Casa Encanto is situated in the mountain town of Monchique, Portugal. it is in a quiet pedestrian street and has been caringly renovated to keep its traditional layout and features. Myself and my husband are ceramic artists and have used many of our pieces to add a quirky touch to the home, it is actually only 40 square meters in space but is spread between 2 floors. The floors and stairways have original oak floorboards, ceilings are wooden too. The main bedroom on the first floor is grand with a glass chandeleer adjoining to a living space..The second floor kitchen has a typical chimney space, there is a second small bedroom on the second floor for a 3rd guest or a quiet place to watch over the town and forest view.Bathroom is on the second floor with seperate water closet.

At home in the centre of town
We arrived on New Years day for a week of cycling and walking. The property is bang in the centre of town on the main pedestrianised shopping street. Despite this it was quiet but also close to the cafes, restaurants and shops. The property is comfortable, cosy and very homely. Ideal for two but good for three if you all get on well.
Monchique is a pretty town set high in the wooded hills. Our bikes were safely stored in the owners workshop. There are a fair number of scenic rides from town on good quality quiet roads but you will need to sort out detailed maps in advance. With cafes in every village and most hamlets having a break wasn't a problem. We walked up the local big hill, Foia, one day and around the coast another. google is a good place to find routes and maps.
The owners were friendly and very welcoming and sorted out a couple of minor issues very quickly.
