Spectacular views in this charming rustic villa!
What a special find! This place lets you experience the charming, rustic beauty of a Tuscan farmhouse, while still being within the walls of Cortona. It is basically at the top of the hill town of Cortona, so yes it is a steep walk from downtown – but it is so, so worth it! The grounds are beautiful, even in the fall – you walk to the house along a path lined with olive trees and hedges of rosemary and lavender, and the gardens that wind around the back have roses, grape vines on arbors, and even tomatoes that Luca told us to help ourselves to! It was delightful to be able to cook breakfast with tomatoes and rosemary that we picked that morning right outside the house. The views are absolutely spectacular, and there are multiple locations to enjoy them – whether looking out the windows in the kitchen, or enjoying some wine on the covered patio, or in the seating areas in the garden. The house is rustic but very clean and comfortable, and Luca was a gracious and helpful host. We would highly recommend this place and would love to go back!
Absolutely a dream come true!
Words cannot explain how amazing this house is! The views, the extras on the property such as the pool, chickens, goldfish, and dog, all left me speechless.
We loved to have you at our house. You have been the perfect guests!! See you next year??
Fantastic apartment, great view, very welcoming owners
Great apartment, just as advertised. The owners were very accommodating, and the town was wonderful. The whole experience was perfect
Do Not Believe the Pictures
My family and I arrived on a Friday afternoon, spent approximately 15 minutes looking at the property and all 8 of us unanimously decided the house did not meet minimum standards and refused to stay there. We went back to Cortona and looked for a hotel instead. We are currently arguing via email with the owner now to secure a refund but he is not cooperating. The bedrooms are spread over three buildings on the property, all the rooms are not in one building. The buildings are small, damp and dank with an unpleasant musty odor. One of the bedrooms is little better than a toolshed with ants crawling in some areas. The furniture is primarily old and dilapidated, some of the furniture was wet and moldy and the mattresses and pillows were dirty with a plethora of stains of indeterminate origin. The natural pool is not a pool at all by any commonly understood definition. It is more like a goldfish pond and certainly not suitable for use by humans. If you are looking for a nice base to explore Cortona and Tuscany for a few days, this is not it. I gave it one star only because the website will not let me submit a review with zero stars.
Amazing villa with spectacular views that encompasses Tuscan Charm.
If you are looking for a picturesque villa to stay during your Tuscan Holiday, you have found it!
My husband and I along with another couple stayed here for 3 nights and could not have been happier- wish we would have had more time! The views are spectacular to start.
The main villa comfortably sleeps 6 and there are outer buildings equipped with their own bathrooms, sleeping quarters and kitchenettes to accommodate more.
The garden is out of a dream with a natural pool and views to match that of the balcony. There are also chickens that Luca (the owner)offered for us to pick eggs from in the mornings if we liked!
Luca, the owner, also lives on a separate area of the property, and he also offers to cook for an added fee with a reservation of the time. This meal was the best we had during our whole trip accompanied with Tuscan wines ( take advantage of this culinary experience!) Luca was a generous host.
The walk into center of town is also quick, and there is an easy walk to the top of the hill where there are great hiking trails, the fort and a beautiful chapel.
We will be returning to this amazing property!
Not at all as described in listing very disappoine
The property was right on the top of Cortona and was in a stunning location and luckily the view from the terrace was beautiful as it helped us forget the state of the apartment. you need to be quite fit to be able to walk up and down the hill to the apartment. it was listed as a villa however was an apartment in the 3rd floor of the owners property. The listing stated that there was an oven, microwave, washing machine, grill, that it had a TV, DVD player and Satellite TV. NONE of there were present in the apartment. It wasn't large, The furniture was ripped and not at all comfortable. All the crockery we used had to be washed before using them as they were visibly dirty. the 3rd bedroom had stairs so steep to go up to (which is in the pictures), that it was not safe to put children up there as they would have to go down them in the night to use the bathroom. It states the property sleeps 12. This included 2 annexes in the garden. one of our party dropped out before we came and we were told the property is let at a whole including the annexes and that you don't book the property based on the amount of people that are in the party, therefore we were going to invite some other people to stay, lucky we didn't as one of the annexes was completely uninhabitable and was used as shed, the other had mould and moss growing in the sitting area, one of the chairs was sodden and mouldy and it was all very dirty. We managed to find the microwave, washing machine and iron in another shed however it was so cluttered with junk you couldn't even get in to use these things. We emailed to ask about the oven, grill microwave etc and the owner delivered a grill pan, a BBQ and informed us the oven would be installed a few days later, it never came and we had no communication as to why. We were also told the TV was not there as the antenna had been blown down by a "big wind" however we could see the antenna and satellite dish fully intact?! The swimming pool was green and there is no way anyone could swim in it, perhaps this was because it was out of season for swimming however it does not state on the listing that the pool is closed at any time of year. It wasn’t as described in the listing and we were very disappointed
Villa Nigra is located in the heart of Cortona just below the Fortress of Girifalco, the view is spectacular, overlooking the Val di Chiana, ranging from Lake Trasimeno, Cetona, Amiata up to Civitella della Chiana, gets the sun from dawn at sunset. E 'was built on the foundations of one of the oldest monasteries of Cortona, on the walls of the house there are still the old nails on which realizzavano candles, hence the name of the street (vegetable wax)
