Delightful, quiet, renewing place to be.
Bruce and Wendy are great people. Fun to talk to and helpful if anything needs to be seen to. There are also many acres of open pastures where lots of cows and horses graze close by. The night sky (we were lucky to have clear skies) is amazing. The constellations are vivid and the Milky Way spreads across the sky like a broad silver river. Speaking of rivers, the clean, wide, chatty New River is only about 10 minutes away--with about 50 miles of connected trail to walk or bicycle. Lots of interesting places to see and visit, too, in all directions--though it usually takes awhile to get there.
It was gorgeous!! The property was well kept.
The view of the colorful trees in the surrounding mountains was absoloutly breath taking from Trottersrest. The pasture that our horses stayed in had access to fresh water and plenty of grass for grazing. There are plenty of horseback riding trails from the property. A fabulous fire pit for making a relaxful evening under a moonlit night while roasting marshmellows. The owners, Bruce and Wendy are both wonderful people not enough words to express their great hospitality. This will definitely be a place that we will stay again.
Thanks for the review! It was wonderful having all of you wonderful folks here for a visit! More like having long lost friends than "guests"! We look forward to seeing you again.
Bruce & Wendy are great hosts and we really liked the house and the property. Peace and quiet pervade.
Far off the beaten path. Loved the quiet, all the animals and the proximity to the New River Trail. very pleasant country house.
We had a wonderful visit with family and friends in this quaint farm house.
My husband so enjoyed the wood burning stove. It was peaceful and quiet, so nice to take a break from the computers and cell phones. Hope to visit again in the Spring.
The McFarlands were the perfect guests! They left the property in perfect condition. They were all very friendly and we look forward to seeing them again!
The house is so charming. The pictures do not do it justice. It is an farmhouse in every sense of the word. In a quiet setting with chickens and horses. The owners are onsite in case of any issues. The house is decorated beautifully with built in cabinets, hardwood floors, beautiful period peices of furinture and lighting. The daybed was our favorite place to nap and look at the stars in the "sunroom".
The view is of the "mountain" across the road and fields of green. There is an apple tree next to the house. Be prepared to wake up to typical Virginia misty mornings. There is a horse trail across the street and horse camps down the street. The drive there is gorgeous with views of the New River which is a great place to kayak and tube. Fries is about 5 miles away and a quaint little "town " named Cripple Creek. The store is a must stop, it was closed when we were there but we will be back when it is open.
The owners are onsite and very nice and inobtrusive as it is your vacation. We are definately looking forward to booking the house again. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all this is it.
If you are on a motorcycle there is some beautiful riding to be had. There is the typical mountain curves and great flat areas. The driveway is gravel but easily navigated. I would definetely say it was motorcycle friendly.
