About Deb Dreves
We had this picturesque cabin built in 2001 so our kids could grow up loving the outdoors. We like this area so much, we've now bought another home nearby, and now we're sharing our original "getaway paradise" with anyone who loves the out-of-doors and Tennessee!
Deb Dreves purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Deb Dreves chose Altamont
The cabin is secluded, but has this marvelous view of the Elk River Valley. It's a special place to make memories for you and your family. We've had many family reunions here, and members of our families still talk about them, years later, because this is such a special and memorable venue.
What makes this Cabin unique
There are many homes and cabins in the area advertising a "bluff view," but many have views that are largely overgrown or obstructed. The Green Beam Cabin is located atop one of the taller bluffs in the area, so even mature trees are below you as you gaze out from our "perch in the sky"! Plus, many rental cabins in the area are within earshot of Interstate 24, which isn't conducive for total peace and tranquility. At the Green Beam Cabin, you never hear I-24, and only rarely hear any kind of motorized vehicle. It's such a rare treat these days to sit on a porch -- anywhere, much less with a view like ours -- and not hear any sounds of civilization. The Green Beam truly defines the phrase "get away from it all," yet is only a 20 minute drive from the interstate, and 30 minutes or less from restaurants, groceries, and all that "civilization" in nearby Monteagle. At the same time, you're less than 15 minutes from some of the most amazing hiking, waterfalls and other overlooks in Tennessee's largest state park, South Cumberland. We know we sound like a commercial, but these are all the reasons we chose to build this cabin in this special place, and after you spend some time here, we think you'll agree!

Peaceful property with the most amazing view
They aren't kidding when they say million dollar view - it really is stunning. When you wake up, you can just look out the window to the valley below. And it's all yours, there's no one else in sight. I could (and did) spend hours on the wrap-around porch, just enjoying the quiet.
The cabin is perfect, too. The design is thoughtful, the decorating is fun, and the owners have provided everything you could need. It is a very comfortable place to spend your days. I plan to return in the future, anytime I'm in the area for the weekend.
Amazing Cabin tucked away in the TN mountains
We had such a wonderful time at the Green Beam cabin. It is the perfect place to get away from it all, and enjoy time with friends and loved ones well off the beaten path.
The house is perfect for 6 people, and the views from the porch are incredible. Eating breakfast during sunrise and watching late-afternoon thunderstorms roll in were such a treat!
The property was excellent it was far enough from home yet it felt like home but much better VIEWS!!
Our experience at The Green Beam was perfect... Perfect location and more importantly the views were amazing! My only complaint is the lanterns not being there. We would love to come back and visit again!! Thanks again... y’all have a magical place!!
So sorry the lanterns weren't available during your stay. They were solar powered and were not charging well, so we had taken them off-property to see if we could get them fixed (no luck). We ended up purchasing a new set of battery-powered LED lanterns, which are now at the Green Beam and ready for you to enjoy on your next visit!
Fantastic Accommodations. Even Better View!!!
As a Sewanee Alum I am very familiar with this area and have spent much time over the years playing in and exploring these mountains. I have stayed in many different cabins over the years and I must say this is my favorite. The cabin has a rustic feel but with modern appliances and everything you fogot to bring is most likely already there. As for the view, it is hard to beat. sitting at the outdoor dining table you are basically sitting on the edge of the bluff and the views are spectacular. Everything we wanted to do was within 20-30 minutes but there was also plenty to do right there on the property. A short walk through the woods brings you to some truly indescribable views that will forever be ingrained in my memory. Deb and Rick were quick to respond when we had a few questions and they were helping in assisting us with anything we needed. I would highly recommend The Green Beam to anyone looking to escape to the mountains!
Super Cute Cabin with Ultimate Privacy
We loved staying at the Green Beam! There were 6 of us girls and we all had just the right amount of room. Plenty of items in the well stocked kitchen allowed us to make all our meals from scratch. We did not get to use the deck as much as we liked because of the rainy weather while we were there. But it was always a nice cool breeze. And the view and surrounds are absolutely gorgeous!
Beautiful cabin, gorgeous view, very responsive and helpful owners!
This is a unique, updated and beautiful cabin with an absolutely breathtaking view! We had a nice time despite unprecedented cold temps in late December 2017. The beds were all very comfortable and kitchen well equipped! The washer and dryer worked well and we were glad to have them. We loved the Keurig coffee maker and watching the sunrise and set on the porch each day. Our kids ages 3 & 6 had a great time but I would not bring a child any younger than 3 unless they were an immobile baby only bc of the uniquely designed, cool but steep inside stairs and nearby outdoor 80foot cliffs (we just watched our kids like a hawk outside and they were fine, but it still was a worry, however we knew this before going). While the cabin is private, and remote, we liked knowing their were cabins nearby, all along the dirt road! It was perfect for us that way. It might be good to know that the county is a "dry" county meaning you just need to drive to another county to buy beer or alcohol. We definitely had to learn this first hand haha! We found there was actually quite a lot to do within 45min-hour drive...mostly outdoor things. Amazing hikes! We truly enjoyed the Greeter Falls hike. The only other thing I can think of that would have made our stay better would have been in regards to the TV. We would have loved to receive sports, football games and a few more TV viewing options like an Amazon firestick or Netflix or dish on a slightly bigger screen, since we were inside a lot due to abnormally cold weather and to enjoy during our down times especially with the kids. The DVD collection could be expanded too ;) The owners were very responsive, helpful, and had great suggestions for things to do. I would love to return in the spring or fall to enjoy more hiking and swimming!
Breathtaking panoramic view of Tennessee's Elk River Valley, 1100 feet below, from the top of the Cumberland Plateau @ 2000 ft above sea level. Always 6-8 degrees cooler up here than in nearby cities! Large waterfall just 400 feet from wraparound porch; listen to the waterfall as you dine on the deck! Enjoy a peaceful morning walk along the bluff trail, across the footbridge to another great vista at Roth Point. 10 minutes to groceries, gas and other essentials; 15 minutes to the 30,000-acre South Cumberland State Park (waterfalls, vistas, hiking, backpacking, camping); 40 minutes to Sewanee and the University of the South. Great 'base camp' from which you can take easy day trips to some of the best Tennessee has to offer: 50 minutes to Chattanooga's Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls and other attractions; 60 minutes to Jack Daniel and George Dickel distillery tours or to Fall Creek Falls State Park (tallest waterfall in the eastern U.S.); 90 minutes to Huntsville (AL)'s U.S. Space and Rocket Center or Nashville's Music Row, or 2 hours to white water rafting on the Ocoee River.
