About Glenn and Lawson Smith

We both grew up in nearby Tallahassee and have enjoyed the Carrabelle area since the early 1970s. Having been on fishing charters out of Carrabelle years ago when in our teens, we have always loved the idea of owning a riverfront place as boaters in our adulthood.

Lawson is a longtime educator, having spent years as a teacher, principal, and now serving in administration at a small Christian school in Tallahassee.

Glenn enjoyed a 25 year career in airlines and at a travel agency also in Tallahassee. After retiring from the travel industry, he has been a property manager for beach homes between Alligator Point and Watercolor, Florida . Lawson and Glenn have 5 grown children, in their 20s, who have also enjoyed growing up going to Carrabelle and nearby areas such as St. George Island and Apalachicola.

While already owning a vacation rental on both St. George Island and beautiful Lake Talquin, located 35 minutes north of Carrabelle, we jumped at the opportunity of purchasing a riverfront condo when it became available in 2016. This condo's location is very unique and breathtaking!

We'd love for you to enjoy the salt life of Nautical Wheeler and the Pirates Landing neighborhood. Thank You for being our guest on the coast!

Why Glenn and Lawson Smith chose Carrabelle

We chose this property because if we're going to stay in the area, there is nothing like being on the riverfront and having the phenomenal views from the balconies! Boating access and boat parking is an added bonus. The luxury, style, architecture, and location are second to none!

What makes this condo unique

You too can have it all by staying at Nautical Wheeler. When you combine the amenities, such as, views, location, pool, jacuzzi, boat ramp & parking, and more, there is no doubt that Nautical Wheeler is the perfect coastal retreat!

Beautiful Carrabelle Beach is located a mile away. When coming from Nautical Wheeler, turn south on Hwy 98 where the Carrabelle Boat Storage building is, then turn left at Emsy's Cafe which is the first curve of the road. NOTE: There is no fish sink and fish cleaning table due to the scraps attracting raccoons, mice, bears, etc... Bring your own fish cleaning set up. There is a hose and fresh water under the house in the car port. Also, there is not a charcoal grill nor a gas grill due to fire codes and safety reasons. If you bring your own portable grill, please set up away from the wood condo complex and on the grassy area between the condo and the Carrabelle River. Bring your own metal bucket and shovel for proper disposal of used charcoal after they have cooled off in your grill.

Clean and Bright

  • 5 of 5

I made a last-minute reservation to stay in Carrabelle near family over the New Year's weekend. Glenn and Lawson were quick to respond and very accommodating. Renting was super easy thanks to VRBO and their app. The condo was clean and bright and had everything we needed (including Netflix!) for our short weekend stay. Thank you Glenn and Lawson!

A writer's vacation

What I can say? Imagine a small town with very few people that you will see during The Fall season since this is the time I want. First off and most important I lost a lot of WiFi so try to print out a map prior to coming here went to get into your home that you have rented there is WiFi there. You will see a fishing boat store on the left side after you cross the bridge and right as soon as you see it turn left and then from there you will see signs of the condominium. Once your parked in your own space, going up the stairs, the first thing you notice are the sounds of water. You have a Florida room that I myself kept my fishing equipment in. A great place to have a cup of coffee to look outside. Before the next to the stairs, there's a washer & dryer there. What is so nice, there's detergent, fabric softener there for my usage even though I brought my own. The brands they use are up to par: tide, bounty, Etc. A broom & dustpan also in which you will need to use. The house is pretty much clean but I think maybe the housekeeper likes to sweep up the sand underneath the rug lol. Go up the stairs, is a nice living room, dining area, kitchen. I love to cook for myself and for my family. This kitchen was beautiful in my eyes. The owners leave some coffee, tea, a lot of seasonings, and even olive oil. The way the house is set up is to make it as easy as possible for you and not to stress so much. The nearest groceries is Family Dollar which is a little high priced but it is there if you need so. Prior to getting to your vacation home, stop by at the last Walmart if you want to save some money on vegetables, meat, or snacks. Nearby is a family-owned Fish seafood store. It is literally across the street near by Family Dollar. Take a look in there. The cost of the see-through there is reasonable and fresh. Once it's gone and is gone for the day so be there early in the morning. There is one small bar restaurant 5 steps away. The staff is very friendly. Order the seafood platter. Well worth the cost. The next set of steps, there's A full bathroom on the way. Last, as you're go up the stairs, a reading room to Lounge. Bedroom is cute, cozy, & relaxing. I brought my own pillow & sheet. Did not use any of my sheets. The bed was nice comfortable, & quality. I was able to watch the movies every nightly & football. This is a perfect place for 2. Fish over the bridge. The beautiful sandy beach is nearby down the road. A great place for quiet time & to relax!!!

Just Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

We really liked this condo and the area. Lots of nice features to the house. The deck space is a great feature. If there had been a place on that deck to take a nap, I would have! The kitchen is fully equipped; we were able to cook with ease. Living room is cozy and nicely furnished. The bedroom was very nice as well. High ceilings and comfortable bed. The bathrooms were very small and there wasn't room to maneuver easily but there is a bench right outside the upstairs bath with a mirror over it to help with that situation. The view of the river is nice and there was lots of boat traffic. Carrabelle itself is neat. The beach is rugged and in my opinion, not great for swimming but it's so worth the drive to go to St. George Island. It's a beautiful beach and there is easy access. We really enjoyed our time here!

Cute retreat in small fishing village!

  • 4 of 5

Our family enjoyed our stay immensely. It was quiet and relaxing and the condo itself was right by the pool and dock with views of the marina. The restaurant next door was delicious and convenient. Would definitely come back.

Carrabelle Beach

Carrabelle is a sleepy fishing village centrally located within Florida's "Forgotten Coast". This deep water river port is the last stop along the

Gulf IntraCoastal Waterway before boats take the open water journey to where the IntraCoastal Waterway continues south at Tarpon Springs, (near Tampa). Therefore, enjoy watching the boats and yachts cruise past your balcony as they fuel up prior or upon arriving from their open sea journey.

Carrabelle is near 3 lighthouses, hiking trails within state and national forests, St. James Golf and Country Club, (open to non-members), shopping in Carrabelle and Apalachicola, along with the top rated beach in the U.S.A., St. George Island.

There are multiple sights to see nearby, such as the World War II museum in Carrabelle, St. Marks Wildlife Refuge, and Wakulla Springs which is one of the world's largest and deepest fresh water springs.
