friends and family. We never tire of the beauty that surrounds us and take great pleasure in sharing it with our guests too.
Sheila & Stephen Best purchased this Cottage in 2017
Why Sheila & Stephen Best chose Chilham
One of our recent projects was to build this purpose built holiday let to enable us to share our beautiful surroundings with others. It offers the opportunity of a peaceful and relaxing time away to unwind in cosy surroundings with all the modern comforts and finishing touches to make it a memorable experience.
What makes this Cottage unique
Everyone has different needs and tastes but we believe the underfloor heating, woodstove, high end bathroom fittings, luxurious king size bed and kitchen equipment make the cottage a desirable and comfortable base. The woodland setting and countryside views complement the cottage and its proximity to local attractions and London make it a perfect retreat.

Sheila and Stephen and great hosts with an amazing property. They have thought of everything you might need. The decor is tasteful and beautiful. The location is perfect....close to Canterbury, but far enough away so that you feel secluded and have privacy. We cannot wait to return!
Wow! What a beautiful place . We stayed here over the Easter weekend and were so lucky with the beautiful weather. We enjoyed sitting on the patio watching the wildlife whilst enjoying a g & t !
The cottage is perfect...Sheila and Steve we really appreciated the lovely goodies that were left for us....especially the gorgeous fresh eggs.
Thanks for a very relaxing break ...just what was needed following recent health issues.
Hoping to visit again in the future
We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage and thank you for your lovely comments, they really are appreciated. Our aim is always to make our guests stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and we are so pleased that you were able to spend your time relaxing here. We would love to welcome you back sometime in the future.
Lovely cosy comfortable immaculate well equipped, serene setting, nature on door step.
A very enthusiastic greeting on arrival, a very nice welcoming hamper including very freshly laid eggs from Sheila’s and Steve’s hens. Lots of places worth visiting. Our favourite was Scotney Castle. The National Trust volunteers were so engaging when we showed our interest. We generally spent our days out and about, but retired to the cottage in the evenings where utilised the well equipped kitchen to prepare our meals. It was great to look out the bedroom window each morning to see squirrels and pheasants within a few metres of the cottage. We had a lovely week there. Thoroughly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed having Wayne & Margot stay at our holiday cottage. A very engaging couple who were delightful to host. Their stay with us coincided with some pretty awful weather, but they were not daunted and made the most of the nearby places to visit. They left the cottage very clean and tidy and we would not hesitate to recommend them to other hosts and would welcome them back at any time.
Loved everything about this place
We stayed five nights at Copse Corner in early October and we couldn't have chosen a better place. The setting is so beautiful - looking out over green fields, playful squirrels darting around, lots of birdlife. The owners, Sheila and Stephen, are very nice and welcoming but also respect your privacy, and the cottage is set far enough away from the main house to make it very private. They have clearly put in a lot of effort into making the cottage attractive and comfortable, with high quality furnishings and equipment. The bed is super comfortable, the bathroom really lovely, the kitchen and living room good for two people. The cottage was really clean and welcoming. It was also the perfect location for exploring a beautiful part of Kent: Chilham is just a couple of minutes' drive, Canterbury 15 mins, Dover and Whitstable each 30 mins, and the Eurostar station at Ashford just 20 mins away. Lots of fabulous walks - Chilham to Wye and the King's Wood were highlights. We really loved our stay here and would definitely book again.
Rohan & Marc were lovely, friendly guests who communicated well before and during their stay with us. We enjoyed the conversations we had with them whenever we happened to meet up and appreciated their positive comments and feedback. Very easy going couple who left the accommodation clean and tidy and we would not hesitate to welcome back.
Exceeded All Expectations
Copse Cottage is a beautiful honeymoon retreat tucked in the corner of a lovely Kentish property. Sheila and Stephen were perfect hosts who attended to every little classy detail. I had read other reviews about the bread, jam, and fresh eggs but wasn’t prepared for how well-supplied the cottage is. It is also gleaming spotless with a fabulous king bed. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you.
Wonderful guests who were a delight to host. They were friendly and easy to communicate with before and during their stay and left the accommodation spotlessly clean. We would love to welcome them back any time in the future.
Charming bijou cottage with a lovely rural aspect.
We loved our recent 7 night stay in lovely little Copse Corner Cottage. The cottage was set within a wonderful rural aspect overlooking trees and fields and it was a very convenient location for exploring all that Kent had to offer. The cottage itself was equipped with everything that we needed for a relaxing stay and it was beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting & eating outside on the patio. The shade from the trees provided a lovely cool spot to escape the English heatwave and it was a great spot to read, relax or watch the variety of birdlife, rabbits, squirrels and foxes, whose daily antics kept us amused.
The owners Sheila and Stephen were lovely. They were very warm, friendly and welcoming. They were quick to respond to any communication and provided us with good information and directions before we arrived. The welcome package of fresh eggs and basic provisions they provided were very much appreciated on our arrival, especially after our long day of travel.
We would highly recommend Copse Corner Cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing country break.
Lyn & Hugh were a super couple to stay in our cottage. They were very relaxed and easy to communicate with and we enjoyed their company on the occasions we met during their stay. They left the cottage immaculately and spotlessly clean. It was an absolute delight to host them and we would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
The beautiful historic village of Chilham is a 10-15 minute walk. A visit to this charming village is a must - a walk back in time is guaranteed!
