Perfect size for 2 adults. House is only 2 years old so still feels like new. Very clean and tidy. Soft and comfortable king size bed. Wide covered lanai with near 180 degree unobstructed views of South Kona coast and ocean (can see Kealakekua Bay, Kailua-Kona town, and even Maui on a clear day). Kitchen has all the cutlery, utensils, dishes, glassware, pots, pans you'll need. A small assortment of spices and condiments in the cupboard. Free coffee sample for your first couple of days. Modern appliances. Washer & dryer in bathroom so you only need to pack a few sets of clothes. Wifi and cable TV.
1,300ft elevation so cool at night (upper 60's) for sleeping. No need for AC. Vortex fan in bedroom is all you need (on low it drowns out the nightlife sounds of roosters and Coqui frogs). Sits on a coffee farm with fruits trees (Papaya and Avocado that you can pick). Lots of wildlife to watch (many birds, chickens, turkey, mongoose and pigs). Zero mosquitos even at dusk and dawn on the lanai. Mamalahoa Hwy 11 is about 500ft down the hill and visible in a few places. There is some road noise while on the lanai; really not an issue except for the infrequent large truck going by. Choice Mart in Captain Cook is about 20-25 minutes away and was our go-to grocery store.
Things to do:
Swimming.- Ho'okena Beach
Snorkelling - Two Step (literally the easiest water entry ever) lots of fish and clear water - bring your NPS pass and park car in Pu'uhonua (place of refuge).
To die for Malasadas - Punalu'u Bake Shop
Turtles on Beach - Punalu'u Black Sand Beach
Sunday Farmer's Market - Pure Kona Green Markets in Captain Cook (great Thai food at Lotus Cafe Fresh Express Food Truck)
Volcano National Park is only 1:30 away. Worth a day trip.
KAPA Radio 99.1 for island sounds
Very nice house and the view is amazing
House and property are amazing I would definitely stay here again
Our favorite place to stay in Hawaii!
This house is awesome--super chill and quiet, nicely decorated, and a killer view. Basically, we loved everything about this house and cannot wait to come back and hopefully have a bit better luck with the weather next time!
This was our first experience using VRBO and it worked out perfectly. After our rental in Kapoho by the tide pools was cancelled due to the volcano, we found this perfect house. Just enough to be out of the way of the Kona traffic but not too far from the the sights in the south, west or north side of the island. Beautiful new house with new appliances, furniture and a very comfortable King bed. We enjoyed mornings cooking breakfast and sitting on the wrap around deck. Will definitely stay here again!
Awesome Vacation Lodging
We loved this place. Nice to be removed from the hustle and bustle of Kona. Close enough to Kona or Captain Cook for groceries and restaurants. The house has a lanai with perfect ocean viewing, set on a hill, on a small coffee plantation. Hard to compare to other places, it's so unique. We really appreciated the house was set far away from the road and any neighbors. The house is well appointed (new, clean, available) with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We were here during the volcano eruption and had limited access to Volcano National Park. The beaches were great- some close and some a drive. We definitely plan to come back to the Big Island and when we do we'd definitely want to stay here!
If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful stay then look no farther.
This property is far enough away from the city to be peaceful and close enough to drive to Kailua at anytime. The best beaches on the island for snorkeling and diving are just minutes away. The host Gill is amazingly professional and hospitable. The home has everything you need to prepare a gourmet meal. You will be greeted daily by an Abundants of wildlife, including but not limited wild turkey, Pheasant, wild boar and So many other tropical birds I couldn’t begin to list. I will definitely be back again in the future!
Puuhonua o Honaunau (City of Refuge) National Park and Painted Church are about 20 minutes to the north. Kailua-Kona offers shopping, dining, and activities. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is an hour-and-a-half drive going south. Coffee farm tour available upon request.
