Great vacation - very welcoming and comfortable
This house meant our expectations in every way. As mentioned in other reviews it was very clean and fully supplied with everything you would need. My favorite time of day was sitting out on the deck at 6:00 a.m., enjoying the ocean view, drinking a wonderful cup of coffee supplied by Gill and watching and listening to the pheasants, turkeys, chickens and all the other birds on the property. It was also a treat to watch the momma, daddy and baby pigs run across the property. Gill also supplied us with a great BBQ so we could BBQ our evening meals. Thank you Gill for providing us with such a welcoming "home away from home".
better than the photos, emaculate
It's all been said by other guests
This is a wonderful place to stay for couples who want privacy and to be away from the mega-resorts. It's south of Kailua-Kona in a rather rural area, close to a variety of options for interesting hikes, which is what we enjoy doing. It looks like the house was designed by an architect and has wonderful attention to the use of space and detail. The house is decorated in a Japanese aesthetic which is calm and peaceful, but with all the necessary appliances and furnishings for an extremely comfortable stay. Gill was super-responsive and flexible, and we could not have enjoyed our visit more.
We spent a relaxing week in a beautiful home
We spent a relaxing week in a beautiful home that was clean, spacious, with attention to detail and everything we needed to enjoy a visit to Hawaii.
Amazing View - Beautiful Place!
The location was just as advertised and the view is even more grand than any of the photos show! The property is very well kept and we enjoyed ourselves immensely for the two weeks we stayed!
For those who like it a bit cooler, this location - at about 1,000 feet above sea level - will be your spot! For sun bathers, the sun comes up at the front of the home (the driveway side) and then hits the main lanai (facing the ocean) around 4pm, but rest assured that you can follow it around the house for most the day. The sunsets were amazing, and we were treated to quite the lightening show our first night in!
The drive is roughly 45-60 minutes to get into Kona, so you get the "away" feeling while still having the option to hit busier tourist locations without much time in the car. You will be a good 75-90 minutes from the airport. We found the KTA Superstore at the Keauhou Shopping Center (Alii Drive) to be the best stocked and most convenient grocery (they sell adzuki beans in the can!!) and the lower road was much less congested than taking the main highway back to the rental.
There is another rental home next to this property, but the owners did a wonderful job at positioning the houses and providing landscaping so that privacy is had by both (far enough away to not really hear anything, and the other home is set back so that neither has direct sight of the main lanais). We really didn't have a single complaint during our entire stay!
Incredible peaceful oasis
Coming from our busy Seattle home, staying in this wonderful country home was a remarkable, restful and restorative experience. It is one of the few places where the pictures don't do the place justice. There's complete privacy, a beautifully finished, spacious interior and a view of the country and ocean that instantly puts you at ease. The kitchen made us resolve to remodel our own. The appliances are top notch, the bed amazingly comfortable, and everything needed to truly relax is provided.
Spending time on the lanai, in the company of wild turkeys, pigs, chickens, and pheasants made a memory sure to reduce stress in the coming months. While there's a bit of a drive to get to anything interesting, that same drive assures you that coming back to this home will remain peaceful, calm, and restorative.
Puuhonua o Honaunau (City of Refuge) National Park and Painted Church are about 20 minutes to the north. Kailua-Kona offers shopping, dining, and activities. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is an hour-and-a-half drive going south. Coffee farm tour available upon request.
