About Andrew Bard

Born and raised in central Florida but my family is originally from Cape Girardeau. I moved here shortly after graduating high school in 1998 and have been here all my life since.

Andrew Bard purchased this house in 2016

Why Andrew Bard chose Cape Girardeau

The home is a fortress. Built by a Union General right after the Civil War (1870) on the site of the original Fort A in Cape Girardeau... the outside walls at 4-layers of brick thick and the home is crazy solid. You could not begin to build a home like this again. It stands as a testament to "they don't make them like this any more" and I love that.

What makes this house unique

I love the history of the home. I love the view as well. It's one of the highest points in the city.

More like a room in a boarding house

  • 3 of 5

Beautiful location close to everything you want to do. I did stay on short notice and got very good service from the owner even though is was away... My biggest concern was there was no lock, or even knob on the bedroom door... I was traveling alone, and there were two other men staying in the house... I'm not saying I felt unsafe, only that this situation is sub standard, and seems easily remedied...

Owner's Response: I completely agree with the lock situation. The locks are being rebuilt by a company in Portland (there's only two locations in the US that rebuild 150+ year old locks). I was told they will ship back today actually so if you're in the area again, please stop by. The house is in a constant state of remodel. The locks upstairs are next on "the list".

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

Andrew was a congenial and informative host. His house was in walking distance of most of the things we wanted to do in downtown Cape Girardeau. The house was clean and as advertised and he had the makings for breakfast, which we were not expecting.

The room we stayed in was as advertised, clean with the bathroom next door. If you have privacy concerns, the bedroom door was not lockable, but that was not a requirement for us.

I would stay with Andrew again if I needed a place near downtown Cape.

Accommodating owner, he allows you to use the house as your own.

Comfortable and quiet.

Nice place to crash when away from home but still have the conveniences of a home.

We are located at the highest point of land in the country centrally located between the Casino, university, river campus and downtown. This is truly the best spot in Cape Girardeau.
