About Sarah Murphy or Greg Barron

Rebuilt by my parents in 1984, the house on Music Street has been in my family for well over a century. Our children, who grew up in London, derived their earliest conception of America from our August visits to their grandparents' house. Mornings in the sunny Children's Room at the Library and at the Music Street Playground, afternoons in the sun and surf of the south shore, evenings in the backyard playing wiffleball with extended family while the radio broadcast of the Red Sox game played in the background. Afterward, a barbecue, much talk and laughter amongst the adults, children playing tag or hide-and-seek in the dusk and then dark, the final innings of the Sox game, bedtime stories, and ultimately a dog-tired sleep the depth of which is suggested by our family term for it as "lead pipe". This was the general course of every American Summer day. Reference should be made as well, however, to frequent walks to Alley's General Store, sometimes for necessities but more often for "grandpa treats", to shopping twice a week at the Farmer's Market, and, for four nights in August, attending the Dukes County Fair just down the street. Trips to Menemsha for drinks at sunset, to Vineyard Haven or Edgartown to shop, and to Oak Bluffs for ice cream and to ride the Flying Horses. These are the idyllic childhood memories that our children share and that set a standard subsequently impossible for the rest of America to meet.

What makes this house unique

Quansoo Beach is well known as among the most beautiful and uncrowded beaches on the Vineyard. From Quansoo, it's a 5-mile round-trip beach walk to the reddish-brown cliffs of Lucy Vincent's, the Chilmark town beach, a daily activity for us when we're on the Vineyard. It's better than yoga. Quansoo Beach also enjoys the twin benefits of the Atlantic Ocean surf to one side and the milder water of Tisbury Great Pond to the other. Tisbury Great Pond, the coves of which stretch like fingers deep into West Tisbury, is a popular venue for exercise and exploration among kayakers, paddle-boarders, and sunfish sailors. It is also popular with young children and crabbers.

The house is located a mile from the Yoga Barn, the best spot on the Vineyard to practice yoga. It is close to bike trails and a short drive to several hiking trails. In late August the Duke County Fair comes to the Agricultural Fairgrounds in West Tisbury. The Fairground is on Panhandle Road, walking distance from the house.

Absolutely amazing stay

Greg makes a huge effort to make sure we know how to have a great time on the vineyard. The house is in a perfect location near the action in west tis with access to a beautiful beach within driving distance. The house has been recently renovated but has so much character.

Wonderful home with a perfect Vineyard location and idyllic backyard

44 Music Street is a perfectly located, wonderful home, with a backyard view that rivals the peace and beauty of a pond or the ocean. This charmer in-town, with a pass to glorious Quansoo Beach, proved fantastic for our kids, grandkids, and us. For some 40 years we have always stayed in a very rural, remote, seaside locale in Chilmark. We actually almost preferred being in the town of West Tisbury, walking along Music Street to the various activities in early October.

Greg and Sarah Barron have outfitted and renovated this historic home, and they are ever so helpful and gracious. You will feel the history of the home, and you will also see how well-planned all is - from the shed with croquet and beach necessities, neatly arranged, to the large welcoming mudroom with huge closets, to the basement that makes rainy days fun, and to the peaceful studio. The house was truly perfect for us, and we as a couple want to return, even if the kids cannot come.

If you are new to the Vineyard, this would be a great introduction, and if you have always stayed in houses out at the end of dirt roads that lead to the ocean, you will love the change of this place. FOr our partial family gathering, the rooms were perfect: master on the first floor for my husband and me, and three good sized bedrooms on the second floor, for a couple and two children. Even the very spacious upstairs hall was welcoming. We mostly used the master bathroom, to bathe a baby, and barely used the two upstairs bathrooms, since we were enjoying the outdoor shower.

We sat outside on the brick patio, often in the mornings, and then again before dinner. Also, cooking worked well in the kitchen, but we also were centrally located and the drive to restaurants was short.

The open kitchen-dining-living-tv room worked well for a group with small children, and the fact that it opened on to the backyard with sliding doors was delightful. From Music Street, the house just cannot be appreciated. You also are near to mooing cows and horses grazing. A wonderful home!

Perfect house, perfect location, perfect vacation

My family has been coming to the Vineyard since my mother was a baby close to 80 years ago, and now I've been coming with my wife and our two kids for the past decade. I have stayed in literally dozens of houses up island over the years and 44 Music Street was absolutely one of my favorites. The house is beautifully maintained, has all the amenities you could ever need -- including central a/c, a basement playroom for the kids, a huge lawn that's perfect for running around or baseball catches, and all up-to-date appliances -- and is in a perfect location (walking distance from Alley's, an iconic general store that has been on the Vineyard forever). The owners are extremely warm and helpful, and nearby if you need them. We reserved for next summer before we even came home from this vacation. If you are lucky enough to find an available week, snap it up! You won't find better.

Knowing that they were enjoying the house, the backyard, the village, and the beach as our family once did was immensely gratifying. We look forward to seeing them again next summer. Lovely, spacious home in excellent location

We, along with our children and grandchildren (10 altogether), spent a wonderful week here and would recommend this rental without reservation. The house and property are lovely, in excellent condition, fully equipped, spacious, and extremely comfortable.

West Tisbury is an ideal location: quiet, yet close to beaches, hiking, and all Vineyard activities. The house is a short walk to Alley's General Store, the Farmers' Market, and the weekly Crafts Fair. West Tisbury is a pleasant and relaxing alternative to the busier Down-Island towns.

Greg is an attentive and responsive host who made us feel most welcome. He and his wife have done an excellent job renovating and furnishing this delightful home.

Our family has been coming to the Vineyard for thirty years and we've never enjoyed a home or location as thoroughly as we did the Music Street property. Schedules permitting, we all look forward to returning next year.

A lovely family retreat in West Tisbury

My family of 4 and my sister's family of 4 spent a week at this home in West Tisbury, which is a quiet little village ideally situated within easy drive of all corners of the island. We all enjoyed the big backyard to relax by, play croquet in, and to watch the flock of wild turkeys congregate. My nephew particular enjoyed the studio as his own private retreat. We enjoyed meals on the grill as well as in the well appointed kitchen and all in all the home felt as if it were our own. The beaches we had access to were perfect it was the best introduction to the island for my sister and her family, who had never been to Martha's Vineyard. While we didn't have the chance to meet Greg in person, he still managed to be an incredibly attentive host, even all the way from overseas! He answered all of our emails very quickly and always gave us very clear instructions for everything regarding the house and area. This was a wonderful vacation for us made only better by staying in this house. Highly recommend!

We arrived on the island just after they departed. We will be on the Vineyard all of next summer, however, and hope to meet them then.

Beautiful home, gracious host

My family and I stayed in this gorgeous West Tisbury rental during the week that my sister (and, now, brother-in-law) were married. They tied the knot at the Agricultural Hall right down the road, so we were beyond thrilled to find this property! After our stay we were even happier. I cannot give enough positive feedback about our experience. Greg and Sarah were gracious and communicative renters, who thought of everything. They went above and beyond to make our stay special and comfortable. They even left a bottle of champagne for our family to celebrate the wedding.

The house itself is spacious and inviting. There is plenty of room to spread out — an outdoor private studio space (with pullout bed and bathroom), multiple bedrooms, and three full baths make it so that even a large family does not feel crowded. The open floor plan between the living room and kitchen was perfect for gathering together and talking. We grilled outdoors on a warm summer night and enjoyed the yard and occasional turkeys that dropped by. The area itself is lovely, as well. The location is just remote enough so that you have privacy and can enjoy the feeling of "getting away" from town, but it is still walkable to the general store and an incredible breakfast and lunch spot (with the best iced coffee I have ever had). Only a short drive to the ferry and shopping/dining if you want to get into town. We had a fantastic stay — highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Tess and her family were lovely guests whose happiness on the occasion of Libby’s wedding was infectious. I met several of the family at the house, showed them around, and got them oriented. Until then, I hadn't realized that we had the honor of hosting the beautiful bride! Later that day I returned to pick up my car, which was parked off a dirt road behind the shed. I was trying do this discretely, so as not to disturb anyone. But several members of the family were in the back yard and we ended up having a lively conversation that felt as if it could have gone on for hours. These were very nice people and lots of fun. We thank them for being our guests and for their kind review. Needless to say, we’d love to see them again. Greg
