The house is located just 15 minutes from the center of Florence (easily reachable by bus number 10 from the main square of the village). Settignano, located on the hill where they lived on Michelangelo and Gabriele D'Annunzio, is a hilltop village 10 minutes from the highway exit of Florence Sud.
Settignano was a safe holiday resort during the summer for Florentine guelphs. Giovanni Boccaccio and Niccolò Tommaseo appreciated its freshness, its vineyards and its fields of olive trees, the typical landscape of Italian gardens. In 1898 Gabriele d'Annunzio purchased the 14th century Villa of Capponcina in Settignano, to be closer to his lover Eleonora Duse, at Villa Porziuncola. In Settignano are Villa Gamberaia, a 14th-century villa famous for its eighteenth-century gardens on the terrace, and the most secluded Villa I Tatti, owned by Bernard Berenson, which has become a center of art history studies run by the University Harvard.
