INTERNET and CELL PHONES: due to the mountainous region and our unique and heavily forested location, we haven't been able to access any satellite signals at this time. Cell phones in Yosemite have very spotty reception, if any at all, except for the Yosemite Valley area -- a cell signal booster we just installed may provide limited connectivity (mostly for Verizon) but consider yourself ** disconnected ** while you are staying at this property.

*** Guests must be able to climb several flights of stairs to access the 2 units in this property.

Tire chains may be required by the park during the winter months. Call us for more details.

*** TIOGA PASS (Hwy 120) closes early each winter due to snow - please check before planning your traveling route.

For more information about our accommodations, availability, rates, policies, guest comments, photo album, links and more, please visit our website.

*** Traveling to CARMEL/MONTEREY area? Let us recommend a new studio listing #399908 -- ideal for one couple, a small space w/ stylish decor, reasonable rates, pet friendly, and located in the heart of the Carmel Woods area, in Carmel.

*** OUR GUESTS: Our vacation home has been enjoyed by couples on their honeymoon, many anniversaries, several 'I'll be asking her hand' events, and many book lovers, romantic stargazers, painters and photographers.

*** Activities in the park are many: fishing, hiking, rock climbing, biking, birdwatching and much more. More active folks can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, river rafting, and horseback riding to name a few.

*** This is a place away from the crowded Yosemite Valley floor, a place for evening relaxation: sit back and enjoy the wind whispering through the cedars, pines and dogwoods; stargazers can marvel at the clear night skies with millions of stars while listening to the sounds of the forest from the large decks!

Yosemite offers world-famous vistas and a variety of activities for everyone, year around - A few examples of the many organized activities offered are: free art classes (watercolor, sketching & drawing, etc.), morning photography walks, a Valley Birdwalk, and special programs designed for families and children.

*** Enjoy Yosemite's beauty and the conveniences offered by a vacation house inside the park ... you won't leave disappointed!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to thank you so much for the incredible adventure we had and for the fantastic sunset house as our "base camp" in Yosemite.

We just had the most incredible time!

We will DEFINITELY be back! I will send you some pictures when I get time, we saw an incredible deer right outside the house one morning eating the grass!! You must add it to the site!

We also saw a coyote in Yosemite West. We loved the house and for a family it was great. Thanks so much and you'll hear from us again!

The Sunset house is perfect to visit Yosemite instead

of being in a hotel. The house is perfectly equipped

with evetything you could need, it is very clean and

comfortable. It is also in a very convenient location to

visit the valley and the south part of the park. The park

is awesome, we would love to go back again.

Lovely property

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Yosemite National Park. The house was in perfect order. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The neighborhood was nice, quiet and well maintained. We picked up groceries on the way into the park but the Village Store, while small, was also very well stocked. There is very limited connectivity so, if you want to stay continuously connected, this is not the place for you. We enjoyed being together instead of being connected to our phones/computers. If you have to, you can go to the Valley and use your phone with a full signal. The house is located very close to Yosemite Valley and the Glacier Point turnoff. Glacier Point was closed the first day that we were there and then reopened the next day. Unfortunately Mariposa Grove was closed for renovations. We were able to enjoy Yosemite Falls. I'm told that Yosemite Falls often dries up in the winter but there was an early winter snowstorm several days before we arrived then the temperature went up into the 60's. The snow melt had the falls running nicely. Very nice trip.

Perfect Location for Exploring Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect setup for us to explore Yosemite over the course of 4 days.

- Short 20-minute drive to the valley floor that takes you through the amazing Tunnel View lookout point (it has to be the closest to the valley you can get without staying in the actual park)

- Close to Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove, Bridalveil Falls and countless other trails inside the park

- Fully stocked kitchen and laundry facilities (I believe you can only use laundry if you're staying 3+ nights)

- Beautiful views of both the sunset and the evening stars

- Great setup for families. We have a 1 year-old and they had a Pack 'N Play there, which saved us from having to lug one around

- Extremely quiet neighborhood

- Very responsive and organized hosts

- No WiFi and very spotty cell reception (this was a PRO most of the time, except when trying to look up information on the park and navigate using GPS)

We flew into Sacramento and made the relatively short drive to Sunset House, stopping on the way to get groceries to make all of our meals at the house (there IS a store in the valley that has a good selection, but it's expensive). The house itself was quiet and secluded and allowed us to truly disconnect, and it was a great location for getting to every spot within the park we wanted to explore.

We stayed in early November and had no issues with cold weather or snow, but I can imagine the roads being treacherous later in winter.

All in all, I would highly recommend Sunset House - the location is perfect, the hosts are great and the house has everything you need to make the most of a Yosemite trip!

Excellent Escape

  • 5 of 5

Very, very comfortable accommodations, with close & easy access to the Valley. I'd been a little concerned about the restriction of "quiet hours," but I assure you, if you're looking to do Yosemite right, you'll be primed to hit the sack well before 10.

Yosemite Sunset House was amazing!! The pictures are awesome, but don’t do it justice. The house is nestled on the side of a hill and the views are breathtaking. We spent 3 nights there and wish it was longer. The house is clean, pretty, and well stocked with everything you could need while visiting the park. It was quiet and serene. Don’t let the steps deter you. They are wide and easy to manage. They have good motion lighting also if you need to go up and down them at night too. The kitchen was modern and very well stocked for anything you would need to cook a meal. The bathroom is roomy and the water is nice and hot for those sore muscles after hiking. I really don’t have one negative thing to say. Everything was perfect. The owner Georgeta was so nice to deal with and answered all our questions beforehand promptly. I would highly recommend this property and am planning to visit again!

Perfect location from which to explore

  • 5 of 5

The sunset house provided the perfect jumping off point for exploring Yosemite. Being inside the park is a real time saver. The actual unit came with everything we needed to make our stay feel like home. I would recommend it to anyone.
